Nice news update! Looking forward to the 97se’s and more 😃
Nice news update! Looking forward to the 97se’s and more 😃
Sounds exciting, I wish you all the best!
i just recently grabed these hopeing to use them as a starting point for njvc’s bluray set. source files are Adobe Illustrator, and some referenced Photoshop files. it took me forever to try to track down fonts though. the “make your own” set includes lots of source files, but apparently not the right fonts or all the linked artwork for illustrator. or else my computr is just being weird.
you can import the .ai files into inkscape, which is what i am ending up doing. still need the correct fonts installed first or it substitutes them and looks horrible. at least inkscape / svg format allows for embedding of the fonts used.
PHILDESFR, any chance you still have the source files in their entirety, and could save as SVG 1.1 for each of these?
That’s not the case for all extras, just the smaller ones which are grouped on a single timeline to save space. But there is a popup menu attached to every timeline so getting back to the menus is easy.
Ahh yeah see, you are thinking of everything! Kodi either doesn’t support the popup menu or i just don’t know how to use it.
Also, the 25GB Special Features disk and 25GB Documentaries disks are now avilable. PM me if interested.
I am interested in the 25GB Doc disk, thanks!
Wahoo! I found the solution to the subtitle problem: Convert the srt from 23.976fps to 24fps in Jubler, then use Lemony to create the BDN. Edit the XML to set the framerate back to 23.976 and import as non-drop. Then subs remain in sync to the end. Rinse and repeat for all languages. We’re back in business people!
Yay!
my only complaint so far is that all of the various extras play as one playlist, even if you just select one title, not the playall option. it plays what i select, but then continues on to the next one instead of returning to the menu. i have a feeling this is due to size constraints? i havent burned yet (waiting on my media to arrive) but this is what it did under kodi. i had issues using vlc.
Williarob
Thanks for the update!
I just checked out the 50 GB star wars disk from here http://originaltrilogy.com/topic/Star-Wars-Despecialized-Editions-Custom-Bluray-Set/id/49995 and it has no issues with the subtitle sync. Again the fact that you have branching probably complicate things, but i wanted to point out that njvc swapped the subtitles in using multiAVCHD (and using the .SUP files from Threepio). Just in case that helps with your current conundrum.
He suggested that there might be despecialized ones to use as a starting point. Was just saying there are quite a lot to choose from as far as that goes.
Heh yeah, lots to choose from is the problem. I like the suggestion benjay2345 made, are there any better ones? (These are nice as it has the templates and source artwork)

Here are links to a very good custom cover set.

This is a link to where you can download them directly. If someone could edit these covers and inserts to mesh with this release it would work very well. Use Jdownloader to download the links.
Thanks! i will check it out. not sure if i will have time to tackle this myself. But it looks like this is a great starting point for anyone!
The nice thing about that set is he put the fonts and other poster art for the set so someone could customize them if they wished. I have the original variation were it has Despecialized Edition underneath each title. PM me if you want a copy…
thanks
Heading out for a much needed vacation for a few days, but I would love to take a look at this if you want more eyes before widespread release. But I have a lot of confidence that you will get it right.
Regarding covers etc, anyone working on that? I imagine there are already some despecialized ones that could be a starting point? (On my mobile and feeling way too lazy to search for anything)
Look, I know a lot about stories. I have the best writer friends and they agree with me on this one. The Prequel Trilogy has yuge stories. One in a million. The Prequel Trilogy is gonna make Star Wars great again.
URGE TO REBOOT RISING
Run a ram scrubber / compressor and you can go all week without rebooting. It’s shareware! Send 1 dollar to happy dude.
Jedit
Forgot you’re not a pc.
Love it! thanks for sharing
A.S. - you have made your point. please accept that you might not convince anyone to change their plans.
njvc - WOW! I am impressed by everything going on these 50GB versions. I am really looking forward to this.
Yes, but it must have cost trillions in whatever passes for currency in the SW universe. Who paid for it? Did Palpatine win the lottery? Whether the real Sifo Diyas was involved or not, Obi Wan or someone should have followed the money trail.
yeah, that whole plot point really bugs me. never makes sense how it could have been paid for by a jedi and nobody knew it. you would think you would want to verify that part of the story at least, before you just take the clones!
When i tried free-rapid it just wouldn’t work, but i am on linux. JDownloader2 works for me
I have encoded the Despec. Ed. in only 1mb 640x480 what do you think

I think you squandered an opportunity. what you describe would have been legitimately lame/interesting. lameresting? What you did is just annoying.
I appreciate the clarification Williarob. Your recent work has been so much more visible to us, so I certainly was under the impression that you had been doing the brunt of the work. I think most of us will be glad when Poitas scan becomes the base for future work.
In the meantime, it seems like we might be stuck in our same pickle when it comes to trying to distribute this work via 'spleen. Can you provide any comment on that (either here or via PM)? I would appreciate it!
Yes, I have the 9.2 versions of Project Threepio subtitles, and have included the .sup files on the disk.
Excellent. i figured i would ask now rather than after you post these 😃 You are doing great work on these.
Exciting update!
I think multiAVCHD can also be used to replace srt subtitle tracks with .sup, since the latter will not work with encore.
Just don’t want to loose track of the subtitles. Are you going to use the .sup ones? they are better quality. Also, i want to make sure you are using the most up-to-date subtitles. 9.2 is the latest set for all movies, but catbus has a few fixes for some languages on top of that. i highly recommend getting in touch and making sure you have the latest and greatest. should be a quick update to the final disk.
Yes, Hungarian accents are already fixed in development and will be available in the next release (10.0).
wasn’t quick enough 🙁
Puggo’s version is DVD AFAIK and not HD
true, it is a DVD. but what is the best you can expect to get from 8mm?
I’ll let you know in an hour or so…
JEDIT: The SUP files are not compatible, and would still need splitting and re-timing even if they were.
It looks like you can import SUP with MultiAVCHD (again just based on what is posted in that doom9 thread - not my personal experience), so perhaps you can swap them out after the authoring process is complete? assuming the branching doesn’t make that difficult.
Meanwhile I still haven’t resolved the subtitle sync problem. If you are just joining us, this is the story so far. Using Jubler, each .srt file (taken directly from project Threepio) was split in to two parts (Before the flyover and after the flyover). Also in Jubler, I retimed the second part, so that it counts up from 00:00:00.000 instead of 00:02:26.xxx and verified that they stay in sync from start to finish. That’s all good. Now, since I can’t just import .srt files, I then converted them using Lemony to the correct format, and checking the xml file it created (along with thousands of .png subtitle image files) I have verified that the timing is still correct, in that the in and out timecodes match their .srt counterparts. So far, so good.
Now when I import the BDN files into the authoring software, it asks me if they are drop or non-drop, and regardless of which option I pick, they still drift out of sync.
As I understand it, the original .srt files are timed to match a true 23.976 timecode, but the film is almost certainly using a 24 fps timecode, which is why they slowly drift out of sync. (Excellent explanation of all this here: https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/279/1230).
It sounded to me like the solution should be to convert the timing to match, so, using Lemony, I tried adding a frame rate conversion (23.976 to 24) and rebuilt everything. (It takes about 5 minutes to convert the subtitles, another 2 or 3 to import them, and then about an hour to rebuild the disc before I can test it, so it’s a time consuming process!)
It still goes out of sync (though at a different rate than before) and this is regardless of whether I select drop or non-drop on import or mark the film as drop or non-drop (I think I’ve tried all combinations). At this point I am struggling to wrap my tiny brain around the problem. Any ideas?
This might be crazy, and i have no experience with these matters, but after reading the page you linked, what happens if you convert the subtitles to 30 instead of 24?
JEDIT:
Actually, have you tried using the SUP files from project threepio instead of the srt files? I think someone suggested this earlier. see: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=170368 sounds like SUP don’t have this issue for whatever reason.
What the heck was the in-universe explanation?
I hope it was that his vital organs are all contained in his top half. Or his bottom half…
If Maul’s top half with robotic legs fights his bottom half with robotic arms, who would win?
Lucas?
This was already done here http://originaltrilogy.com/topic/The-Puggo-Edition-webpage-and-screenshots/id/6830 unless you are talking of something different?
@poita, sent some funds, hope it helps in the HD department
