Info Wanted: What is the best Fan preservation of the Original Star Wars available?

Thanks you guys for the compliments, but you guys are still preferring the v3 DVD over our new Team Blu-ray release of SW 77? We think this BD just blows away the v3 DVD, you guys don't agree?

Thanks again

You guys did an amazing job, it's hard to believe you got the detail you did from GOUT. That said, you can't really put back what the excessive DNR destroyed.

Both your releases are excellent. If I had to choose, I would watch your V3. I find the added grain in the Blu-ray release somewhat distracting.

Actual preservation of the original?

Puggo Grande - Puggo's 16mm transfer

Recreation of the original?

Harmy's - an amazing recreation using best available sources.

Laserdisc transfer?

My favorite is Mysycamore's Technidisc transfer. It is free of the DNR that ruins the other laserdisc's / GOUT (imo). All of which are the original film except they have the 1981 "episode IV" crawl / intro.

They all have a different look and feel, check em out and see what you like best.

I don't mind the dirt at all, but the rainbowing does get a little annoying.

Yeah, it's not that I really "like" the rainbowing. I just prefer it to the processed look. The biggest strength of this source is the unprocessed film like quality it has.

I actually do like the dirt, grain, and minor flaws that make it feel like I'm watching film.

ElectricTriange: Yes, that is the temporal filtering. I might try to redo the first desert scenes with lower settings. It's not an easy thing though, because those parts are the dirtiest in the whole capture (besides that speeder flyby shot in Mos Eisley).

Good to know. To be honest, I don't mind dirt and noise all that much, but the noise reduction was tastefully done.

I don't mind it either. I agree the noise reduction looks pretty good. But I'd love to see it unprocessed with original grain, dirt, rainbows etc.. Maybe with the bad frames fixed, color levels adjusted, etc.

Btw, is there a synced version of schorman's Technidisc audio rip out there? AC-3 doesn't matter, would like to use his ripped audio instead.

I've got Molly's 85 mix synched. Not sure if it's sourced from the Technidisc though?

edit:

Found the thread,

http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/ANH-1985-remix-synched/topic/7913/

Darth Mallwalker says: "Molly's source was seventiesfilmnut's LD rip. It's a 1989 SWE with shrinking ratio pressed by Pioneer, USA"

Should be the same mix, right?

Sounds like the derainbow script would do more harm than good? The main strong point of this source is the detail and lack of digital processing, so I'm glad you decided to skip the derainbow.

The page for your first version is still there. It's just marked "dead" so it only comes up if "active torrents only" is unchecked. I'm relatively new to the myspleen tracker, but I would guess it automatically goes "dead" after not being seeded for a given time(?) Rather than an arbitrary decision by a mod or something like that.

I've never uploaded a finished version of the JSC to the newsgroup so that must have been another user.

My bad, I just assumed it was you who posted it. The NFO has your name in it, It was upped by "gonk"

Astraweb very well may be the problem? I haven't really had much problems with them though, except for very old posts.

Forty or more incompletes is a lot, no doubt.
Though I suspect hiccups from my Internet service provider to blame, not the news service provider.
(A month from now I'll have new ISP so no worries.)

Something is not right somewhere, I would suspect Althor's news service provider? His posts don't seem to propagate well. I attempted to DL his finished version of the JSC ep4 about a month ago. I'm on astraweb and it was riddled with bad blocks even though it wasn't a very old post. I was unable to repair it with all pars, it wasn't even close. For comparison I was able to get Dark Jedis version of the JSC off astraweb which was a 3 year old post.

I appreciate all your efforts, and hope to see someone put together a nice anamorphic DVD9 from this capture. I think The JSC and the Technidisc are my favorite sources. They're a little raw, but they seem so much closer to a film transfer than any of the DVNR sources.
