Erik Bauersfeld, voice of Admiral Ackbar & Bib Fortuna, dead at 93
Time

Sad news.

I actually really like this part of the article:
“The fans who write say they’ll never forget ‘It’s a trap!’ I don’t even remember how I said it,” an amused Bauersfeld told The San Francisco Chronicle in 2011. “It’s not that I don’t like it or don’t respect it. I just don’t have time to be a fan and see it 10 times or 20 times.”

Very cool that he could completely respect the fans (never turned down an autograph request) while being very upfront about his disconnect from star wars as a whole. It was just a job, but one that impacted a lot of people.

“Everything” is the correct answer. I will break it down a bit, however:

  1. The characters.
Terribly written and awfully acted. Mace Windu, Yoda and to a lesser extent Obi-Wan are a bunch of dull monks. Grievous is silly. Palpatine is way over the top. Anakin is less awful to watch than he was in the last movie, but his transformation is handled very poorly. Also: Darth Vader is now a child-killer, yet his mentor and his wife still kinda like the guy.

  2. The story.
Most of the time it feels like George had a checklist of stuff that needs to happen in the PT and only got around to using it by the time he started making the third film. Having said that, the PT doesn’t even tie in to the OT very well and introduces a lot of continuity errors. I also hate how every surviving character (except for Chewbacca) ends up in the exact same place where they are found 20 years later.

  3. The little things.
They had the same actor who portrayed Palpatine in ROTJ. They could have take advantage of that and with some very mild make-up work he could really become a 20 years younger version of the same character. Instead they chose to glue an awful Halloween mask on his face.
The two lightsaber duels lack any suspence whatsoever. I never found out why the Yoda vs. Palpatine duel was even in the film.

I disagree with everything in this post.

1.) Grievous is an epic villain. His role as a cyborg foreshadows Anakin’s future role as a cyborg while he is Darth Vader. The lightsaber duels with Grievous are epic. Almost all of the characters

2.) First you criticize the characters for being in the same position they are in at the beginning of A New Hope, but then you criticize it for not being continuous with the Original Trilogy. Which is it?

3.) Aging in and of itself could not explain Palpatine’s transformation of appearance into the Emperor.

I agree with these parts of your post:

  1. Almost all of the characters

Star Wars: Rogue One - * Non Spoiler Discussion Thread *
Time

I have the same questions and concerns as you do. It seems very odd that there isn’t any promotion of the movie going on.

I just searched and this was the most recent thing i could find? http://www.slashfilm.com/star-wars-rogue-one-previewed/

Seems to still be happening. I guess we can expect a strong marketing push in May perhaps? just my guess.

I forget where exactly, but I saw an excerpt from an interview with Filoni the other day where he said that if those aren’t the last inquisitors we’ll see, they’re the next to last. He talked a bit about how as they get closer in the timeline to ANH, they’re trying to play more and more by the OT’s rules, and that everyone thinks there’s no place in that era for the inquisitor characters.

Was it this? http://m.ign.com/articles/2016/03/31/star-wars-rebels-dave-filoni-on-ahsokas-fate-mauls-return-and-much-more

Thanks for the tip to make me search for this, certainly an interesting read, I really respect what they are doing with rebels.

I managed to watch the finale. Gotta say, it was actually pretty good. I particularly liked seeing those inquisitors

SPOILERS!!!

buy the farm; they were utterly lousy villains and I was happy to see each one of them die undignified deaths.

On first glance I thought you were saying you liked the inquisitors…

I agree I was quite happy to see each of them die, hopefully never to return?

Hi,

Sorry about This confusing post but I just need to know This. If Leia Organa and Luke are siblings and Han Solo has had a child with Leia named Kylo Ren, how in the world Darth Vader would be a grandfather to Kylo Ren? As in the movie Kylo Ren talked to the damaged helmet of Darth Vader and referred him as a grandfather. If This post is a spoiler I’m terribly sorry.

Truly, you have a dizzying intellect.

I’ve gotten to the main fight between Obi and Ani and I’m really stumped for anything new to do here. Other than cutting out as much as possible in order to keep in brief, I don’t have any good ideas for how to make it worthwhile.

Here’s a continuous clip of the various pieces for reference. (start at about 2:00)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=40HhaIJ0QVw

Any ideas?

I don’t know if i have any ideas, and the ones i have probably will be hard to do, but:

when they start spinning their light-sabers around really fast, it always sounded like a helicopter to me, and it would be pretty fitting if they took off into the air a bit

there must be something that could be done with the force kicks that anikin gives Obiwan, perhaps have him bounce back like he was tied to anikin (like a paddle ball?)

I humbly suggest you download the 5.1 track from my LD audio archive as a replacement. It’s fully synchronized and it hasn’t been re-encoded, as adywan’s original was.

Do you mean original as in adywan’s ISO, or as in his Fixed audio patch as well? Just confused as it sounds like you are saying the fixed audio is still subpar.

Someone uploaded this to the spleen, but it isn’t clear yet if it includes the fixed 5.1 LD audio track. Is there a way for me to check the file to figure this out? I am guess not, but wanted to ask since i like being proven wrong in cases like this. checksums of the files would help, looking back in time i wish all releases included them.

Future me knows that this is the Fixed audio version.

Are you sure you want to use de-interlacing? You’re effectively throwing away half the resolution and filling in what’s missing with what’s left.

yeah i second this. de-interlacing rarely improves quality. and if we are playing back on TVs, you won’t notice the interlacing if you have proper hardware. I hate interlacing, but once you have it, better to stick with it.

Totally understand if you can’t do your video editing this way though, your call.

It’s been a while since my last post, but I just wanted to share some ESB:R related material with you all. I came across a small clip of Adywan from the Fan-edit documentary “Fanarchy” that someone posted on youtube. It’s only three minutes long, but it introduces Adywan to us and his work on ESB:R.

SPOILER ALERT There are 3 new scenes in this clip at the 2:43 minute mark.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2TDCCHlErl0

I had already seen the entire documentary, but I wanted to share this small clip with you all. I hope you enjoy it.

Cool thanks for sharing

Yeah, it’s confusing and we don’t have all the details. But, if you look at any torrent that’s deleted by the uploader, it is clearly stated as such in that log.

Edit: well now I do have the details and I was correct.

I don’t like this turn of events. not good reasons for deleting torrents.

Apart from the Italian dubbing, the big difference is that there is no Buck Rogers and it begins with the end, with THX in the car with voice over saying something like: this is the future and I’m escaping. Here is my story. It then goes to the beginning of the plot and takes up with THX climbing out of the tunnel.

Thanks for the explanation (and everyone else !).
