(yes, I even like TFF more than most).
Me too!
I admit it has its faults, but I think it has a real TOS feel to it. Had the effects been better and some aspects of the story not so super cheesy, much of it was exactly what the original Trek was about, IMO.

Darth_Ender, are you aware that there is a Phase II fan film series that is actually quite well funded and has had some of the original cast members on it? They have used some of the original scripts and designs. It began as a series called New Voyages I think, but they changed it to a re-creation of Phase II halfway into it.
Yes, I actually linked to it in my first post ;) Thanks though. I have downloaded their episodes, but I've been so busy that I haven't had time to watch them. I understand that they may not be the best quality, but I still think it would fun to see the original ship and crew continuing their adventures.
I think it is worth the effort. Adywan's work only gained support after demonstrating that he was absolutely committed to completing his amazing edit. People don't trust other people on the Internet. First, there are lots of scammers, and second, there are lots of people who are not committed to finishing what they start. If you are able to keep putting out demonstration videos and show that you are making substantial progress, I'm sure folks will start to get behind you. I hope that's not depressing news because I'd really like to see what you are producing. Best of luck, as it looks like an awesome project. I hope you find some early donors, and hopefully you'll develop a fan club.
I am precepting now for nursing. My preceptor is a very nice and knowledgeable male nurse who has been in the field for years and years. But today he let me know he's got some strange ideas about the present pope: he's not Jesus Christ, but rather the antichrist! He had one of those things where he takes a few verses and pieces them together with some historical junk like Babylonian numerology and ultimately concluded this. I'm usually very open about my faith, but considering the way this guy thinks, I'm just a Protestant Christian to him. Don't get me wrong, I really like the guy, but I really am not a fan of these bizarre theories that people develop that predict the Second Coming and all the Rapture and all that.
Oh, that herculean demigod! Woop!

Horror/slasher anthology film. A few good stories, a few not as good. The most disappointing part of this was the framing device, which was stupid, illogical, and ended very lamely. Also, there was way too much gratuitous nudity. Sure, 15-year-old me would have loved it, but 39-year-old me could tell that much of it was made by dudes who haven't grown up.
Two out of five tapes.
I'm a little fuzzy on what the "right" amount of gratuitous nudity actually is. ;)
They really spelled VHS that way? Were the filmmakers afraid JVC was going to sue? Poor Betamax hasn't gotten much horror movie love since Videodrome...
LOL!
He's "a little fuzzy," get it? He's SilverWook. HAHAHAHA!!!
Oh, and the other stuff was funny too. ;)
^My mom always told me I was inspiring ;)
^^I look forward to learning more about it. It kinda saddens me Star Trek abandoned the series for the dreadful TMP. But then I can't hate too much because without TMP there would probably have been no TWOK and all that followed (yes, I even like TFF more than most). I really enjoy most of the TOS films, and the thought of never getting those is also a tragedy. If there were some way we could have gotten both, I'd be a happy man :)
Now that I'm saying that, maybe one day Paramount will consider Phase II in the Prime Universe. I doubt it though, as I think everything is going to follow Chris Pine Kirk from now on. Too bad they don't try to appeal more to the old style fans simultaneously with parallel material.
^^A very gentle response. I hope I didn't come off as too big a jerk, Leo (or anyone for that matter). I like everyone here, even those I disagree with on motives and such, even those I've specifically disagreed with on this thread. I obviously am feeling very passionate about this topic at this moment, as I imagine most of us are.
I've always enjoyed Trek, but my interest in it waxes and wanes: it's always something I like, just not always something I think about. But I definitely have recently had a resurgence of interest. Phase II in particular is extremely interesting to me. I'll have to check out all these books you're recommending, as they sound so very interesting. Also I'm curious about Planet of the Titans, but I know very little about that or where to research further Beyond Memory Alpha.

I've decided to come back in here due to the fact that the news about the events has changed and one suspect has been killed and the other is one the run

this is what I originally said:
Warbler said:
If I had one guess, I'd guess Al Qaeda did this.
is that really a rush to a conclusion? I wasn't saying we shouldn't investigate further. I wasn't saying we should conclude Al Qaeda did this and that we should just go after them. I WAS MAKING A GUESS!!!!!
I will admit to making one mistake, I should have added the following to that original post: "But it is entirely possible that Al Qaeda had nothing to do with this, and of course this should be fully investigated"
If I had added that, the original post would have more accurately reflected my thoughts and feelings at that point.
But still, I think it was complete wrong to jump all over me and accuse me of racism, when all I did was guess that a terrorist organization(that had previously attacked American and had threatened to so again) was responsible for this terrorist attack.
darth_ender said:
Oh, and Warbler, while I despise conspiracy theories, I think jumping all over Fan was a poor choice as well. Better to shut down conspiracy theories with rational discussion than fiery but ultimately pointless words.
no matter how rational you try to be with conspiracy nuts, and not matter how logical your argument are, there is no way to shut him down. And in the immediate aftermath of something like the Boston Bombing, I really don't feel like rationally arguing with a conspiracy nut.
darth_ender said:
There is a benefit to asking questions rather than just assuming the official story is 100% accurate, though I think those conspiracy theorists take it way too far.
Asking reasonable questions is one thing, but that is not was these conspiracy nuts do. They find out something like the Boston bombing happens and they go "Yippy! another chance a conspiracy theory, lies and false accusations! Hmm, how can I make this look like the government did this?"
There is nothing reasonable or beneficial to what they do.
I hope you realized that my post was actually defending you, regardless of any misstatements in that defense.
As for conspiracy theory nuts, they are not trying to spread lies. They are extremely skeptical of information from mainstream sources, while extremely gullible to information from other sources. They believe they are pursuing truth, though their methods are very flawed. They are the opposite extreme of most of the American public, who in general are too trusting of official information without being willing to examine other sources. I'm not a fan either, and I probably err on the side of trusting my government, but it is wise to question.

can we really conclude that Al Qaeda would only go after political targets?
Why waste good money and explosive on targets that don't interest them? They are a political organization, they go where the money is. They hit the WTC because, guess what, there was money there, World TRADE CENTER! It was a huge kick in the nuts not just to american economy, but to world economy!
I have news for you, Leo. The general public is a political target. Why do you think Al-Qaeda in Iraq blew up every marketplace and public location they could reach with their zealots from 2004 till now? There wasn't a lot of money there. Instead, it created a feeling of "terror," leading people to be afraid to go outside, to believe that the US and Iraqi gov'ts couldn't provide them safety. That is a political motive, as it undermines the authority of the regime and the Americans. The same is easily said of the Boston bombing. It was terrorism, as it was intended to strike terror into the hearts of the American people for political reasons.
That they wouldn't go after targets where there are many Americans gathered together for them to murder?
If you're going by that reasoning they should've done that during the Super Bowl. Juiciest occasion right there!!
I don't think they're concerned with just killing people for the heck of it. If you really think that the baddies want you dead just because they're bad, I'm sorry but you're naive.
They are concerned with killing people for the heck of it, and they don't care whom they harm! Why do you think they pay security guards at the superdome? Just to keep out the white rednecks with guns? I guarantee you terrorists would love to get in there and harm as many people as possible. They don't limit themselves to what we consider military targets.
They don't want us dead just because they're bad. Don't get me wrong, they are very evil, but obviously they see themselves as good people fighting for some cause, in the case of Islamic terrorism, the cause of Allah. But they want Americans dead, regardless of their race, sex, age, or involvement in the military, because they genuinely believe all Americans are evil. They are the very definition of ethnocentrism. Do you believe these Chechen young men feel guilt that they harmed an 8 year-old child? Their motives are more complex, and if you read the manifestos and statements of these jihadists, you'd see that they don't value the lives of their enemies the way we do. If you think they hold to the same values you and I do, then I'm sorry but you're naive.

That looks really cool. Just even posting my post and reading yours makes me want to go out an buy it. I know a store where it is held here in my little town. However, I'm sure the Amazon price is cheaper, so I just have to be patient if I choose to order it instead of going for instant pleasure by purchasing it at the store.
Looks like "horribly racist" Warbler and all the "non-judgmental" libs got their way at the same time! The guilty are Caucasian Muslims!
The whole racism debate here was ridiculous. Of course Warbler was rushing to conclusions with little evidence, but I get annoyed when others are so quick to condemn, then honestly make the same errors themselves. You who said this was a homegrown terrorist attack should be just as ashamed of yourselves as you believe Warbler should feel. If you feel no shame, neither should he. If you feel your own hasty judgments merit heavy guilt, then perhaps you are justified in your swift "corrections" of his statement. Hypocrisy is still hypocrisy, even if it's intended to make you feel like a tolerant, slow-to-judge, non-accusatory liberal. I get tired of the excuse that we can blame whites, males, and Americans because, well, you know they're all just so well off that it's okay. Prejudice is never okay.
For the sheltered, the guilty men are ethnic Chechen Muslims who immigrated 11 years ago. At present there is no known connection to an actual terrorist group, though that could change. This of course does not justify the condemnation of other Muslims or any other form of bigotry.

I like the what-ifs of Star Wars. As some of you know, I'm interested in a Star Wars that follows a different course, such as ANH, SOTME, and a different course. Well, the same goes for Trek. I really would love to see Xon developed further and a series with Decker. It wouldn't really match the present timeline, but there was a lot of cool stuff planned for the original Phase II. It would be neat if some fans made a series in that direction. These videos are an interesting insight.

Star Trek Continues: Yes, another fan Season 4, but this one has Jimmy Doohan's son as Scotty, Grant Imahara from Mythbusters as Sulu, and "Dr Trek" Larry Nemecek as Bones. There are a few vignettes (with another actor as Bones), but the first episode is in post-production now.
Very cool. I hadn't heard of this, but I'll have to check it out.
Trek.fm: A little self-promotion, but I'm the TOS Editor for this site, which means I'm supposed to be writing the episode guides, but it mostly means I'm on every few episodes of the main podcast to talk about a TOS episode. You can find a link to the episodes I'm on in my sig.
Shameless! J/K. I'll have to check it out :)
Oh brother. I wanted to contribute to the discussion, but by the time I got back to this thread, I have no interest in trying to be rational with how it's turned out. I'm happy for it to get back to the original topic.

In the real world, do they ever build only one of anything? Even NASA had an extra Skylab in case the first one didn't make orbit or something.
If there was another DS, what if you could justify capturing it and using it against a bigger threat? The debate over that could tear at the new Republic's fragile seams.
Well, it simply seems implausible given the other Star Wars lore surrounding the events of Tours. It seems to me that people just cram in so much stuff that Luke must have been off saving the Galaxy every single day since ANH, with two vacation days a month. And in spite of the Empire's swift collapse, in too many cases it has more resources at its disposal than the New Republic. It just feels inconsistent and unbelievable.
Maybe they changed it since the early days of the ride, but you could see the Death Star blow up on the cockpit monitor that showed Artoo and rebel pilots.

You can see it at 8:02
Of course you are correct. I've spent many hours staring at the main video, and I forgot about the other screens :/
Well, we have a Star wars v.s Star trek (sic) thread, a Star Trek into Darkness thread, a Star Trek: Renegades thread, a thread about the TNG Blu Rays (and some side discussion of humpback whales), some threads of Star Trek fan edits, but really we need an all inclusive Star Trek thread. I say this because lately my interest has been somewhat rekindled. I’ll always love Star Wars more, but Trek is still very special to me. It’s a very different sort of series to be compared so often to Star Wars. As others have said before, they satisfy different thirsts. So here I will mention the several thoughts on Trek that have been going through my mind lately.
Star Trek: Phase II - Very interesting looking fan efforts to use real but unrealized scripts to complete the original five year mission. Not to be confused with the aborted series with Xon, Decker, and Ilia (which honestly I wish had actually come to pass).
Star Trek: Renegades - Of Gods and Men really looks cool, and I’ve been meaning to watch it since twister111 first mentioned it. I’m excited about the upcoming Renegades.
Star Trek Into Darkness - I’m only lukewarm on ST09. There are lots of things I like about it, but then there are lots of things I don’t. But this new one looks really exciting. Saw the new trailers earlier today and they’ve got me thrilled! I am sad about the Trek we’ve lost, but this new Trek may be boldly going somewhere worthwhile as well.
Star Trek TOS - The BDs have both the new effects as well as the old. I’d like to get my hands on those so I can enjoy either way. Nice that we can get the special edition and the original in one package. Too bad not every sci-fi/fantasy series is commercially available in both forms, if you know what I mean.
Star Trek TNG - I believe this is my favorite series. But I’ll be honest, I never really have watched anything after it much. I hear DS9 got really cool with the Dominion War and explored themes that Roddenberry kinda kept off limits. I hope to get into that at some point. But TNG really is great.
I watched the first two edits by Biobicbob: The V’ger Incident and Perdition’s Flames. The idea is to edit the movies to match the Original Series, with commercial breaks and such, and it’s quite interesting as a result. This is probably the first time I’ve ever sat through a sitting of The Motion Picture (of course massive swathes of the original film are missing, but with no loss to the plot). I honestly enjoyed it fairly well…for the first time ever! Perdition’s Flames was interesting as well, though I prefer the original film. Still, the episodic feel was quite interesting. I’m looking forward to continuing the series.
Anyway, I had to get all my Trek thoughts out. What are yours?
UPDATE:

Star Trek Continues - a fan series that competes with the above Star Trek Phase II as a continuation of the first five year mission under Captain Kirk.
Well, I'll wait till we tally up a few more before I update it again, but I just watched the new Man of Steel trailer (very excited by the way), and Amy Adams is in it. She was raised Mormon, though she is no longer practicing. That also reminds me of another actor raised Mormon, but not currently practicing: Aaron Eckhart.
Now that I wrote that silly post, the DSIII is a fine example of why I hate Leland Chee's role. I'm sure he's a nice guy, but it's like if anything ever gets mentioned in some obscure source, he gives it credibility by creating an idea around it that almost canonizes it, then some other author puts in it a book and it actually attains canon status. Clearly the Death Star III was meant to be nothing more then escapist fantasy and an opportunity for the Star Tours patrons to feel like they're actually experiencing Star Wars and not just watching it, but thanks to Mr. Chee, it's probably only a matter of time before it becomes canon. It's a conspiracy, I tell ya!
We never actually saw the destruction of the Death Star in Star Tours. They launched the proton torpedoes and then immediately jumped to hyperspace. Since this was the third time 'round, you'd think the Empire learned their lesson, and perhaps that exhaust port was a dud to distract the Rebels. The real question is not if the Death Star III is still around, but where they are hiding it and when it will be unleashed upon the Galaxy???
DUN DUN DUNNNNNNN!!!
Adjusted. Hopefully I got it right this time ;)
Yes, but hopefully they don't spark debate...more just updates. Alright, it's a lousy excuse, I should have put them all in the politics thread. I'll remedy the situation.
