"BUT ANAMORPHIC ENHANCEMENT ALTERS THE MOVIES!!!"
Time
I recant my earlier apology.....if you all want to be gullible, be my guest...but I will continue to grill morons like this who are just here screwing with us.

Sour grapes much?

You obviously don't get what I said. Raul there could name of any of a half-dozen restoration artists. Richard Harris, Bill Hunt, etc. Do you really think someone who hasn't even officially signed onto this project and is still in talks is going to release something as potentially explosive as that, especially given the fact that the Limited Edition films were released last week? And your whole argument essentially boiled down to "give me a name and we'll know you're telling the truth". That proves absolutely nothing, other than the fact that the person exists, and yet you still use that silly and illogical statement.

I just get picked on cuz I'm so venomous....which is all right. Somebody's gotta do it....

Don't you DARE try to act like a victim when I call you on something. I read Scruffy's post, and although I do agree with most of what he's saying, I don't think someone will even allude to a project as sensitive as this (not to mention it's still in a pre-planning stage).

As I said before, I have suspect feelings about whether a person is telling the truth or not, especially on the internet. Anyone can come on and make up some cockamamie story, but you always have to remain somewhat neutral about it. I didn't "come down on you" for going after someone. I came down on you because you called me an idiot, and then you try to rationalize with some bull excuse about being "venomous". You have never met me, and you never will meet me, so don't you EVER talk to me like that, do you understand? I came here for a lively discussion with other users, not to have a pissing contest with a 12-year old. Don't even bother mentioning my name again, because I don't want to hear it.

As to the subject at hand, I've been waiting a while to buy any release, and if I have to wait another year to get all the movies in one fell swoop complete with all the bells and whistles, so be it. I don't have a blind allegiance to buy every single product that Lucasfilm churns out. I waited ten years since the Faces release, and I know that the Saga set is where my money is going, regardless of whether it has the OUT or not.

Things that piss me off when opening new DVDs
Time
I know what you folks mean about the residue from the security seals sticking to the package. I bought the American Pie UE a few months ago and had an awful time trying to get the seals off, and when I did, there was funky residue all over the sides. I ended up trading it to Blockbuster and getting everything I paid back in credit (I bought it for $7.00 at a supermarket, so no loss).

I want a name. Then maybe we can check his story?

Check his story? Against what? An arrangement that's apparently still in the planning stages if they haven't even begun work on this project? LOL!

Piss off idiot....

Keep in mind that I'm on the same wavelength as you. I don't think he's telling the truth either, and maybe if you had been reading my earlier posts, you would have realized that. You have no way of knowing if the person he mentions is involved with the project or not. There have been no press releases of any kind stating otherwise. In short, YOU, sir, are full of crap, and your entire argument boils down to "give me a name and I'll know you're telling the truth", which is a shallow and silly statement. Learn to think with your head next time instead of running your mouth and calling me an idiot, because you're not doing yourself any favors.

WHO IS THE RESTORATION ARTIST?

No matter what Mr. Raul's answer is, there's no way to know for certain whether he is telling the truth or not. What, you think that you have the answer and you're waiting for him to correlate your hypothesis there, chief?

I meant to say a few years, and for that I apologize. Regardless, DVD's will not last 50 to 100 years like industry reports suggest. You can read a bit about DVD shelf life and problems here if you want. That's why I don't own a very large DVD collection. Hell, a lot of my discs have already become plagued with playback problems.

Bulls*it. I'm sorry, but whatever line you've been fed is a complete lie. All DVD's will degrade in condition and be essentially useless after a period of a few years, depending on how much you play them. They can be affected by temperature, "DVD rot" or storage conditions. They're like CD's. So yes, DVD's CAN wear out.

And I'm fairly certain that Denis Lawson is still around. At the very least, he recorded dialogue as Wedge Antilles for the 2001 game Rogue Leader.

He won an Emmy award for his work in a miniseries this year, if my memory serves me correctly.
Unfortunately, he lost. Denis attended the show and his face was onscreen as well as the other nominees' when they announced the winner. He was beat out by Jeremy Irons' work in "Elizabeth I".

Seriously? Damn, I had thought I had heard that he won. That sucks.

Info: What is your dream fan edit if you could get the rare footage?
Time
If it's still out there, and if Charles de Lauzirika still has the footage in all those boxes of the negatives he has, I'd like to see Alien 3 with every single scrap of footage included. Apparently there was a scene shot where the chestburster comes out when Ripley is standing on the platform at the end, and there may have been other little snippets of footage not seen.

Anyone who thinks that Clinton is less to blame for the events of the past five years than Bush is, is smoking some seriously badass new breed of crack. Take the partisan politics out of it, the job of the President of the United States is to lead and protect America. Almost from the day Clinton took office, we came under attack by terrorists beginning with the WTC bombings in 1993. The attacks continued through Clinton's two terms in office, each one becoming more daring than the last and building up to what we saw on 9/11. In eight years, for all intents and purposes, Clinton did nothing to ensure the security of this nation. He was too busy chasing that chubby intern around the Oral Office to be worried about little things like national security. Maybe if he had paid as much attention to the terrorists abroad, AND HERE learning to fly but not land jumbo jets, as he did to Monica Lewinsky...just maybe the history of the last five years would be very different.

For eight years Bin Laden and his buddies were taking pot shots at us because the could get away with it virtually uncontested. Wow. Clinton lobbed a few cruise missiles into the mountains in response to repeated and deadly attacks against our country and its interests. Boy, that sure showed them didn't it?

Clinton did the only thing Americans care about... spoiled, selfish, ignorant pricks that most of us are...he made them money. And, hell, as long as the money keeps coming in, who the hell cares. The man lacked the balls as a supposed leader to make what may have been politically unpopular decisions that were in the absolute best interests of this country. His attitude was basically, leave it for the next guy to deal with. And that's Clinton's legacy, a spineless buck passer who not only allowed the greatest threat of our time to gather itself against us virtually unchecked throughout his watch...but he also de-fanged the largest and mightiest military power on earth, down-sizing and base-closing into oblivion because the U.S. no longer had a need for a military as large as it had, despite the growing terrorist threat of which he was well aware... so that we find ourselves stuck in the predicament we now find ourselves. Too many battles to fight and not enough men to fight them. Thanks Bill! Hell of a job!

Relax, it's not the last time on laserdisc (according to the THX set), last time on VHS (every release), last time in the world (paraphrase of the Faces DVD set), or last time to see (pick your release).

As long as there is a market, or someone waiting to raid GL's archives after his death and license to Criterion, these movies will persist.

Very true. I knew years ago that the OUT would probably be released again, and it has, and it will be released, as long as there is scratch to be made. For that reason, I've only bought the bonus disc from the SW 2004 set (cost me $8 dollars CAD on Ebay) and I will wait for the 30th Anniversary Saga set before I make a conclusive decision on whether to buy the OUT on DVD or not.

2004 DVD crap-o-la

I have to admit, and not ashamed to, with the new discs out today I just saw the 'new fixed' stuff from the 2004 DVDs and of course with the material from the '97 SE for the first time. (I did see SE in the theatre, but just saw the super enhanced DVDs for the first time) And I have to say no self-respecting Wars fan should have ever bought the '04 discs or watch them. They are so bad. I couldn't stop shaking my head when watching Jedi Rocks, or Hayden's head on the spirit of Anakin. Or Han steppin on Jabba's tale. How many times does he have to say 'Han my bookie". C'mon why is Luke's sabre green when he is training in the falcon? And why is Tatooine celebrating when the Empre falls? And how horrible is the new dialouge between the emp and Vader in ESB. "The young rebel who destroyed the Death star is the off spring of Anakin Skywalker" Now that was a great idea!
HAAAAAAAAA

HOW BAD IS THE EWOK SONG AT THE END!!!!!!!!!???????????

I like the updated Ewok song, surprisingly. It seems to fit as a much more joyous and uplifting song to me than the other OUT song. When I saw ROTJ for the first time, I heard the song and just said "What the hell? What is this crap music?"

Idea & Info: a Preservation of Alien Evolution doco?
Time
Yeah, I was searching EBay a week back, and I bought an Alien: The Director's Cut press kit on a CD-ROM. Does anyone know if there's anything interview-wise or info-wise on there that hasn't been shown on the Alien Quadrilogy or already available in some sort of other form? I know it's out-of-print, so if someone wants, I could make a copy and send it out. I should be getting the disc sometime this week. I also got a scan of one of the press screening tickets from EBay. I don't know if this will help at all, but it's something.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I watched the workprint (having acquired it through Mr. Bigrob, who is an invaluable person) and I don't understand why there's so much extra stuff on there that wasn't put on the "Complete Dossier". Heck, the stuff that's culled from the workprint and is on the DVD is hardly better quality-wise.

If you need a copy of the workprint or HOD, e-mail me. I may be able to make copies next week, but I will have to go buy some more DVD-R's first.

I like the cut of your jib.

I'd also like to see the part in ROTS where Artoo got his nifty rocket boosters.

Knowing Lucas, I don't want to give him any ideas, for fear that he may make a CGI'd scene in ESB where Artoo rocket blasts his way out of the Dagobah swamp.

What Special Edition changes (if any) did people like?
Time
There are a few things I liked and disliked.

ANH

Liked:

1) The shots of Ben's hut and the Outrider.
2) The improved shots of the Rebel force heading for the Death Star.
3) Inserting the Biggs scene at Yavin.
4) Fixing the cell block length.

Disliked:

1) Greedo shooting first (self-explanatory)
2) Introducing the Millennium Falcon by having Jabba and his goons surrounding it. It really feels in the OUT like you're seeing things from Luke's perspective, and following him around and being awed by this massive freighter that's practically invincible. It gives the Falcon a greater presence, in my opinion.
3) Mos Eisley is a "hive of scum and villainy", not a hive of repair droids and Jawas acting slapstick on Rontos.
4) Having Han run into a crowded Stormtrooper room complete with Tie Fighter. (Look, he's getting shot at by MANY Stormtroopers! KOMEDY!!!!)

ESB

Liked:

1) Showing the Bespin residents being warned by Lando of the Imperials.
2) The improved visual effects.

Disliked:

1) Luke's scream while falling down the shaft in Cloud City. (Why scream if you're voluntarily dropping down the shaft???)
2) The "improved" Emperor scene. (Stupid, adds more continuity issues, and makes Vader look like a putz.)
3) Adding more of the Wampa. (It's scarier when you DON'T see the whole creature! Build UP the suspense!)
4) Vader going to his Star Destroyer. (Do we REALLY need to see this? It's unnecessary padding.)

ROTJ

Liked:

1) Most of the Celebration scenes at the end.

Disliked:

1) The Naboo Celebration scene. (Unneeded, forced, and just plain stupid.)
2) Anakin as a Force ghost. (Makes no sense whatsoever.)
3) New song in Jabba's Palace. (Stupid and clumsy attempt to show off the latest CG.)

In his early conversations with Luke Skywalker, he evaded discussion of Princess Leia until late after key facts were told in Kenobi's presence. When Obi-Wan began to tell Luke a tale about Anakin and the Jedi, Threepio requested to be shut down, likely to avoid discussion and facing awkward memories about his Maker's tragic fate. Nevertheless the supposedly inert droid was only pretending unconsciousness; as he eavesdropped on the conversation he swayed slightly but visibly. This evasive behaviour was prompted by Threepio's recognition of Anakin's lightsabre.

Uh-huh...

Yeah, I can field this one.

It's a man. Pretending to be a robot. And he's in a suit. And he can't stay perfectly still.

Sometimes the best answer is the easiest answer.
