Episode IV: A Ridiculous Hope
Time

DominicCobb said:

SE. It’s supposed to be ridiculous, right? I’m sure there’s stuff there you could play with. Han v Greedo could be a shootout. Or Greedo could repeatedly shoot at Han and he keeps dodging.

i just had this thought and figured someone already did so i searched and found this. I think that the Han shoots first scene will be pretty key to do well, since it is so well known. i like the idea of repeated missed shots. i also like the idea of repeated misfires, where Greedo pulls out his blaster but it doesn’t fire. cut to Han fidgeting with his blaster, then back to Greedo pulling out his blaster again (with no fire). Han basically is a little ‘too cool’ and doesn’t react until well past the point of possible harm to himself.

where there already better ideas for this scene? sorry if i missed them.

If you spent your entire life fighting to preserve a democratic republic only to discover your husband ushered in a violent dictatorship which oppress your future children indefinitely, losing the will to live is a natural response.

A natural response when you have two newborns? Padme was a bitch then with no care for the two helpless young children that would be left without a mother just because she cares more about someone she knew was a psycho all along. Nothing supernatural about it either, no matter what stupid theories fans like to come up with. Lucas himself said that she died of a broken heart and lost the will to live, so there’s the official explanation - Padme really was a selfish bitch.

When you have children of your own you realise just how much you will fight for them no matter what you have been through. There is no way you would leave them parentless.

MEDICAL DROID: Medically, she is completely healthy. For reasons we can’t explain, we’re losing her.
OBI-WAN: She’s dying?
MEDICAL DROID: We don’t know why. She has lost the will to live.

Although the medical droid states Padmé lost the will to live, it never states that the loss of the will to live is the only cause of her death. On the contrary, it states that Padmé is dying “for reasons we can’t explain.” Losing the the will to live was not the primary cause of Padmé’s death; it was only the subsidiary cause. The primary cause was something inexplicable and supernatural. Presumably Palpatine withdrew the Living Force from Padmé to save Anakin’s life, which is why if you listen closely Padmé’s heart stops beating the moment Anakin’s heart starts beating again.

The droid says she is completely healthy and the only thing mentioned is her losing the will to live. Nowhere does it point to any supernatural cause, thats just fanwank. And were we watching the same film? Vader doesn’t die so his heart never stops beating so how could his heart start beating again?

So you would have preferred for Padmé to have survived and said, “I will take Leia and live with her on Alderaan. I don’t care about Luke though. He can go live with his aunt and uncle on Tatooine”?

Well, it does make a lot of sense to separate them. They’d both be very valuable to the Empire if they should ever learn their true identity, so having them both in the same place could be potentially disastrous. She wouldn’t have abandoned Luke, but rather left him in the care of a trusted friend for his own safety. This is still technically what happened in the current post-PT canon, Yoda and Obi-Wan decided to separate them for their own safety, with the intention of re-uniting them at some point when they were older.

It would make logical sense to separate them, but it would not make emotional sense for a new mother. If Padmé was still alive, she never would have agreed to that. It would have been out of character.

How is it out of character for a senator? that is about all we know of her character.

I think some continuity would be preferred. it doesn’t have to be the option you presented. If George Lucas had this all mapped out i wouldn’t have to figure out a way to preserve continuity.

Until a tentative release date is announced, the official response will be that they have no plans regarding the material.

Lucasfilm tends to keep things close to the vest, so I doubt they’re going to spill the beans on any release plans.

I still think this article is typical modern-day journalism and wouldn’t take the word of some random “source” seriously, but even if they did talk to someone who was qualified to say what they said, there is still the point that why would they say anything other than “we have no plans” until they actually have concrete plans and a release date set in stone. and even then they would not say anything until a press release came out.

Help Wanted: '2001: A Space Odyssey' - 35mm Preservation (original 1968 prints obtained) (* unfinished project *)
Time

Thanks guys. i guess from the description of the state of the film (bad fading) i wasn’t sure if getting a better than dvd or bluray image quality was an actual goal of the project, i guess it is?

My reasons for asking are mainly because i am wondering if i feel like supporting this project or not. Not judging, just trying to decide how much i personally care.

It has definitely NOT been cancelled. Our corporate offices are currently preparing web posts with updated information about the show. […] Due to slightly bizarre screening legalities, the STAR WARS films cannot be played at primary movie-screening venues like the Alamo so that’s why we are forced to think a bit outside the box on this one.

Tickets will go on sale sometime on May 4; we don’t have an exact time pinned down for that quite yet.

When we know more specifics, we’ll be sure to let everyone know. But it’s still moving forward, so fear not! For that is the path to the Dark Side. 😉

Did I miss a post this was responding to, saying the screenings are cancelled?
Because that is what I found out today.

I was going to post in this thread earlier because I work for a (non-Alamo) theater, and we were set to screen all of the films.
The story is Lucasfilm said no when they heard Fox has ok’d these screenings (apparently without consent from Lucasfilm).
How it is even possible to make a “mistake” at that level, no one knows.
Again, my theater isn’t part of Alamo. However, we absolutely obtained the right to screen the films through the appropriate channels (the only channel). Only they didn’t check first with Lucasfilm??

Sorry to be bearer of bad news, but I doubt anyone - including Alamo chain - is going to be screening the films.

Well i think there is way too much “i think” type of commenting going on, thats why i contacted Alamo directly. (I guess you may have a better insight than some as you work at a movie theater, but you are still just reporting hearsay) Until i hear otherwise, i am going to assume that they are still trying to find a way to screen this. That is why they are picking non-movie theater locations.

So i really like this film, but i am a bit confused on this project (and the fact that most of the discussion is about film grain didn’t help). You state that the primary purpose of the preservation is the 4-track audio. Is there any real point to scanning the film then, not just the audio? especially considering its state? i have it on dvd. just curious.

Who’s “a person familiar with the matter”? They could’ve pulled a hobo off the street to say that.

precisely.

I doubt very much any journalist actually went out and got an up to date statement. thats not how journalism works for the most part. They are just repeating the ‘common knowledge’, which will be true up until the moment that it isn’t.

Not that i think they are about to release the OOT, but one can hope.

Honestly have no idea which side people are on with this hand holding thing but I’d like to just mention something people tend to forget which is Rey’s a loner, or at least fancies herself one. I figure that has more to do with the “don’t hold my hand” than anything else.

Watching J.J.'s film my interpretation was that this was funny that a white girl wouldn’t want a black guy to keep bugging her. It was a throwback. Not PC. I thought it was hilarious.

uh, no. i think you must be trolling. it was quite simply a running joke about how Finn has a savior complex and thinks he is helping Rey, when really she is the one helping him. they picked it up again in the rathtar scene where she shut the door on the rathar, saving finn. Finn didn’t know this, and Rey didn’t tell him either, “That was lucky”. there is nothing in the film to suggest anything about race being involved in their interactions.

Harmy's RETURN OF THE JEDI Despecialized Edition HD - V3.1
Time

Lol. Well, there is a certain level of happiness in not being annoyed by low quality video I suppose. :-p

Once you start noticing issues it’s hard to stop. But if I had worked as hard as Harmy on creating a high quality release, I would be bugged seeing such low quality encodes associated with me.

Edit: cellphone typos.
