WTF People? class it up.
WTF People? class it up.
You know, ANH: Revisited was what brought me into this. Sorry to hear about Adywan’s choice, but at least i can still follow his projects via other means, it is amazing work he does.
JEDIT: *this means this site, not this discussion, which i am certainly out of the loop on
I just had a chance to look through your changes gallery. very impressive work Towne! Thank you for this!
Much better. 😃
Sadly it doesn’t take much magnitude
Very nice!
I did a fan commentary for TFA with a friend, it got posted this week.
may want to fix ‘weather’, unless you really did discuss the weather 😉
Return of the Jedi had a blue tint inherent to the film, which I believe your algorithm removes entirely. That wouldn’t be proper, right? Someone feel free to correct me on this.
No, this print had a blue tint, that Harmy corrected to the point that the film is watchable. I just noticed a pretty strong green tint during the space sequences.
Dre, do you have any plans to try to color correct this with your algorithm?
I love 3D
Well I guess 3d is like cilantro. Some love it, but to others it tastes like soap.
I don’t like it, and I really shouldn’t have a problem with others liking it, but it does affect me somewhat because the imax near my house tends to always show features in 3d, and rarely in 2d. So I almost never go anymore, and I miss the big screen and powerful sound.
This is probably the main reason I dislike 3d so much, it like a virus taking over cinema.
Harmy, I just realized that the filesize on your NFO/OP is wrong, not sure if you feel like updating the OP: it looks like you copied the filesize from the 2.5 DE release. should be 21.3 GB.
(sorry to bump an old thread for such a silly reason, but might as well be right for future readers…)
One way or another, putting hope on the “profit” is delusional. As I already said, LF is making billions with each new film. Several millions of profits from potential release of theatrical versions is not even worth a consideration (profit-wise).
Not as delusional as using quotation marks for no reason.
+“1”
Did I “do” that right?
Also, I am glad that is a real site, looks like good entertainment next time I am stuck somewhere.
The official Blu-ray has Seamless Branching too - between the Spanish and English versions of the Crawl - and there is no shortage of projects (or MKV files) based on that…
just wanted to say that i also applaud your choice of release format. i am sure someone will mkv it and that version will also be shared, but it is nice that you are putting out a disk ready version instead of us having to wait for someone else to do it at questionable quality.
I bought a 40" 4k TV and immediately noticed the difference.
I too noticed the difference. It definitely isn’t an SD-to-HD jump, but it is beautiful stuff. I will say that I really just love the depth of color on all of these new 4K TVs, with HDR and everything. The higher resolution is nice, but the color on a 4K OLED TV with an HDR Blu-Ray is unreal (or more real, I guess).
I love my current 1080p plasma from Samsung, but I won’t be buying another TV until I can get a 4K OLED screen for a decent price.
I too have a Samsung plasma which I love. I hope to never buy an LCD TV, but wait for better tech like oled or something else
4K seems to me like a useless waste of resources. The difference between 480p, 720p and 1080p is visible even at distance, but I won’t even notice something is 4K unless a person tells me.
Just like high frame rates, I think this thing has more potential in videogames. In movies, it’s kinda useless.
today me agrees with you. but i am sure two years in the future both of us will have changed our minds.
when we are approximating reality with video, it will forever fall short of the thing it is approximating until perhaps someday we reach the point that displays are manipulating individual atoms to recreate every single wavelength of light that the original scene emited. and even then we might ralize that there is more involved than just light.
every step forward we are amazed at how good something is, and our brains are so great at filling in gaps that we really do think it is perfect. but after long exposure we start to see the flaws.
for the forseable future at least, i think it is safe to assume that current tech will always go obsolete.
the sad result of this is that at some point, long after all originals are decayed and gone, the 8k and 4k remasters done today will be nit so impressive, and we will wish we could go back and redo the scans but we can’t. by happy(?) coincidence, by that time most people who saw the original films probably wont be around, so no one will really care like we care now.
(sorry, rambling before i have had my coffee…)
Edit again: Despecialized 2.7 builds off of 2.6 with additional color changes, mostly removing some green from the desert and Death Star. Additionally, the “A Long Time Ago” card is a cleaned up version from the Silver Screen Edition (SSE). It also features Catbus’s excellent Greedo subtitles that were derived from the SSE, and Darth Lucas rotoscoped the lightsaber blade in Ben’s hut from the SSE. This version has better video quality as I used Harmy’s lossless encodings. It features a Hindi track and Project Threepio v9.1 subtitles.
Just noticed this update on first post. Threepio v9.2 was released a few weeks back (2016-04-06), if you haven’t already, i would suggest including those subtitles before releasing this. (should be a very quick change?)
This is all quite possible. Also, even if an official release doesn’t happen, maybe some 35mm fan-preservations may come out, which will make Despecialized unnecessary.
And then you can enjoy your well deserved rest. I imagine it would be nice to reach a point where you can wrap the DE projects up with a bow and set it aside for good.
Yeah. I know I’ve been saying ‘soon’ for a while. But I think I’ve managed to get the comparison shots completed so it should actually be quite soon.
just curious what the state of this is. i am fine to wait, but i also wanted to bring this thread back from the last 2 pages of offtopickiness
by the time 3.0 is finished, i am sure 4K will be commonplace.
You think it’ll take him that long?
2 or 3 years i wouldn’t be suprised. and all it takes is for the OT to get a 4k release and suddenly people will be asking why DE isnt 4k. it will be 720p/1080p all over again. and then we will decide that the colors are all wrong and add more teal/orange 😉
by the time 3.0 is finished, i am sure 4K will be commonplace.
you sure?
its not bad for 5 contributors. but yes its just a start.
good idea that
I can’t wait for this! I’m checking the spleen like every 5 minutes.
no wonder its always ‘under heavy load’
try checking only every 8 minutes :p
…it’s been real quiet for over a month…my guess is Mike had a heart attack from all the stress of the project…
Not funny.
I thought it was funny. Partly because the “other” project I’m on nearly HAS given me a heart-attack. 😃
Legacy is slowly moving up the chain. Executives are nervous, skittish creatures.
Literally buzzing with excitement!
Unless you’re a bee, you used it wrong.
And if you are a bee, i think i finally understand why honey bees are dying off.
…
“They lost the will to live.” <- that is the answer.
Compared to this site’s About and Help sections… your version of soon is lightning fast!
When Greedo shoots Han, the laser goes back and forth on the two walls Han and Greedo were sitting behind before it hits Greedo.
I like this. Cut out all of the shots of Han preparing his gun entirely and make sure that it’s very clear that it’s Greedo’s shot ricocheting back into himself, and not Han firing. Also also cut out “Yes, I bet you have”.
Yeah i like that as well
