By suggesting I wasn't happy with the villain.

You know what else I don't have patience for? People who use excuses to justify why they like a movie. Great, you liked the random shot of a goat moving it's head around, and you give me this fanwank theory about his place in the film. Hey, I liked the film too, you know. Everyone does it, and I know I've done it too, but really, I couldn't care less about whether you have experience with mythology. I have better things to do with my time. Let's just agree to disagree. Anyway, hope that works out for you.

At least at some point I'm hoping you would have been able to get into the fantastic mindset. The movie's based on a comic book after all and that's what comic books do. More comic book-to-movie adaptations should be like this in my opinion. Otherwise, perhaps Ridley Scott will make his version of the Battle of Thermopylae and then you'll be much more happy.

Hey, don't put words in my mouth. I never said anything was wrong with Xerxes, although now that you mention it, he kind of looks and talks like Ra from Stargate. Anyway, I accepted the fact that he's a tall guy. Hey, why not, if Kareem Abdul Jabbar can be tall, so can Xerxes.

What you seem to have forgotten is that this isn't like the graphic novel. Believe me, I know, as I have it here in front of me (I pulled it out to see how the film compared to the book). There's no goat-man or Knives-A-Lot in this film. If anything, the writers made it MORE unbelievable by adding them. It doesn't seem very "fantastic" to me that there's this goat creature that comes out of nowhere and just disappears. It's like eye-porn.

Well, considering that, along with that thing with the knife-hands, he's one of the two distinctly non-human characters in the film, and also considering the fact that he just comes out of nowhere for five seconds bobbing his head around, then yes, it WAS ridiculous. The audience I was with first were muttering "what the fuck" when knife-man showed up, and then the goat got a large amount of laughter.

What's worse is why he relates to this story. He's just kind of...there. It's never explained if he speaks, why Xerxes hired him (although I'm sure he goes over great at parties), and what his function is, aside from window dressing. It's a campy moment in an otherwise serious scene when hunchback man is being tempted by the dark side, so to speak.

...But it's based on something that actually happened! (Yes, I know it didn't happen the way the movie depicted it, but the premise of 300 Spartans holding off all those Persians until they found a different passage was real.)

I know what happened at Thermopylae. I did a study on it in my Grade 12 History class. What I'm saying is that in the context of the film, there isn't much more than "Oh look, Xerxes took over everything, and only me and my men can stop him". I mean, I liked the movie (enough to see it again on Friday night with my friend), and it works as a pure action film, but it is what it is.

On another note, everyone in the audience laughed at the goat in Xerxes' tent. Both times.

- Creating Star Wars (simple and to the point. No ambiguity)
- Constructing Star Wars (particularly as 'constructing' is part of the Star Wars vocabulary: - "I see you have constructed a new lightsaber""... begun construction on a new armoured space station" etc)

De-Constructing Star Wars?

How about Deconstructing Hope? This sounds like a very exciting project. Keep up the good work, Mr. Davdar!

The Best Star Wars Books?
Time
-The Jedi Academy trilogy, if only for the fact that it's so...out there. Admiral Ackbar (accidentally) crashing a ship through a glass pyramid, the spirit of Exar Kun being fended off by Luke's padawan students, Wedge getting a little frisky with an alien designer and a prototype Death Star. Good reading, but bizarre.
-Han Solo origin trilogy
-Darksaber

Idea: Preserving STAR TREK - a preservation project?
Time
Christ, I wish I had known about this forum a while back. I used to have a whole boatload of commercials and clips for all the different series. I went around just scouting sites looking for commercials, as well as using Kazaa. There was one early promo for the show Enterprise that referred to Spock as a different military grade, and I had a whole bunch of other UPN clips as well. There's a site somewhere (maybe I'll remember the name later) where every single promo from the first three or four years of Voyager are posted, network broadcast info and all. There's also the Generations deleted scenes, which were actually really funny (Scotty and Bones looking up as a wine bottle rockets through the air to crash on the ground in the aborted alternate beginning is a good one). If I can, I'll check around to see if I can find some stuff.

I think, THINK, I can get some of the bonus materials that came on the store-exclusive discs (as they're on another torrent site), but I'll check back in tomorrow to tell you folks what I can find.

What were your original expectations for the PT?
Time
Having watched the OT numerous times between 1996 and 1999, I went into Episode 1 with a bit of optimism. What can I say, I was impressionable. I bought into the pre-release hype, the silly fast food promotions at places like Pizza Hut (in fact, there's a really old picture of me posing with a Jar-Jar Binks cutout at a Pizza Hut), and I went into the film expecting a lot of long lines. When I saw it, I couldn't understand what was going on in the film. I liked the end fight, but I practically groaned out loud when widdle Anakin Skywalker goes "Yippee!" and blows up a ship by himself. That was really weak. I went to see II and III more out of loyalty to the brand then anything else.

Mike: Overdrawn At The Memory Bank. So many good lines.

"He didn't tell me what the dinner special was."
"Hang on, I'm passing a ham through my left ventricle!"
"BUT I LIKE IT HERE!!! WEEEEE!!!! We're having an electron sex party right now, WHEEEEE!!!"
"Mike, I really think she's Billy Squier!"

So good.

Help Wanted: Heroes - an edit / montage...

I forget who the owner of the blog is, but there is someone (I think it's one of the directors) that has a blog over at Blogspot.com, in which he talks about the episodes he did (he directed "Homecoming"), and talks about his experiences on the set. You could use that as a text trivia track, except I don't know the name of the guy. It's probably linked in a post over at TVSquad.com, because that's where I found the link.

T-HOPE ULTIMATE TERMINATOR PROJECT (Mainly Released)
Time
I quite like your idea for the T2-3D bonus disc, Maurice. Having been on the "ride" myself, I certainly enjoyed it, and would like to see all the little extras associated with it.

Also, for your "Terminator Rarities" disc, if you're including parodies, don't forget the SNL sketch, "Tooncinator", which had Edward Furlong and Sarah Hamilton doing cameos as their characters.

Info: The Making of The Empire Strikes Back (Michel Parbot)
Time
Originally posted by: Darth Neo
I am wondering if anyone has ever heard about another making of documentary about the empire strikes back. I have never come across any information about this program on the internet. As far as I know it was never released in any form.

The program was called "the making of the empire strikes back" and was made by Michel Parbot who also made SFPX: the empire strikes back. The only original copy that I know of resides in the private collection of Gary Kurtz. I own a third generation copy of this copy on video and I have tranferred it to DVD. At this time I am preparing a website about this program so I am looking for any information that I can get on this rare gem.

The program itself contains a lot of footage that I have never seen anywhere else. There are interviews with the cast in their costumes and it has a different emphasis than the SPFX program. This is much more about the shooting itself, a lot of finse stuff and a lot of Elstree Studio stuff. Any help is much appreciated.

I took one look at your post and yelled out, "DAMN!" Awesome work!
