Let's talk blu-ray burning...
Time

I took the plunge because of the many Blu Ray projects in the works on this forum.  I went with an internal Sony Optiarc BD-5300S. I've burned many single layer verbatim BD-Rs with no errors with IMGBurn.  I have also tried Memorex BD-R 25s and my drive won't even recognize them.  I'm burning my first dual layer verbatim BD-R next week and I'm a little worried to make a $14 coaster with it. Hopefully IMGBurn won't let me down.  I always burn at 2x speed.

You didn't upset me, I just can't believe it's that confusing.  I put it on my to-do list.  I upload it to a file locker site.  I submit it to fanedit.info.  They post the links.

Incidentally, I bumped these to the top of the list due to popularity.  Begins is uploading right now.

Good enough for me! Thanks again!

Future of Home Video

Speaking of Blu Ray compression artifacts, generally I don't notice them. Some of my Blu Rays are obvious. Especially in dark scenes or desert landscapes. I'd sacrifice extras on the same disc if it meant a higher bit rate encode to help with the compression.  I have The Lord of the Rings extended editions and they spaced the movies over 2 Blu Rays. I welcomed that slight inconvenience as opposed to tons of compression artifacts.

EDIT: I'm also anxious to see if Blu Ray will become the standard format like DVD did, or if it will go the way of Laserdisc.  I'm tired of buying combo packs, I usually sell my DVD and digital copies. Just give me the single disc Blu Ray for cheap

Well, it's not really a problem - it's just very minor compression artifacting, which is basically unavoidable given the space available on BD. I've seen official BDs with much worse compression artifacts than SW.

I wonder if they used a dual layer? I have many a Blu Ray movie with no signs of compression artifacts at all.

I was trying to do more of this a couple of years ago, and I got really irritated with the judder that most converters produced when going from PAL to NTSC.  I'm not very technically savvy and couldn't follow that complex guide from Doctor M.  I preferred the cheating method with IFOedit, as at least my video was smooth when watched on a proper player, and it was easy for my little brain to do.  But I just now did a little more research, and it appears this little program might work miracles...and it's freeware!

http://www.softpedia.com/get/CD-DVD-Tools/CD-DVD-Rip-Other-Tools/D2MP.shtml

Everything I read about it says that it perfectly converts and brings the menus along for the ride!  I'll have to check it out for a few of those videos that I had to cheat with.

Can't find a tutorial and when I tried, it won't accept any of the files in the Video_TS folder.  Would be so much easier if whoever has the NTSC version of Building Empire could tell us where they will upload lol

Yeah my cheat trick pal to NTSC doesn't work on my ps3. Too good to be true lol

Try this, it's worked every time for me:

http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/convert_pal_to_ntsc_page_5.cfm

Nice! I'll give it a shot tomorrow, thanks!!

If that doesn't work I recommend the program AVStoDVD.  This, unlike the IFOedit patch cheat option, will give you a 100% NTSC DVD.  The only reason this is my last-ditch option is because you might lose a little quality.  The first option I gave you has no loss in quality, of course.  I use the HCenc encoder in AVStoDVD which is a phenomenal encoder so you can't really lose with this either.

I have a program that will convert the main video file, but I was trying to preserve the menu and extras. Not sure if that's possible.

What's the name of the program you're talking about?  There are different ways to preserve the menu and extras but it's time consuming and a pain.  From what I've read it appears you need an extensive amount of software which is freeware or otherwise.

FWIW here's a guide for this:

http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Doctor-Ms-berGuide-for-Full-PAL-to-NTSC-DVD-Conversion-v20/topic/10111/

The program I have is AVS video converter, it doesn't preserve the menus though.  That guide is nice but a bit extensive for a documentary I'll only watch a few times.  Thanks though!
