Parts are upscale , parts in HD. This is the new version that was done a while back for HDTV. They asked Lucasfilm if they could have the footage they used in HD and they refused, so those parts had to be upscaled. Most of the “talking head” footage is HD though.

I was watching it the other day. I’m not positive but kinda looked like an upscale to me.

We know the interview you are referring to and technically the subject of the OUT wasn’t addressed. The interviewer asked about George changing his movies and said something like “you’re not gonna make more changes are you??” KK laughed and said “those will always be his”. I mean people can interpret this any way they choose but technically the future of the OUT was never addressed.

I remember a comment from a few years ago on a video about DeSpecialized and the comment was basically along the lines of “I don’t understand why you would want to undo the new effects and reinsert those older cheesier effects” or whatever.
Just a few months ago a guy on Blu-ray.com was talking how the updated versions are better than with the outdated effects or whatever. I had to reiterate that he was stating an opinion. His response was “It’s not an opinion though. The original versions have dated special effects and are dated over all, the new versions look far superior, even though they have some admittedly already dated CGI. I do wish Lucas would have waited until CGI was as good as it is now“. I once again reiterated to him that this was his opinion, not fact.

In regards to the 2004 sets, Gold was Fullscreen and Silver was widescreen regardless of retailer.

That had to be the retailer exclusive then because most places I saw that carried those sets had gold for FS and silver for WS (just like the ‘97 VHS’).

The upcoming UHD release will have the mono in both Dolby and DTS. Be interesting to see how they different.

EDIT: I was wrong. The mono is only in DTS.

Yep and the only way to get the complete uncut miniseries is the LD or UK DVD.

There’s the three hour miniseries which has been available on VHS, LD, DVD, and BD. There’s the two hour European theatrical cut which has only been available on VHS.

So ROTJ has trailers and tv spots but not the other two???

Some updates. I have a folder prepared for anyone interested. Inside are three other folders. LilBrutto folder has the LD audio captured as is. No edits so because of this the files wont sync properly with the BD but they may be helpful incase anyone wanna do their own edits. Moshrom folder has Moshrom’s synced file. crissrudd4554 folder has my edits. I made some further tweaks but not many. Mostly was trying to fix some of Moshrom’s edits. The ‘louder’ of my two tracks was increased to 10db. Any interest shoot me a message. Same specs as above.

This was corrected on later pressings. The DVD and BD editions have the footage intact. The BD does skip 2-3 frames in the scene on the ship.

Son of Dracula- The 1991 VHS has a re-recorded version of the Universal globe theme. The DVD and BD versions have the correct recording. The BD removes the ad for war bonds at the end of the film seen on the DVD.

The Invisible Mans Revenge- Nothing significant offhand

The Mummy’s Ghost- Nothing significant offhand

House of Frankenstein- A glitch appeared in one scene where two shots repeated on the 2001 and 2004 DVDs. The 2014 DVD and 2016 BDs have the scene corrected. The BD has a few frames dropped in one scene.

The Mummy’s Curse- Nothing significant offhand

House of Dracula- Nothing significant offhand

Revenge of the Creature- VHS and DVD versions have it in open matte 2D. BD has it in widescreen in both 2D and 3D. Early pressings of the BD had the 3D version authored incorrectly. This was quickly corrected though many still complain the 2D looks too soft.

The Creature Walks Among Us- VHS and DVD versions have it in open matte. The BD have it in widescreen.

Just a short list

Dracula- Early video releases had the censored audio track that lacked Renfield’s death screams and Dracula’s death groans. This same track oddly was used for the 2004 DVD but aside from that most video releases from the 1990s onward have the restored audio track though the 1999 DVD for some reason is missing the musical cue at the end of the opera scene. Additionally the Blu-ray recreates portions of the opening credits to fix a jump cut

Frankenstein- Early releases featured the films censored film which cut a few scenes notably the Monster killing the little girl. Most of these cuts were restored around 1986 and have been intact ever since although it was until 1999 that Colin Clive’s line “Now I know what it feels like to be God” was fully restored. This film has also had a history of audio issues which you here about here…

The Mummy- Nothin significant offhand

The Invisible Man- The theatrical release had the piece “La Rosita” playing in one scene but most video releases replaced it with “Hearts and Flowers”. The BD restores “La Rosita”.

Bride of Frankenstein- The sequence of the Monster approaching the hermits cabin is re-edited on the BD.

The Wolf Man- Nothing significant offhand

Phantom of the Opera ‘43- Nothing significant offhand

Creature from the Black Lagoon- 1980 VHS has the film in 4:3 open matte and in the 1970s anaglyph format. Subsequent video releases have it 2D. The BD is the first to have the film in its theatrical widescreen version in both 2D and 3D so apparently the 3D effect is reversed in some shots.

There’s many more films I know but I’m at work and just wanted to name check a few things real fast.
