The Enderverse (WAS: Finally! Ender's Game emerges from Development Hell!)

@TheBoost, I wasn't sure I wanted to reply, but I guess I will. In Rotterdam, there were really only two super-intelligent kids there. The other kids were just scroungers who'd become acclamated to their cruel world, but I don't think most of them other than Bean and Achilles were outside the scope of plausible.

@Frink, while I like the following books less than the first, there are a lot of aspects I do enjoy. What in particular was too silly for your liking?

Well, cyberspace ate my last post. These were the relevant points.

NeverarGreat, it was obvious to me from your first post that you probably are pretty hardcore. That's cool. Too bad you didn't enjoy the film as much as I did, as I was okay with the changes.

I feel we get to know the dwarves far better in the film than in the books, and while I can't usually put a name to each face, I can remember at least 8 of their faces and what made them unique. It's harder to do a better job than that with so many minor characters involved simultaneously, but perhaps a better move would have been to focus on three or four of the dwarves (plus the constant focus on Thorin) per film, thus leading to greater familiarity with a different bunch each time.

As for the eagles, they are hardly different from the books, but the lack of development and the very "convenient" deus ex machina that they are makes me wonder if doing the films in the proper order instead of Star Wars order might have helped things make more sense with them and perhaps a number of other points as well.

Dark Knight Rises - Now that we know the cast
Time

I think two fan edits could resolve the problem for me:

1) Slightly rearrange the ending so that all the hinting at Bruce's possible survival remain, but that the last shot is Alfred looking at the camera, smiling, and nodding. It would still be slightly ambiguous, much like Inception, where we're pretty darn sure that we know everything ended up happy, but there's just a teeny tiny bit of doubt.

OR

2) Cut all references to his survival and simply imply that John Blake took over, thus strengthening the message that Batman's a symbol, not a person, and that even with Bruce dead, Batman lives on.

Personally I favor the first option.

Nevertheless, I still really enjoy the film, despite a slightly weakened ending. I feel it could have been slightly better with one of the two endings I mentioned, but as it is, the true ending does not damage the film too seriously for me.

I think all of Brash's points are valid.  I will be amazed if you manage to nail this, Ady.  I can hardly wait.  While I respect others' views that there is no point to trying to rearrange the films and that they should be watched 4-6, 1-3 (or 4-5, 1-3, 6), George's own statement that the films should be watched 1-6 makes me truly wish for a version that can achieve that while preserving what is sacred about the OT.

I know that some of this would be facilitated by slightly altering Obi-Wan's lines in the OT, but I also understand the desire to build the PT completely around the OT and not the other way around.

I'm curious, Ady, if you also have a plan for Yoda, which I thought was another surprise ruined, and which Brash mentioned earlier.  He's an important character as well with numerous lines critical to the plot.  Perhaps putting him in encompassing robes may be the only way to do it.

Help: looking for... Prequel Preservations...

Here's a link that compares various theatrical bootlegs of the Star Wars films.  It has numerous shots from every version it mentions

http://fd.noneinc.com/Theater_Performance/index.html

I got the Centropy version of Episode II.

Sorry not to provide you with my own screenshots, but I'm away from my computer with my copy of the bootleg on it, but they should be the same.

BTW SKot, check your PMs, since you're not getting notification of them :)

I have to say that Sam was one of my favorite characters. Sam was underappreciated, but he really had a great deal to offer. He always seemed to ask all the right questions, and even if they seemed mundane initially, we'd know how important they were in the end. Sam was very passionate in his views and would press them in spite of anyone's contradictions. And when he really let forth his wrath, he had the ferocity of a troll! That's what I love about Sam.

Not terribly important. Just a guy who asked lots of questions. You can track some of our discussion over here.

But I believe we were discussing what we like about George Lucas. Frankly, I'm happy he sold Star Wars to Disney. It's hard to part with something you care about, and if I'm certain of anything, it's that George loves Star Wars. He did a hard thing, but it was the right thing, and I'm proud of him for it.

Well, I don't want to get into too much of this sort of a discussion, especially considering this forum doesn't really put much stock into PT retcons, but bear in mind that Fett was originally played by Jeremy Bulloch, a full-fledged white man.

But as to saying that because there wasn't much diversity, I disagree. Lando's a very interesting character IMHO. James Earl Jones provided the most iconic voice to the most iconic bad guy (post-sexy hot tamale olympian demigod) in all movie history.

Rare card? I think you mean race card. Anyway, I don't really believe George is racist. I'm just joking about what others have said. People say the Gungans make fun of Caribbean blacks while Watto makes fun of Jews. I even remember hearing that Kamino and clones makes fun of illegally immigrating Mexicans because "Camino" means "path" or "I walk" in Spanish, and considering there's a whole army of brown skinned guys (nevermind the fact that Temuera Morrison is really a Maori from New Zealand) ready to march, surprisingly many believed that he was making fun of illegal immigrants.
