What do you HATE about the EU?
Time

TheBoost said (in a different thread): I understand why Chewie died. How exciting is a series of books where you know for a fact no matter where the story goes and what happens, the status quo for the core dozen characters will never ever change?

This is exactly what I hate about the Jedi and Sith in the EU. Whether the story takes place in 5000 BBY or 5000 ABY, you know from the beginning exactly how the Sith will rise, what the Sith will acheive, and how the Sith will fall.

Every single time:

1. Jedi and Republic are complacent and believe the Sith to be extinct.
2. The Sith, who were defeated long ago, corrupt someone, wipe out the Jedi, and take over the galaxy.
3. The Sith are betrayed by a high-up apprentice, saving the day.

And it wouldn't have happened, either, if it wasn't for Disney's intervention! The only thing left to do now, of course, is to bring the OUT out of its moratorium.

I agree. This will be all worth it if Disney releases the OUT. Even if the sequels totally suck.

Exactly. The PT-OT war will end when that happens.

The EU is another matter entirely.  It's not a single entity (or in this case three) being squelched and damaged by a single individual who has no checks & balances.  The EU is a 35-year-old ongoing collection of works by over fifty individuals.  That will forever be a pick and choose as to what you accept or don't accept.

It'd still be nice for me to read something new involving the Sith that didn't blatantly hit me over the head with prequelisms.

Agreed. This is why I'll always see the decision to set KOTOR so close to TOTJ as a jump the shark.

Why not make the Hutt Empire the main adversary of the ST? It'd be interesting to see the Hutts invade the fragmented Empire/burgeoning New Republic and try to take control of their worlds. Frankly, it'd also be cool to see armies made up of Hutts who like this

This is a brilliant idea, duracell! I cannot put into words how much I love this idea!

You two have a strange sense of taste. This looks utterly ridiculous to me.

Our tastes are different, not strange. There's nothing strange about a difference of opinion.

I think Empire as an enemy is completely out of scope for EP7. After 30 years even the imperial remnant would die off.

Part of the Empire could have gone into hiding.

The sequels need to bring back the tension of the originals, but I don't exactly know how they'll do that given that the antagonists were soundly defeated in Return of the Jedi.

That's only true for the SE. The theatrical version leaves it up to the individual to decide for him/herself if the entire Empire was defeated in the Battle of Endor if it merely was the battle that spelled the beginning of the end for the Empire.

It's been confirmed that as far as the state of the Empire is concerned, what we saw in 1997 was always the intent (even if intent isn't canon). Of course, they could change their mind, but I don't find that very likely.

Anyway, something that went wrong is that lightsaber duels became all about "epicness" wih no emotion and disconnected characters.
