The prequel Jedi robes may be extremely ugly but I'm pretty sure that (aside from the higher cut required for wire-fu) they were essentially what Lucas envisioned for the Jedi uniform when he made SW 1977.

Just like "padawan" was in Lucas's very first notes and the concept of midichlorians existed in the 70s. Certain ideas are dropped for a reason, and when an idea is dropped for a reason, it shouldn't be brought back.

We need a dramaturge. Someone with mad EU skillz, who can dig through the pile and find those bits of gold, moments, facts, characters, history that will add to TPM, especially from the pre-existing retellings of TPM across different media. Make a dumping ground for useful bits, possibly also a google doc.

Here's some things that I know:

1. Palpatine proposed the taxes that the Trade Federation is mad about and Sidious told the Trade Federation that blockading and invading Naboo would be revenge upon Palpatine.

2. Plagueis, as Hego Damask, encouraged the Republic to ignore the needs of some planets so that those planets would join the CIS.

3. If Sith history is mentioned, make the Rule of Two something that existed before the "extinction" of the Sith. That way Yoda knowing about the Rule of Two makes sense.

I certainly hope they don't stick him in brown desert hermit bathrobes. Stick with the ROTJ look or go with something new, just don't continue the stupid "Jedi dress like moisture farmers" BS.

Wasn't Anakin wearing those same desert robes at the end of ROTJ?  Why would he be wearing them?

I prefer to think he took on that appearance because he knew Luke associated it with Ben, and wanting to appear as benign and non-threatening to his son as possible, choose to appear to Luke in that form even though he never wore those clothes in life.

I would like to throw in a reminder here that the various scripts for SW 1977 actually specify that Jedi do wear robes of some sort, and that black robes are reserved for Sith Lords. Somehow the idea has come up that "the Jedi uniform" is actually the all-black costume Luke wore in ROTJ: an idea that really only dates to the making of ROTJ (Marvel Comics aside) and wasn't in full force even then.

I frankly suspect that the TPM concept art featuring Jedi in all-black outfits looks so cool to so many fans that it's become a piece of retrospective alternate-universe canon or something. (Which I can totally understand--TPM is a terrible movie but the concept artists for it cranked out some amazing stuff.)

Even if that's true, shouldn't Luke's Jedi be different from Yoda's? It's a new master with new experiences. And just because the Jedi were supposed to have robes doesn't mean that they were supposed to dress like Tatooinians.

I've never been fond of how KOTOR handled the Tusken-Jawa relationship. One race evolves into two new -- apparently incompatible -- species in the mere span of thousands of years?  I'm not buying it.

I agree 100%. What we're told in KOTOR sacrificed logic in order to tie two things together. In addition to not giving a date, the ANH novel says that only a few scientists believe that there's any connection between Tuskens and Jawas. The movie never gave me the impression that they're related.

Also, what horror visuals are in TOTJ?

This isn't good or bad in my opinion, but I've noticed that the ANH novelization is full of information that became important in JAT, TOTJ, KOTOR, and DOTJ. It's mentioned that Tatooine once had water, that Jawas and Tusken Raiders are thought to have a common ancestor, and that the Yavin temple was built by a species with amazing construction techniques that mysteriously vanished.

The original intent was that one would be spoilers and images and the other would be general speculation on what JJ might do but they have seemed to have merged.

It would make sense to have a spoiler free and spoilerific thread for people who don't like their spoilers...spoiled.

Which thread is for spoilers?

When it comes to fictional universes that are set in outer space, I like it when most of space is left uncharted and mysterious; it makes the universe feel immense, that just about anything can be found if one only travels far enough beyond the horizon.

But when most of that space has been charted, explored, and colonized, it makes the universe feel small and too familiar; it makes it so that it feels like everything worth discovering has been discovered, that there is nothing of any great importance left to find.

In that case, I think you'll be happy to hear that in the ANH novelization, Vader contemplates how the galaxy is so big that the destruction of Alderaan is insignificant.
