Idea & Info: Star Wars Deleted Scenes - Reincorporated?
Time

team_negative1 said:

Well obviously, there is one member on our team interested in the deleted scenes, and testing out the cleaning on them. This may ultimately lead to integrating them back into the movie, when the time comes. However, this is too far down the road to consider currently.

The rest of the members have varying opinions, but overall we concur, they are just that, deleted scenes that are not integral to the movie, but more like a curiosity and a historical record of the scenes.

A few fan editors have expressed interest, and have used them in fanedits, however, that's about all the use we've seen of them. Considering the fanbase, that's a very small number.

Team Negative1

So to whom are we responding?  You are posting that these are not of value, that they are little more than a curiosity, and yet you are the one putting them up.  Or are we switching between members because I must confess, this whole team account thing is very confusing?

Anyhow, obviously we are not pining for an official Disney/LFL release with the deleted scenes cleaned up and included.  We meant an official Team_Negative1 release.  We as the OT.com community believe that these are not only of historical interest (which in itself warrants cleaning them up) but also of value to any future fan editors who wish to incorporate the scenes into their edits.  Many have shown extensive interest throughout the past near four years since the scenes' release in having cleaned up versions, and I know I speak for the rest of Team_OT.com when I say that if your team has the ability to clean them up, we all would love an official release from you.  With gratitude and appreciation for what you've done, of course, because we must confess that what you are doing here an on other projects is indeed an invaluable service.  Just don't shoot down a great idea.

Team Ender Has Tee Shirts and Cupcakes! (Was: Team_Ender has fallen; Join Team_Ender)
Time

Yes folks, I am officially announcing the formation of Team_Ender!  We will shape the future of Star Wars fan editing and restoration through team collaboration.  However beyond the initial hazing process, which I assure you has lots of booze and brass knuckles involved, there are a few expectations:

1. You must abandon your original account.  No one is permitted to have more than one, so you must surrender your unique identity and join the hive mind.

2. You must not duplicate my distinctive style.  Many of you may not have noticed, but I am one of the few who clings to the antiquated method of double sentence spacing–that is, following a period, a press the space bar twice.  But since this reveals who I am, we must all abandon it.

3. You must never acknowledge that I am even involved in the team.  You must pretend that you haven’t seen me log in for months.

4. We need a cool shared password.  I refer you each to your luggage code for inspiration, like 1-2-3-4-5.

5. You must do the bulk of the work for our team, since I lack all fan editing talent

Now while this may seem like a demanding task, I assure you there are benefits:

1. Think how much faster things will get done.  Though only one of us will have purchased the expensive equipment necessary to perform our projects, it will certainly get done faster because, well…well, there are more people working on this because we’re a team, so it will definitely get done faster.  Hurrah!

2. All may be overly opinionated and share their opinions about everything as if they represented the whole team.  Always use the plural pronouns “we” and “us” and make sure that no matter how far apart we talk as if we always agree and are always in constant communication outside of this site, even if it’s not true.  But just think of the greater strength your opinions will have when you automatically have a whole team behind you!

3. If someone screws up and gets reprimanded, simply blame it on another member of the team, and make sure that “we will take care of that rogue.”  Of course we need not do anything because no one knows who’s posting.

4. The glory!

5. The comradery!

6. The excuse to technically break OT.com rules without repercussion because you are doing something glorious!

Once we have our team, then we can try to find something useful to do.

Remember,

for Team_Ender!

Design failures (and successes) of the PT
Time

So clearly everyone here finds the PT inferior to the OT.  And equally clearly, everyone despises a number of plot points, from the very basis of even including Anakin, to the Chosen One prophecy, to midichlorians, to racial stereotypes (I'm not buying that one, personally), to Jedi masters with lightsabers, and so forth.  To exacerbate the criticisms, people then turn to the acting, wherein some of the most amazing actors of our day seem to give wooden performances, while others (sexy handsome Hayden, anyone?) of lesser establishment couldn't act their way out of an open beach shade tent.  But one issue less touched upon are the design issues.  Now honestly, I must admit that this may be one of the PT's stronger points, as there are several great designs throughout the trilogy.  But there are several design flaws as well.  I will name those that spring most readily to mind.

There is no iconic main ship, no equivalent to the Millennium Falcon.  We come to love that ship as a unique character of the OT, yet there is nothing, absolutely no one ship that makes it through the entire trilogy.  There are few that make it through two films (I can only think of Padme's silver ship in AOTC and ROTS and the Naboo fighters from TPM and AOTC off the top of my head), and of those that do , we see so little of them and it has so little character that it literally doesn't matter at all.

In a similar vein, there are no iconic designs of more mass-produced ships.  The X-wings, Star Destroyers, TIE Fighters, all last throughout the OT, all have an iconic, memorable look, all play a significant role in the films, and all provide a sense of continuity.  Now I like the Naboo fighter design.  But it is introduced at the end of the first film, is shown briefly at the beginning of the next, and then has no important ongoing role for the rest of the trilogy.  There are other similar ships, but it seems like they are always changing, like the Droid Control ships, the cruisers that are essentially mini Star Destroyers (can't remember the class of either, nor do I care to look it up at the moment), but there is nothing to remind us that, yes, we are watching movies in the same continuity.

Where else does the PT fall short in design?  And to be fair, what are its successes?

What are you reading?
Time

I love fantasy but I haven't read a wide variety.  I've kinda stuck to the staples, namely The Hobbit/Lord of the Rings, and The Chronicles of Narnia.  Well, I recently watched The Neverending Story for the first time in probably two decades (sorry, I don't know how I misworded it in your thread, Frink, because I loved this movie as a kid).  Thought I'd give the book a go.  There is an excellent translation (it's originally in German), and though I'm not too far into it, it truly is fascinating and original, without delving too much into cliches.  It's a fun read, and I recommend it highly.

Episode VI: Return of the Jedi — The 'Ziggy' Edit (Released)
Time

I like a lot of these ideas, especially Anakin disappearing.

I find the rancor scene so iconic that I'm disappointed it's gone.  It's not flawless, but I think the effects were pretty up with the times back in '83 for that scene, and a number of the issues have been fixed in the SEs.  I don't see why it should be removed.  It may not be essential to the story, but then, most movies have action bits that aren't essential, yet remain iconic.  I'd hate to see that go.

Any chance you might post a clip or two?  Like I said, Anakin vanishing has me especially interested.

How you pictured Anakin pre-PT
Time

George Lucas admits going for the James Dean kind of look.  Apart from the acting, I think even just the look of Hayden Christiansen was wrong.  I always imagined a more masculine adult, someone in his late 20s, perhaps with a deeper voice and more charismatic--someone who didn't need a lot of voice modulation to achieve the JEJ voice, ya know?

How did you picture Anakin?  Who might you have cast in place of Hayden?

Star Wars Episode VII, VIII, IX George Lucas original story outline, scripts, treatments or his ideas
Time

In spite of the popularity of picking on George Lucas, I personally still have a lot of respect for the man.  That said, I am sure the new movies will be great, but I wish that Disney had not completely discarded his treatments as it sounds like they have.  I feel respect for the original creator's ideas, even with liberal interpretation, would have been a good thing.

Random Thoughts
Time

Got punched in the face today by a patient.  Can't tell the whole story, but it is actually quite humorous.  To make it short, I had a patient who was having high blood pressures.  I went to check her BP, and she was breathing but unresponsive.  I, being the great nurse that I am, tried several times to rouse her before trying sternal rubs, which typically determine if a person is truly having a substantial loss of mental function.  I had reason to believe she might be faking unconsciousness due to reported history, but due to her lack of response I was preparing to call a Rapid Response when her eyes popped open, filled with fury, and she clocked me!  Really it barely contacted, but it was a surprise, and she then began a violent tirade, trying to harm staff till we had to sedate her.  Made me sad.  All I did was what I was supposed to do to make sure she was okay, and she obviously didn't like it and could fake unconsciousness no more.
