I can tell you that both the BCI and Mill Creek Filmmation DVDs suffer from a botched PAL-to-NTSC conversion.  The shows had already been remastered for home video in the UK.  When BCI opted to use those PAL masters as their source, they failed to slow them back to film-speed before converting them to NTSC.  So, everything is sped-up, the sound has a higher pitch than the original broadcast, and there are blending problems aplenty.

If you want to see a really ugly one, check out the DVD of Space Sentinels.  There appear to be double interlace lines throughout, creating a bit of a double-image.  If I had access to my copy, I'd post some screen grabs.  It's almost like BCI failed to resize the image from 576i to 480i.

Thanks for the info! It's disappointing because He-Man is an all time favorite of mine, I did see on a blog someone came across the actual NTSC masters, but I doubt they'll ever get a proper transfer

According to what I'm reading, the He-Man & The Masters of the Universe DVDs do advertise themselves as digitally remastered.

Perhaps you could clip a small M2V sample from an episode using DGIndex or another MPEG-2 cutter so we can verify it isn't a playback problem. I'm looking at screenshots on another site that are fine.

Yes. I'll get a clip from one of the more offensive episodes.  Not every episode will display jaggies, so I am thinking it could be the transfers themselves

Does anyone here own any 80’s cartoons on DVD?  I’m noticing terrible aliasing on G.I. Joe (shout factory) and Masters of the Universe (Mill Creek).  Is this actually on the source or is it something wrong with the way I’m displaying it through my PS3 / HDTV?  It’s very distracting at times!

GBU 35mm IB tech print update:

Unfortunately, the seller is unable to fulfil my request so I'm going to have to let this opportunity pass. I'm unwilling to send USD $1600 based on pics of 5 frames.

Good call, can't expect anyone to put up that kind of money without knowing 100% what you're getting.

Well friends I think our next best hope would be the Italians re releasing their own version of the film that isn't as bad off at the MGM version.  Audio can certainly be synced because of course it will be lacking an English track.  I'll continue to keep my fingers crossed.

Check this out...

This brand new italian trailer for the re-release of gbu from the Leone film group looks nothing like the new mgm bluray...in fact I think it looks different from the mondo disc too.

Here is a quick and dirty comparison between the mgm 2014 blu, the italian mondo blu, and the new trailer released by the Leone film group. The footage from the Leone film Group trailer looks slightly different from the mondo release. Of course the MGM just looks terrible every time you compare a shot with blue sky!

Hmmm, definitely much closer to the Mondo....so who messed up here? lol

The lossless capture of the video will be around 15/20TB, not so pratical to have a copy of that! (^^,)

I think a good encoded BD-50 will suffice because, as poita said before, the overall resolution will be lower than the 4K UK or the Mondo BD, as they are mastered from the negative, then good enough to retain all the print details.

A BD-50 graded to match the IB would be incredible!

Just letting you guys know that i've created a new encode of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly that is less saturated than my first one. The colour in certain scenes of the first release were bugging me. This new version feels more 'balanced' to me colourwise in all the scenes compared to my first one that felt overly saturated in certain scenes like the first scene with Angel Eyes so it is now my prefered version of this film. I will of course be leaving the colourful version up as well for those that prefer it.

I'm also planning to create versions of these two releases with just the grotto scene removed and nothing else because I personally like all the other added scenes.

Has anybody got round to checking my first release? What did you think?

I thought it was pretty good, a definite improvement over the official release, I'd definitely be interested to see the newer encode, I did feel the color was still not quite right in a few scenes.
