A moment of chastisement
Time

Well, as is typical for me, it looks like I've overreacted to some things.  I still find certain individuals to be reprehensible, but I overreacted to others.  Let me say thank you to so many who did in fact take a stand, even if they don't subscribe to the same beliefs that some of us do.  Possessed and Post Praetorian come to mind immediately, but I'm sure others of you did as well.  Sorry for my overreaction.

I guess as I've thought about it, though I was defending Warbler, I was also defending Jesus Christ.  You see, to me he is not just some guy.  He is not even some remote supernatural being.  I see him as a very dear friend, someone for whom I have a great deal of love.  You may criticize me, my beliefs, my church, its founder, its leaders, its doctrine, its scripture.  You may criticize similar things for broader Christianity.  But when you actually belittle the Man I love most in this universe, I really cannot take it.  It's not just being thin-skinned.  Most of you wouldn't take me insulting a family member.  This is much like that.  You don't have to believe in him, but please do not disrespect him.

When's the last time you read me post on the topics you mention?  I have defended the rights of LGBT here many times, and in person as well.  I can't recall the rights of atheists even coming up much, but I have defended them.  The only case I can think of is possibly the brief discussion of not allowing atheists in public office in the politics thread, in which case I said that I believed they should be permitted same as anyone.

But other than that, I appreciate your post.  Some of the thread was indeed directed at you, but not all.  And it's not even because I'm the victim that I started this, but more because Warbler is.  We are in an unmoderated part of the forum.  It has it's advantages, but when jerks like Scum and Id(iot) come along, the only moderation I see as possible is the intervention of friends for each other.  When some friends don't rush to the aid of others, I am disappointed.  It seems when jerks realize that they are alienating themselves, they stop.  When they know they're just getting under the skin of a few, they keep going.

But you may find the thread irksome.  I didn't find your thread irksome at all, so you know.  I got it was a joke.  What bothered me was the lack of intervention on behalf of Warbler (mostly) and others (myself included, but to a lesser degree). It is deeply insulting what they say, and I find it hard to want to stick around when everywhere I turn, I find insults and no one calling them on it.

I'm sorry you don't like my thread, and perhaps it is an overreaction, as I am prone to do at times, but I hope you see my reasoning.  It's not meant to slam just you, and reading your most recent post, I feel better about your stance as it is.

It would be a lot easier if I could just get back to Off Topic, which is continuously a challenge.  But rest assured, it will not be difficult to find how condescending you are when I've got the time to wrestle with this frustrating site.

Note that for some reason, once you're in a topic, it normally is okay.  It's trying to get to the various sub-forums where the greatest overall troubles seem to be.  Don't worry, you've got plenty of dirt that doesn't require much digging.

A VERY rough proof-of-concept for arranging the footage in such a way that I don't need to use the SE shot of the Falcon taking off...

(Password: fanedit.org)

I've taken two shots of Chewie and Han from later in ANH, reversed them, cropped the shot of Chewie and done a rough auto-chroma-key to add a random shot of a desert, animated to look as if the Falcon is lifting off. Obviously the finished shot would have the hangar bay and be matted by hand. Also I'd add SoundFX of Han rushing into the cockpit while the camera is on Chewie to really "sell" it and engine noises to properly time with the new sequence of shots.

Almost forgot, I retimed the shot of the Troopers so the Falcon flys away a little later.

I think this could work :-)

I agree, I think it could work great.  I think benduwan perhaps misunderstands your plans with the shot, as I find it brilliant and quite workable.  The internal aspects are all sound, and if you are able to pull off the matting of the external shots through the cockpit window, I think it would work perfectly!  Well done, as always. :)

Yeah, ignoring valid arguments is not a sign of idiocy.  Nor is flatly insulting and belittling others for their belief in God instead of simply disagreeing in a candid and respectful manner an indication of personal attacks.

"Look, I'm not personally attacking you.  I'm saying everyone who believes in God a moron, so don't take it personally."

You repeatedly make the same errors in your arguments and in your assertions that what you are doing is justifiable.

And you're still an idiot, but so is everyone else who thinks just like you, so don't take it personally.

Thank Baby Jeebus!

Hey, that's funny that you mockingly use an Ebonics pronunciation for Jesus.  That, and the fact that a larger percentage of blacks than whites are Christian and religious in general tells me that you think they must be a dumber race.  After all, only an idiot would believe in Jesus Christ, and a larger percentage of blacks in fact do!  Thank you for demonstrating your underlying racial beliefs.  They are shameful to be sure.

I love how we can discuss racism, but no matter the context, the N-word is such a no-no that a member of our forum practically gets yelled off the stage.

I love how an American can get called a racist for criticizing Islam, how Westerners are blamed for Islamic extremism, all here in Off Topic.

I love how Christians are bigots who believe that perhaps it is against God's will that homosexuality is an acceptable practice in his eyes, though they still defend the rights of homosexuals.

I love how if someone states that they are proud they waited till marriage to have sex, they are labeled as condescending and their words offending.

I love how if anyone defends the PT or states they prefer the SE of the OT, they got slammed by the majority of this site.

And yet....

Many of those same members who are so sensitive about homosexuals, Muslims, African-Americans, chastity till marriage, and the OOT that it disallows any rational discussion or exception to any "rules" will be the same people who will slam a Christian who gets offended when others deliberately go out of their way to insult their faith and mock the things most sacred to them.  Many of the same members will in fact demonstrate their bigotry and engage in the same practice.  And many of the same members will do nothing to stand up for the rights of those who simply wish to express their faith.

There have been some real jerks here in Off Topic of late.  I have probably never been so disappointed in so many patrons here, and I've never seen the bigotry of the likes of Darth Id and imperialscum so readily accepted.  It frustrates me further that this site is so finicky that I cannot even properly respond most of the time.

So many of you have disappointed me and let me down.  You probably don't even care and think I'm too sensitive.  But the fact remains, that you have tolerated bigotry because it wasn't a demographic you cared about.  I really am at a point where Bingowings and I will probably be in the same boat, and I really won't care if it makes many of you sad or thrilled.  Perhaps he and I will resume conversation in the Fan Edits and Preservations sections, which is about the only place on the forum I will be visiting soon.  This place sucks, and you jerks who think it's acceptable to belittle another for their faith suck.

Awfully god-damned presumptuous to state so simplistic [sic] what Baal does or doesn't "bust a fat-ass nut" on.  However, it's sure as shit that you get off on shittin' all over other people's comforting delusions behind the anonymity of your "Back to Mono" pin.  You are a cunt-smacking bitch-licker, and filthy cur too!

Gotcha.  Whatevs.  Bored as heck now.

NUUUUUUUUUTS!

Hey, I appreciate your censoring my inadvertent lapses into "gutter French," but maybe you should think of cleaning up your own sticky little typing fingers?

Funny how you take issue with my censoring (as I'd rather not see those words more than necessary) and completely ignore what I say.  You really are a clever chap, aren't you?

Not the best constructed set of words Ender ;-)

Yeah, I knew that'd be controversial.  Let me rephrase.  I am confident that I am genuinely more intelligent than, say, 70% of the world, atheists and theists alike.  But in spite of what is above average intelligence, I also know there is much to learn from everyone, and I try not to let what I believe is likely factual interfere with the equally factual truth that I can learn something from everyone, even those perhaps less intelligent, and definitely from those who disagree.

God cannot be proved, he/she just has to be literally "Taken on faith", so I think some non-believers see that as a foolish thing. But they are forgetting that God can't be disproved either. So it's not about intelligence, it's about belief.

I understand that atheists have a hard time taking things on faith.  But there are so many who consider even the possibility ignorance, while in fact doing that very same thing when they hear their professor say that some brilliant scientists did some research that proves something amazing.  Did they do the research?  Did they even read about it firsthand?  No, too many atheists are condescending ignoramuses.

As I recall, I made several points you did not address adequately or intelligently at all:

http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Religion/post/751778/#TopicPost751778

Discussion began in the Random Thoughts thread, but continued with the above link, but the site is so slow and frustrating right now that I cannot provide an exact link and have to get to a training in moments.

Oh, an imperialscum, you're still an idiot.

1) God created the dinosaurs with their vicious teeth and claws and was content to watch them maim and gore one another for millions of years before finally getting around to bringing about Adam & Eve.

This was my favorite part of your overall very entertaining dissection of that hack CS Lewis' apologia.

I ruminate on this frequently--not with respect to a "god's" unlikely role, but just about the dinosaurs.  How absolutely absurd is it that so many millions of years passed with nothing on Earth but witless giant monsters savaging each other?  It trips me out to no end.

You know, I am not an unintelligent person.  I have some education (no graduate degree I admit, but I have three undergrad degrees), I read a great deal on a variety of topics, I debate, I philosophize.  I daresay I am smarter than many atheists.  But I also try to maintain a sense of humility and openness that I may learn from others, and I have had great conversations with many who do not believe in God.  However, Darth Id is one of the primary examples of the kind of atheists that I could never enjoy talking to.  There seems to be this arrogance that fills the hearts of so many of them, whether they truly are intelligent or not, that somehow they are smarter than their foolish theistic peers.  Can they argue, can they entertain differing viewpoints simultaneously, can they say they've even engaged in debate from a standpoint that is not their own in order to better understand the opposition?  No.  Instead they come to their conclusions, often in the beginning just as a form of rebellion against their parents' generation, learn a few things from a single narrow view, and simply take sarcastic remarks belittling the intelligence of others as a mark of their own wits.  Yes, we live in a world of a bunch of John Stewart wannabes, where poorly devised humor replaces actual intelligent response.  Well done, Id.  You are now in the presence of intellectual giants like imperialscum and millions of other college-age nobodies who've never devoted more than two brain cells to come to the conclusions of their lack of belief.  We're glad you stopped by.
