Inconsistencies, retcons, and other problems in the OT
Time

To be fair I am starting this thread along with the other.

http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Inconsistencies-retcons-and-other-problems-between-the-PT-and-OT-or-within-the-PT/topic/15069/

There are problems in the OT, but I don't believe them to be so extensive or damaging to the narrative. Still, they're worth discussing, so here's the place to discuss them.

Inconsistencies, retcons, and other problems between the PT and OT or within the PT

Obviously there are many between the trilogies and even with the PT. I just wanted to catalogue them here. Please fire away, because I'm actually going to use this list on the Jedi Council Forums.

Here is its twin thread:

I've not seen it, so I cannot comment on the film itself. However, my dad is a great singer (not lying when I tell you he was once a part of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir back in the '60s). His speaking voice is certainly deeper than mine, but he can sing higher and more powerfully than I can (and while not of his caliber, I'm a pretty good and somewhat trained singer). So it is reasonable.

Alright, I think I should share this.

http://boards.theforce.net/threads/the-strange-perspective-of-the-ot-with-pt-colored-glasses.50008226/

I started a thread pointing out why I find it silly when people criticize the OT for failing to mesh with "facts" established by the PT. I'm having a useful discussion with one person there, but he seems to be the only one getting (and only with some real talking) what I'm getting at. Sure, I like the OT better, but if you like the PT, that's cool. Sure there are inconsistencies between the trilogies that were created by the PT. Sure there are retcons within the OT that I find much more enjoyable than those created by the PT. But the point is that if you have a problem with the OT, and that problem arises because you think something in the PT counters it, then your view is skewed. The PT came second. The PT changed the story. The PT created the inconsisency. Thus, the PT is to blame, not the OT, for your strange issue with the story.

I'm trying to be patient and respectful, but most of the posters there simply seem to be jumping on the "typical oldschool OT fanboy" bandwagon and try to refute my reasons for preferring the OT or criticize me for holding the two trilogies to different standards. I think anyone who puts down the PT in any way is quickly scorned for not embracing the whole saga, and they immediately become defensive against what they think I'm trying to say, rather than what I'm actually saying.

Jedi Council Forum Laughs
Time

The "Got a Question? Ask it here!" thread was created as a sticky thread specifically in response to Lord Tyrannus's (Father Skywalker's) numerous questions so he wouldn't keep starting new threads to address asinine questions.  That in itself is a Jedi Council Forum laugh IMO.  But even funnier is how he just got unbanned two days ago, then rebanned by DarthHimmler just yesterday...I mean DarthBoba for comments in that very thread.  Read on.  As obnoxious as he can be at times, this really seems undeserved.  But it makes me laugh that he's annoyed that mod so much that if he itches his nose wrong, he gets banned.

So, the movie moved Anne Hathaway's song "I'm So Damn Sad, Dear God I'm Sad" from after she looses her job (which would make me sad) where it is in the stage musical,  until...

SPOILERS ALERT

...after she becomes a bald toothless prostitute (which would make me sadder). Seems a solid dramatic choice.

Kinda weird that Ann would sing a song about being so darn sad in a story called Les Miserables. ;)

Honestly, that sounds like a better position for the song to me.

How many people have viewed the "How many People have signed the petition and should we post the petition on Social Media sites(Twitter,Google+, etc)?" thread?
Time

Well, and technically it counts every click on any part of the thread as two or three views, so if you click on a page, go to the next page, add a comment, then edit it, that counts as at least four views.  So a more accurate description would be "How many views..." but then it doesn't match the other thread as closely, so...

EDIT: I really do see what you did there Slick Willie.

A Thread for the Suggestion of Threads that Should Never Exist
Time

@Davnes...denied.  That's a wonderful thread idea!

@Warbler...approved on all counts, except maybe the Bush thread, as I feel there are redeeming qualities.  But other than that, you have my permission to never create those other threads.

@Bingowings...approved, but only because it's moot.  Ha ha!  Otherwise I'd have denied your request.

@TV's Frink...denied!  How would we ever know what not to start threads about without a comprehensive list?  This thread is a wonderful idea.

Willow.  This may be the first film I remember seeing in the theater.  I was 6 at the time, and remember being surprised that Skeletor made an appearance.  Even now I still love this movie, and it's surprising how it's not rated higher on IMDB.  Sure, it rips off Star Wars with parallels for Luke, Han, the Emperor, Vader, the Force, the Empire, the Rebels, theme, etc.  Nevertheless, it still is very enjoyable to me, and George Lucas came up with the story, so I'm not surprised that he reused his own ideas.  Plus, while I enjoy James Horner's compositions, this may be my favorite of his soundtracks.

Not sure where the best place to put this is, as it's actually an upcoming film I'm looking forward to seeing again, but I don't think it merits a thread just for it.

Willow is coming to BD

It will include deleted scenes, many of which I've known about for years but have never seen.

Remember how the Nelwyn wizard gives Willow three acorns that turn things to stone?  He drops one and the second has a meager effect on Bavmorda, so ultimately they were useless.  Well, if you've read the novel (which I did in 1999), you might know that Willow actually battled some large fish creature after rescuing Fin Raziel from the island.  He defeats it with an acorn!

I know this movie isn't everyone's favorite, but it has a special place in my heart and I'm glad that we'll finally see these deleted scenes.

PT: Star Wars Hypocrites
Time

Queen Amidala Neberie states, “I was not elected to watch my people suffer and die; this invasion in a committee.” “It is clear to me the Republic no longer functions.”  She then takes her people and the Gungan people to war against the Trade Federation to resolve the dispute.

Later:

Senator Padme Amidala and Anakin are having an exchange.

A: We need a system where the politicians sit down and discuss the problem… agree what’s in the best interest of all people… and then do it.

P: That’s exactly what we do. The trouble is that people don’t always agree.

A: Well, then they should be made to.

P: By whom? Who’s going to make them?

A: I don’t know. Someone.

P: You?

A: Of course not me.

P: But someone.

A: Someone wise.

P: Sounds an awful lot like a dictatorship to me.

And continually presses her opposition to the creation of an army and war to resolve conflict.

HYPOCRITE!
