Don’t know if this was mentioned or matters but Empire of Dreams is on Amazon Prime.

Worth repeating here I suppose
https://twitter.com/ctabesh/status/1156747612935954438Let’s be honest, though. They were never going to debut a restoration of the unaltered ‘77 Star Wars in the form of a tv broadcast anyone could just dvr.
I personally don’t foresee the original versions ever getting shown on TV again even if they do get restored. Even a restored OUT is likely gonna be relegated to the back seat of a restored SE Trilogy which being the canon versions now are gonna be the versions shown on TV and available on digital etc. It’s just like how the Jaws BD has an option for the film’s original mono yet they only use the surround on TV broadcasts.
That Tweet was part of an argument where a guy wanted TCM to list the film as the 1997 version instead of the 1977 version. Technically it’s not the 1997 version either.
Joe Dante even Tweeted about the film being aired in the wrong aspect ratio!

Someone was saying that the 20th Century Fox logo and fanfare was intact.
It was. The logo was never removed from the first film because Fox financed and owned the film up until the Disney sale. Same reason the logo still appears on the digital version of the film.
Has that actually been done before???
This kinda reminds me of when I mentioned this last year though that show had the OUT DS2 explosion.
I found the episode on AMC’s site so I have some screengrabs. Most dont look to be HD, notably the DSII explosion and the Falcon leaving Mos Eisley but they don’t appear to be GOUT sourced. I found another shot which I think might be from the original, the shot of the Rebel fighters going into attack. I may be wrong about that shot though but figured I’d share it anyways. I used a snipping tool for these so framing may not be 100% accurate. I also have a link to the episode below.
“The changes I wanted to make did not involve story issues”
Then re-explain the Greedo scene then Georgie.
I’m sure there’s many more including ones I haven’t discovered yet (I never noticed the 94 outside docking bay 94 til now) but off hand I know I never knew about the trooper bumping his head on the door until I read up on the 2004 changes that said a sound effect was added for that blooper.
I have the audio of a 1993 Japanese LD of Frankenstein captured that someone over at FanRes has been trying to sync for a while now. I also have the 1991 VHS’ of Dracula and Frankenstein captured to DVD.
I’m not exactly hearing it. I would need a scene by scene comparison. Can’t really tell when it cuts between both as a whole scene is playing.
Might be why I thought the mono track Criterion provided for Breakfast Club sounded better than the 5.1 track.
Yeah I can see that especially when they have releases where the mono is in one channel where others will have it two channel.
Yes the 1999 DVD has a very unique mix but was a bit problematic. For the most part it’s mixed very low. I don’t think I’ve been able to watch that DVD without the need of turning the volume up. However there’s points where certain things get louder in the mix so overall it’s not very well balanced. From a quality standpoint it’s pretty good. Very clean with much of the audio crackle removed. If Universal has been able to properly balance it out and not make it so quiet for the most part it could have been a lot better.
Speaking of the VHS’, the 1999 VHS has an uncensored track.
I actually made a comparison video of the 1999 DVD mono and the Blu-ray mono
https://vimeo.com/348112133
Though I’ll admit I did turn up the DVD audio a bit to make it more consistent with the BD mono volume. I used three different clips and especially in the last one the BD mono sounded very muffled yet was the noisiest of the two.
Nice. Yeah I had the same issue when I made my LD vs BD comparison video. I initially posted it without any alterations to either track but when I played it back on my TV through our Roku box I realized the LD audio had noticeably lower volume than the BD. Because I didn’t want that aspect to affect people’s opinions on the comparison since I was comparing quality not volume I went back and increased the volume on the LD track. Not by much. Just enough that it was more on par with the BD track.
The GoodTimes disc also has an extended sequence from the theatrical cut just before the shark’s demise. This sequence is not present on the Blu-ray or Unviersal DVD.
I wasn’t aware of this and I have both DVDs (3 if you count the double feature disc with Jaws 3 in the sequels DVD set from a few years ago). Guess I’ll have to recheck those discs.

Yeah, I remember reading about that a while back. I had the 1998 DVD forever and I assumed it was just a rights thing. Looked it up and yeah, it was blurred in theaters because of a Pepsi deal. Now I have the 1981 laserdisc as well and it even has the Coke logo blurred. The “rockin’ rydell” blu-ray replaced it with the design on the blue wallpaper of the burger place. It looks pretty bad now I think, I’d prefer the blurred sign. I’ll bet the new Pepsi ad/logo is much better than the rockin rydell background.
Are you sure you aren’t getting mixed up with the Sing Along version that was released theatrically several years back and which I believe is also available for streaming? That version is the only one I am aware of that had the coke sign digitally removed and replaced with the wall pattern behind it, as well as various other graphics digitally imposed through the film. I have the Rockin’ Rydell DVD and Blu-ray and i’m 99% sure it still has the same blurred out signs that every other transfer had prior to the 4k release.
I can’t comment on the Rockin Rydell release since I don’t own it but I did get the digital version of the Sing A Long version on Amazon last year and I can confirm you are correct about the signs being replaced with wall design.

And? Note that I linked this thread myself in my OP…
Because the questions you are posting here you could have simply posted there. Starting a new thread in regards to an event that’s already being discussed in another thread really isnt necessary.
Except that this thread is not about the event, but GL signing off on the screening of a freaking theatrical print! Don’t know how this is being missed or why no one else finds this surprising or worth saying anything given like I said, what was the default understanding till now about his stance on the OUT.
Sorry, I thought the specific topic would be of some interest on here but it seems I have more to discuss about it with my casual Star Wars fan friends and family than on OT.com
If you actually scrolled through the last few pages of that thread you would know that this subject has reached this sites interest for discussion and has indeed been talked about. Yes this to a degree big news but it’s big news that already being discussed elsewhere on this site.

Why is this a thread?
This^
Jaws- Mono on 2005 DVD is a tad crisper than mono track on BD and lacks ‘flaws’ that the latter has. Mono track on mid-1990’s LD has certain dialogue/effects that are more present than those on the mono tracks on the DVD/BDs.
The Terminator- Mono on Image DVD and LD is better sounding than Mono on MGM DVD. Sound effects are much louder and beefier on the Image releases. However some effects differ between the two.
Frankenstein- Restored VHS and LD sound best though they lack the restored ‘God’ line. 1999 DVD has audio heavily DNR’d while a more flat and a tad muffled sounding track is used on the 2004 DVD and carried over to subsequent releases including BD.
Halloween- Mono on 35th Anniversary BD and 40th Anniversary UHD is a downmix of the surround track, not the original mono. 2007 BD as well as the 35th Anniversary BD included in the deluxe set with all the films has the correct mono.
In theatres I caught the SE of ANH, saw TPM three times (four if you count the 3D reissue), AOTC once, ROTS once, TFA three times, TLJ twice. Wasn’t around during the time of the OUT.
Yep I’ve never to to anything as the GOUT except those 2006 DVDs.
Well, except for the thread title
I didn’t make the thread. 😉
Somehow I had read “I’ve never to to anything” as “I’ve never heard of anything” instead of “I’ve never referred to anything” as I now assume you must’ve meant.
Yes and to be fair I didn’t realize I miswrote my original post until you quoted it. But yes ‘I’ve never referred to’ was what I originally meant.
Just the same what is their connection with Star Wars??
