I've read the first two issues of Tales of the Jedi (the introductory mini-series is called Golden Age of the Sith).

Pretty good so far. I know Anderson gets a lot of flack, but I'm no sure why yet. Here's rooting for Jori and Gav!

KJA gets a lot of flack for his stuff that's set during the movies and/or after ROTJ, but his ancient galactic history stuff is a different story. He created a lot of the history of the Republic, Jedi, Sith, Mandalorians, etc. Let me know when you're introduced to the Sith in the comics you're reading.

Star Wars: Rogue One - * Non Spoiler Discussion Thread *

It's being reported that at least some of Rogue One will shoot on Arri's new 6k, 65mm-sized model of Alexa camera. But that's not all! These 65mm shots will use the 1.25x anamorphic Ultra Panavision lens recently revived by Quentin Tarantino and Robert Richardson for The Hateful Eight, which they shot on actual 65mm film.

Ultra Panavision (2.20:1 65mm film with a 1.25x squeeze) yields an extremely wide aspect ratio of 2.76:1. There were only a literal handful of films made in this format before it was abandoned, Ben-Hur probably being the most well-known example. Several years back I actually got to see an anamorphic 70mm print of the last Ultra Panavision film, Khartoum, which was released in 1966 and also happens to star Charlton Heston.

Gareth Edwards and his cinematographer Greig Fraser are clearly fans of the more old-fashioned formats, as they shot last year's Godzilla movie in panavision/cinemascope with 2x anamorphics using the alexa 4:3.

I wonder how much of Rogue One will shoot in this digital "equivalent" of Ultra Panavision and if the movie will shift to the ultra wide AR at certain points. Maybe they'll crop those shots to 2.40:1 while still taking advantage of the added resolution and detail?

Prequel fans: "How dare they film in more than 1080P."

"The RGB colour scheme of the prequels"? The OT only had RGB, the PT added colours like yellow and purple into the mix. Of course Dark Forces II predates the PT, so technically they borrowed it from the EU.

I consider the RGB colour scheme a product of the PT because the OT never officially established red, green, and blue as being the only lightsaber colours anyone was allowed to use. Sure, those are the only lightsaber colours which make an appearance in the OT, but there are also only three lightsaber wielders in the entire trilogy, so there wasn't any opportunity to showcase a larger spectrum of colours in those films.

As for yellow and purple lightsabers appearing in the PT:

1. Only Windu -- out of all the Jedi/Sith in the movies -- has a purple lightsaber. He's basically the exception that proves the rule.

2. There are no yellow lightsabers in the PT. Yellow lightsabers made their first "canon" appearance in TCW.

Also, if you're going to argue for RGB based on the OT, shouldn't you be arguing for RB based on ANH and ESB?

What's wrong with Palpy being a Sith? Just curious, nothing against him not being a Sith.

Any time you take a character, and say "WAIT! There's a whole class of characters just like them!" it lessens that character.

Greedo comes from a species of all bounty hunters.

Jabba comes from a species of all crime lords.

Palpy comes from a club of evil wizards.

Boba comes from a planet of bad ass whatever he is (retconned at some point).

It makes them boring.

This. This is what Duracell and I have been trying to say. It's much more awesome when you come up with your ideology and become a badass without anyone else's help. Furthermore, Palpatine doesn't seem like the type of person who would identify with anything that he didn't create.

I think I mind the Jedi robes least of everyone on this forum. Yeah, the reason for them is wrong. But having such modest monk-like clothing for a group that is (supposed to be) divorcing themselves from their emotions is not the worst.

Mainly, I'd be concerned of what they would come up with if they decided to go all out designing Jedi uniforms. It could be much worse if they went for something like an 80's Who Gallifreyan aesthetic.

They could've just gone with what they'd already established in 1983.

After all, that's what Chiang did. Chiang's concept art had the Jedi wear what Luke wears in ROTJ.

With the current lack of new "Darth" so-and-so names in official material and plot rumors I'm thinking they're going to go light on prequel terminology and rules.

Thank god. After years of an EU that gave everything and its mother prequel terminology and rules, it will be wonderful to see that wretched stuff left far behind.

What do you HATE about the EU?
Time

In TPM, Yoda knows about the Rule of Two, implying that the Rule of Two existed before the "extinction" of the Sith. However, the EU then said that the birth of the Rule of Two and the "extinction" of the Sith occured at the same time, creating a plot hole. The fans, in their zeal to love anything EU and hate anything prequel, convinced themselves and each other that TPM itself created this plot hole when in truth it was the EU.

I've been on a Star Wars audiobook kick at work lately, and I've been listening to Zahn's Thrawn Trilogy which I read years ago, and man is it some lazy writing. I hate that.

All the characters say are lines paraphrased or just pulled directly from the movies. And all the new characters are huge Mary-Sues. I've never rolled my eyes more while reading or listening to a book in my entire life. It's just lazy, hackey writing.

If there's one thing that the prequels did right, it's that they didn't use Zahn's consecutive vowels = clone nonsense.
