As some of you may have read in his thread, if all goes well funding wise, poita will be scanning the 35mm prints of the 1997 SE trilogy. These scans will include a LUT, such that the colors match a projected print. If the colors are as great as I hope they will be, I will be using these scans to color correct the entire bluray trilogy to match these 1997 prints. This will be a nice complementary color grading to NeverarGreat’s technicolor regrade for ANH.

I wonder why they dubbed her voice…I find no reason for it, but evidently George did.
I finally have the ships isolated - 415 frames. Still need to tweak the edges a bit, but that layer is largely done. The tweaks only affect where the Star Destroyer crosses each moon and where it moves in front of the Blockade Runner. Now I just have the laser layer to finish. Much easier since most of the frames are blank, but I have to make sure the laser bolts are free of stars and other artifacts and that I don’t miss any. I have the Engine Glow already done. I have a couple of tweaks left to the stars and planets (making sure the edges of the planets are right and the stars are the right intensity) and then I can make a rough cut.

The Tarkin scenes have been of much contention in this thread, so I figured I would share this little tidbit: the restored archival footage shown at Celebration had its own unique grading for the alternate shots of some of these scenes, and when balanced they yield aesthetically pleasing results:

Nice Swazzy…I like that the uniforms here are still, that near Olive Drab Green color, instead of a more brownish/green coloring. Can you post a picture of what Peter Cushing looks like in this picture, using your transcript/settings?
Very nice Dre! It is a shame that someone just cut the movie up like this, but Dre. will put these Technicolor film samples to good use, and get this project matched to how it looked in the theaters in 1977, and soon we’ll all be able to have it in our collection. I can hardly wait.

Today I recieved another 500 technicolor frames. I can confirm, that during the Mos Eisley entrance scene the orange/yellow droid R5-A2 is indeed more yellow than orange. The shot where Luke and the gang are stopped by Stormtroopers looks somewhat like this:

Another conclusion I can draw from looking at the actual technicolor frames, is that the Mike Verta ColorRef videos, which contain rough corrections to the raw scan of the technicolor print he used as the basis for his Legacy Edition are very inaccurate for many scenes. Most of the Tatooine footage is too red and desaturated.

Questions…Will the engine flares of the Star Destroyer, have the same look as seen in Harmy’s DeEd 2.5 - 2.7? Or will it be more, or less? And does the '81 version differ from the '77 version, in the flaring?

A question for you yotsuya, Is the only color in either the '77, '81 or 97 starfield, Black and White, or is there variations of Blue in there somewhere?
The only thing I have to go by is the enhancement that Poita did. He used astronomy software to pull out a lot more stars than I could detect out of the 35 mm scan of the '81 starfield and a lot of them have some color. I went under the assumption that the color he came up with was oversaturated because none of the other shots of the same starsfield (it was created for TESB and various pieces of it show up in like 50+ different shots in TESB) don’t show any color to speak of. When I up the saturation, the small stars tend to go blue and the large ones tend to go red. But using the original saturation they all tend to be neutral in color - white or gray.
