how about a v3?

i might be able to provide the lossless mono from the italian bd. can say more tomorrow :)

Now what would be the purpose of that? :)

As for synching my mono track to Mondo - I'd rather do it myself.

I'll leave it to you then.  It would be a great english track for the Mondo.  The Mondo is still my preferred go to version when watching!

Harmy's THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK Despecialized Edition HD - V2.0 - MKV & AVCHD (Released)

Rounded corners don't distract one bit, i think what Harmy has done here is fantastic.

They'll never show up on my screen with a little overscan anyway...not that they bother me.  Haven't had a chance to check the workprint, but the screencaps I've seen look incredible.  Very exciting!

Details on the restoration of "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly"

For the color they used one or two
Technicolor copies of the era as a reference and they have consulted the assistant cameraman Sergio Salvati: he was the one who insisted on correcting color faded to yellow, arguing that this was the way in which Leone had wanted and thought.

If Sergio Salvati surmised that SL wanted his film bathed in such an extreme yellow, wouldn't IB Technicolor prints reflect this as well?

That's right and that's why that print POITA found is a big deal. It should look like the 4K (but I don't think it will). Frankly, no one knows for sure till that IB Tech print can be bought (if it can)

I would be fine with a little yellow. The Mondo has it over the old MGM but this is just a radical change. I have a bigger problem with the greenish colors more then the yellow. The sky is all over the place on the 4K. White is all wrong. I mean look at the first frame:

Which is a shame because the scan's detail is beautiful.

And of course then there is the mono...

Andrea, I will get together the scene that djchaseb posted (page 2) earlier for you to work with. The one with Tuco driving the stagecoach to the mission at night and meeting the blockade. Are people on that Italian AV board upset over the colors or are they cool with them?

I'm glad you posted this! When I first popped my copy in, I couldn't believe it.  You can't tell me it was originally like this on the Technicolor IB lol

I'd love to see an actual IB print to see how it compares with what was done on the new 4K disc.  We are supposed to believe that the yellow is that extreme?  I mean maybe but to me it's a stretch.

Well if you believe the restoration notes, this is the exact thing (Italian IB Tech) they used to color correct the 4K but of course that pic looks nothing like what we have seen so far from the 4K. Can anyone post a comparison of that scene to the new 4K?

All I had time for tonight, haven't ripped this to my pc, but here's a quick cell phone pic

A little status update on my project "Creating a real mono sound for the MGM Extended edition of GBU":

The current completion is at ca. 40%. There is not only issue of splicing in the extended pieces, but also issues of asynchronity of the mono track (sometimes for single lines) which also get fixed.

And I gotta say, the old gunshots sound so much better!

Thanks for the update, sadly I've never heard the mono mix. Very much looking forward to it!

Help Wanted: Does anyone have The Good, Bad & Ugly laserdisc audio?
Time

kk650, I'm happy to break it down for you but it depends on what cut you wish to use for your project. US/International, Italian or English Extended? This info will make it easier to advise on what audio/video sources will be required.

I don't think the goal should be to recreate the colours of Mondo; rather the focus, as you said, should be on removing the blanket yellow and optimizing image dynamics so that it looks...good. The regrade settings you used for your screenshots are already a big step in the right direction.

On page 1 of this thread is a description of my project that I posted on the Sergio Leone Web Board in late 2013. I put my project on hold until the release of the 4K BD. If you're intending to recreate the International cut, then this should help clarify things.

Your project sounds like exactly what I've been waiting for them to release officially

Got my UK steelbook today....so disappointed.  They just can't get my favorite movie right....I have the Mondo version synced with the English 5.1 mix....but it would be SO nice to have a mono mix without all the crappy newer sounding effects!

At least the Steelbook looks nice

And here's some yellow tint to go along with the movie lol

Help Wanted: 'An American Tail' (1986) Blu Ray (Original Theatrical Audio Restoration) (* unfinished project *)

Over on the blu-ray.com thread I think someone or someones pointed out that the adults dubbing WAS the original audio before the child actors were brought in. Guess they were placeholders until they hired some children to do the lines. Why they would bring them back though is anyone's guess.

Just by the way it sounds I have a hard time believing this is the truth, it sounds so out of place and definitely added in, IMO
