How should have the Empire Strikes Back Plot Twist have been kept a secret in the prequel trilogy???

I used to think perhaps Anakin would live a double life as Vader for a time. (Perhaps undermining the Jedi from within?) The sith(?) armor and voice being his disguise. After the lava planet duel, it becomes his full identity, as Palpatine would need Vader's established reputation to get things done.

I think something like this would be awesome.  I think I had a similar, though not quite so extensive idea in the radical redux thread.  But it seems like references could be made to a rumored assassin called Darth Vader in Episode III.  Ideally Kenobi would also have another apprentice who turned to the Dark Side as well.  All references to Anakin as Vader would be removed (and perhaps additional material introduced where Palpatine orders the mysterious Vader to hunt down the Jedi).  In the end we imply that Anakin dies of course, and the mystery is preserved.

What do you LIKE about the Prequels?
Time

I have to say that I've always been impressed at SilverWook's longsuffering.  He never seemed quite like a mod, but rather just "one of the guys," ya know (that's meant as a compliment, BTW)?  But to see someone push his buttons so fast in so few days...it takes a special talent.

EDIT: On the plus side, Adywan's usually so quiet...it's nice to see someone bring him out of his shell a bit ;)

So I'm among the minority here that finds redemptive value in the prequels despite my disappointment with each of them and their many flaws. I've been considering TPM lately in particular. There are many juvenile moments, bad acting, the lame midichlorian excuse, and a weak story in many regards. However, I'm starting to warm up to the film, even all those things I just mentioned. It has many beautiful shots (particularly with the aristorcratic Naboo), interesting ships designs, and a fun lightsaber fight. Even more significant to me in recent viewings is that to me it does carry a Star Wars feel to it, perhaps better than the faster paced Episodes II and III. It uses real miniatures and one can easily tell the difference. The lightsabers remind me of the originals with their flicker. The Jedi actually seem to be powerful.

In fact, among all the criticisms of the film, my biggest problem with it is not what most people say. Rather than Jar Jar or intracellular symbionts, my biggest complaint is the strange pacing: it cuts from scene to scene far too quickly, yet still feels too slow. I don't mind slow films if they are cut in a similar fashion, but somehow this movie is fast and boring at the same time.

But at the end of the day, I still feel like I'm watching Star Wars when I see Episode I. That's something I like about it.

Do you think Grand Moff Tarkin survived the Death Star Explosion?
Time

No no, Frink. I think he's right on every count this time ;)

In all seriousness, FS, you are the first one to suggest something that is completely implausible (that maybe Tarkin survived) in spite of a lack of evidence. Then you demand that others disprove your theory if they disagree. His comment about Captain Antilles was obviously mocking you by using the exact same strategy.

By the way, the Death Star alone is more than 1 million times the size of all of Japan. I think its explosion would be far larger than a mere 100-200 times the size of the explosions of the weakest nuclear bombs in history.

What would Darth Vader have been like as a ruler, if he had overthrown emperor palpatine and became the emperor/ruler of the galaxy himself??

Please don't ban him yet!  I find him extremely hilarious!  I haven't cried so hard laughing from reading someone's posts for some time!

I am waiting the users on this thread to actually have a serious discussion on the thread that i had created. Let's speculate about how darth vader would rule the galaxy if he had become the emperor, and please read my posts above and respond to them.....

No such thing as a serious discussion with you.  You talk about how stupid it is to speculate and how we can't consider certain things beyond the movies as appropriate canon in discussion, then you go around speculating something completely idiotic and say, "Is there any proof in the EU that it didn't happen????????????????????????????????????"  Serious discussions usually involve being considerate, rational, and a true willingness to listen to others' ideas (a virtue which you seem to expect of others, yet really do little of yourself).  If you change your style, you might actually make a few friends around here.  But if not, I suspect you'll be banned and I'll probably be the only one missing you, since I get perverse pleasure watching folks make fools of themselves.

Help: looking for... Prequel Preservations...
Time

I don't have very good hardware for capturing.  I do, however, have the widescreen VHS for Episode I.  I can try to capture that in the near future if anyone is interested.  I think it is cropped like the DVD, but again, if you're really interested.

I should note that I really enjoy Adywan's reconstruction, but I was surprised to learn about that change no one caught till Feng Zei (sp?).  Indeed, immediately after Queen Amidala begins her journey back to Naboo, we see a night exterior shot with a river on the right.  In the DVD and later, there's a bridge over the river.  But not in the theatrical!  I'll try to get a screencap soon.

EDIT: I should note that I've finally gotten ahold of the Episode II bootleg.  I'll probably put it up on MySpleen soon.  It was weird because I've had some trouble with newsgroups (which I've been using with some success on trial runs).  While I was able to download other edits and such, I couldn't seem to get this one to work.  I had to use UseNetStorm.com, which allows you to download files less than 200 mb at a time with a 24 hour cap on your IP address at 400 mb.  Since most of the files for the bootleg were 101 mb, I had to do it one at a time and stop with only three files downloaded.  I bounced around town downloading pieces at various free wifi points.  Big pain in the butt, but I've got it now.

Take the twooffour Pledge (Pledge is Suspended - See Post #121) (At one time thread was about DOGS WEARING HATS)

Oh boy! I thought Easterhay was the successor to twooffour, but now I'm excited to find that Father Skywalker may instead be the appropriate troll. I don't know why I'm so fascinated with jerks, but I like trying to take them down a couple of notches. If I felt I could devote the time to it, I'd really love to have a go at him!

Deleted, altered, and alternate material project (Released)

Your video looks great, pittrek. That's cool to see it all put back together like that (nice touch with the 16 mm or whatever it was). Sadly I don't think I'd be the right guy to put the scenes back into the movies, though I hope someone will make extended editions of the OT sometime soon. But I'm definitely interested in seeing your stills if you're willing.

^^Ditto.  Moreover, you see when Grievous breaks the window and makes his dramatic exit, the air in the bridge is sucked into space and the occupants fear for their lives and can't breathe all that well till those air locks were closed.  Father, you seem to have a propensity for arguing the inane.

I've mentioned it a few times.  I've case managed for four different agencies and for various populations, the first being the most interesting.  I managed the cases of adults with developmental disabilities and were diagnosed as seriously mentally ill (SMI, meaning their GAF is 50 or below), as well as with children mostly 5 through 18.  Now I work as a counselor with the 0-5 population and their parents, some of whom are very crazy!

I don't take too much offense anymore at your wording.  And I consider myself very scientifically-minded, as well as faith-minded.  I think you see that reading my posts.  And I have a lot of respect for Carl Sagan.
