Re-watching “Star Trek V” and this film seems to be the first of the Star Trek movies where the villain has no motivation for his actions. The script seems to completely omit any exposition that explains that Sybok had been driven to his madness by repeated telepathic contacts since childhood from the God imposter. The shoehorned jokes are so cringe worthy. The effects are just horrible and cheap looking. Was that the same effects team that worked on “Superman IV”? 😉

I remember watching V as a child and being soooo bored. Even the scene at the end where they were having a shoot-out with guys on horses was boring.

I read this without the context of the quote above it and thought you were talking about the 80s TV series V… I was thinking “shoot-out with guys on horses”? WTF?

Convincing Casual Fans to Begin with "Star Wars"

Update - Got an encouraging reply the next day from my friend: “OK, I trust the master. You know that we already know who Luke’s father is, that part is already spoilt! But we will watch them your way.” Then today I got a message from his wife: “Where’s our proper Star Wars movies??” (I posted them yesterday). Mission successful!

Is version SW 2.7 along with the latest ESB and ROTJ releases on myspleen? I’m looking to update to the latest releases but I think my original myspleen account got wiped; would anyone be willing to help me out with an invite? Thank you so much!

This is at least the second time you’ve asked for another invite. If you can’t log in you are supposed to contact spleen admin on their forum and ask to them to reactivate your original account, not keep creating new ones.

Possibly the new software invalidated older Google crawls? I was looking for an old post of mine with movie reviews that I had no trouble finding before because I remembered some of the exact phrasing. For example: “great white sharks” - nothing.

JEDIT: It seems with most search terms you only get a handful of results from this site. Can anyone help me find the thread where people help you find the name of a movie or TV series based on vague half-remembered information?  : P

Heh, just found “great white sharks” by searching “great white shark” instead - and found my post under your profile Frink, because you quoted it! Bizarre.

Aaaand now I just found the same result with the “s” on the end! Google is watching me!!

The seven Star Wars films are airing in about 2 weeks here on their own dedicated FOXTEL channel. My friends who think they know better intend to watch them with their kids in episode order rather than release order. Here is the message I sent to try and convince them, without going into too much depth:

If you start with the prequels instead of the original “Star Wars” you are doing it wrong. Take it from a lifelong Star Wars nerd  : ) The biggest twist in the movies - that Darth Vader is Luke’s Father - is completely spoiled if you watch the prequels first, as are many other aspects of the original films. The prequels are just backstory. Star Wars is about Luke Skywalker, not about how his Dad became evil. Trust me  ; )

I will also make sure they have theatrical versions of the original trilogy, but I’m not sure how successful I will be. Share your experiences with trying to correct your ignorant friends and family.
