REY NOBODY - A Collaborative Thread
Time

The biggest hurdle to a Rey Nobody edit is the simple question of “what is Rey’s personal arc in this film?”

In ROTJ Luke is trying to save his father.

In TROS proper Rey is grappling with the true lineage within herself.

With the footage we have available to us what does Rey emotionally have to contend with? Why would she reach such a point of anger to strike down Kylo the way she did? What does is the reason she is so upset at Kylo during the Skype fight?

I like the idea of Rey killing her parents since that would be something she doesn’t want to accept. But I don’t feel like that is a good enough reason for her to reach the point of anger on the Death Star that she did. Honestly, with her character, that revelation of her evil with also being a Nobody would probably cause her to freeze instead of fueling her to fight.

I don’t really have answers to these questions but I think about them when perusing this thread.

We could cut out the “two were made line”

Rey says that almost as if it was a question earlier on in the film that got cut. We as the audience have known since the jump that there were two wayfinders. That line has always felt out of place and cutting that dialogue could help sell the passage of time part we’re talking about with Achto.

Using Jarbear’s sequencing idea, we could cut Ach-to at “you have everything you need” then cut to Pow and Crew. Then Act-to part 2 could start with Rey pulling the wayfinder out of the ship with no dialogue, perhaps no music either, then a rush of water and the music starting to swell in as she runs in the morning to see Luke pull the x-wing out of the ocean.

This might not work either, but its something.

The constant change of the lighting on Act-to just doesn’t make sense… It starts out as dusk and slowly darkens, but then all of a sudden it is the dawn? What happened to the night? I think to change the lighting like that would only work if something was inserted to delineate the passage of time like a cut away to the Resistance base or a shot of Rey sleeping (?).
