The actual jpegs DO NOT HAVE the brownish-tan backgrounds. Why? So you can print the image on kraft paper so that it will precisely match the Complete Dossier packaging. You can get a roll of kraft paper for $5 at Staples. Cut a piece that is approx. 8" x 14" (21 x 35cm) to feed into the printer. Before I print out these artworks, I add a thin black boderline so that I will know where to cut out the final insert.

Of course, when printing out on kraft paper, the images are not nearly as bright/crisp/clear as depicted. They still look good, though.

I'm drooling.

That would be the one. The films are canon, followed by (if I remember this correctly), novelizations and radio works, then EU material, then non-EU material like board games and RPG D&D-style games, and then things like Star Wars: Infinities. In a sense, everything in the SW universe is canon, just to a certain degree. It was unofficially adopted (my memory is a little bad) by fans and Lucas Licensing to keep track of what is absolute truth in the SW universe. I'm trying to remember this off-hnd, so I could be wrong on the specifics.

I agree that each one of us gets to pick and choose what we want from the Star Wars universe. I for example don't really get much into the EU. I like Shadows of the Empire, but didn't quite like Splinter of the Mind's eye all that much.

But "Canon", is something Lucas gets to decide because it's his universe.

I take it you've never heard of the "Holocron", that...how shall I put these, levels of continuity that has been generally accepted (at least, I thought it was) by Lucasfilm?

Coming Soon: The Making of Star Wars

October 25, 2006

With the release of each Star Wars film, there has been a companion book that explores the definitive story of the making of the movie... with one glaring exception that will soon be rectified. For the 30th anniversary of the original Star Wars, Del Rey Books is correcting that oversight with the release of The Making of Star Wars.

F*ck me, I want that book now.

FTW

Seriously, the only copy of the trilogy I bought were the 1995 pan & scan VHS tapes.

Personally, I think that while he may have been slagging off the fans for a while, his behaviour in some recent interviews shows to me that there is at least some slim hope of him realizing how much the vocal fans mean to the franchise. He may not be totally committed to restoring the original trilogy, but I believe that he understands where the fans are coming from. It should have been obvious to him from the first time fan edits of Episode I started showing up.

FAN EDIT REQUEST THREAD - Post your dream Fan Edits Here!

I may not particularly love the film, but I always felt that Alien 3 was a flawed mess that had a hint of a good film shining through. What I would like to see is an "ultimate cut" with every single shred of film (there are still pieces and scenes that were unused for the workprint, as mentioned by Charles De Laurizika [sp?]) incorporated into the picture, plus a director's commentary by David Fincher.

Please.

Oh, it gets better. Check this out.

A debate with Gomer on the IGN boards.

Featuring such classic quotes as:

(in reference to the PT) It seems to have worked out pretty well the way it is. It all matches up because it's all made the same way.

LOL

A lot of SW fans love the prequels just as much as the classic trilogy.

It's hard to say, are we including the people who didn't like the classic trilogy?

Critical Consensus: “Star Wars” Prequels Actually Better Reviewed Than Originals (link posted shows reviews from RottenTomatoes.com to support claim)

The great PT characters:

Anakin Skywalker
Darth Vader
Obi-Wan
Palpatine
Darth Sidious
The Emperor
Gran Moff Tarkin
Watto
Jar-Jar
Sebulba
Kit Fisto
Ki Adi Mundi
Mace Windu
Aayla Secura
Qui-Gon
Luke
Leia
Boba Fett
Jango Fett
Chewbacca
Yoda
Mon Mothma

Never mind the fact that half the people listed on here hit minor to non-existant parts. And that debate went on for five pages before he got bored and stopped posting.

So he's a gusher. I haven't seen one of those in a while.

Holy shit.

From StarWars.com:

(this is a post a "Go-Mer-Tonic" did in 2002.)

To me it is just two categories.

Negative Jerks, and Reasonable Fans.

They don't have to love everything to be a "reasonable fan", but if all they are doing is focusing on the negative, then they are just negative jerks.

(weeps for humanity)

EDIT: Wrong quote. Sorry.

What Go-Mer-Tonic forgets to tell you is that he has been banned many times over at TF.NET for trolling and flaming other members. The Basher's Sanctuary over at TF.NET is more of a social thread where people who have the same tastes post without the thread turning into a basher/gusher war.

I think Anakin is the coolest chracter ever.

Don't forget "I'm 35 guys!" De-lurking because I, too, am tired of Go-Mer's PT gushing on a board whose focus is to celebrate the original three films. No, Go-Mer I'm not feeding into your "hate" theory, I just find your constant gushing somewhat annoying.

To post slightly on topic, a friend asked me why I dislike the Special Editions of the Star Wars films. I answered her with: "Suppose you go to an art gallery. You see a painting that you absolutely love. You buy it. You hang it on your wall. You speak of its brilliance to all who will listen. Twenty years later there is a knock at your door. The artist is standing there. He barges past you, goes to your basement where the painting is hung. While you stand there speechless, he drops trou and wipes his butt on the painting. He crumples the canvas up and re-hangs it. As he leaves, he says to you 'That's how I wanted the painting to look originally'. You say 'But that's not the picture I bought and loved! Now it's like unto toilet paper!' The artist shrugs and heads out."

Hmmm. I may not particularly like the Special Editions, but I don't think comparing the changes to a piece of crap is an apt metaphor. For one thing, give me a case where any artist has ever done such a thing. Next, I think you're just angry over a couple of the "big changes" (Greedo shooting first, Luke's scream, Jabba in ANH) and neglecting to see that there were some good things added in the Special Edition (added Biggs scene, Cloud City exteriors). Then again, everyone has their own standards, and I think that everyone has different standards of "taste" (no pun intended).

my memory isn't that bad, is it? (in SW '77 - Luke misses with the grappling hook?)
Time
Hmmm. From what I remember, I saw something that resembled the scene mentioned in the topic. I will swear on my life that after Leia kisses Luke "for luck", the door behind them goes up slightly. He throws the grappling hook, which misses, and he pulls it back up, and the door slowly goes up again. It's only then that he swings and it catches. I will swear on my life that I saw it, though it might have been in a broadcast version.

What did the Prequel Trilogy need?

I agree with you. The project I'm planning supposes that the Sith, not Stormtroopers, attack the Jedi. Either way, I think one must conclude that Yoda and Ben are not the only Jedi to survive, hence my post just before yours.

In fact, an earlier idea for a novel was following a Jedi marooned on a primitive world around the time that Ben is retiring to Tatooine.

That would be an interesting prospect. I was just frustrated when I saw Obi-Wan and Yoda dispatching a horde of Clone Troopers without even breaking a sweat. I understand that they are the heroes, but if the rest of the Jedi Council is supposed to be on their level, how about they use some common sense? Force push some Clone Troopers, get out of there quickly, anything? Granted, there were a couple of them who were in vehicles and couldn't do much, but someone like Ki-Adi-Mundi stands there in the cold trying to deflect many incoming shots, while he's standing in front of a massive piece of debris he could use for cover. It makes me want to go up to these people and say, "Wake up, McFly!"

What did the Prequel Trilogy need?
Time
One thing I felt the PT needed, and maybe it was already mentioned before, were more individuals on Obi-Wan and Yoda's level. I never understood why everything fell into place so cleanly (i.e. Obi-Wan and Yoda being the only two "good" and known Jedi to survive Order 66). Now, I understood Mace getting his ass handed to them, but what does it say when people like Ki-Adi Mundi and that green-skinned woman on the jungle planet (I don't remember her name) get killed instantly, but Obi-Wan (who gets his lightsaber back and is a fair distance away before being shot at) and Yoda (who also seems to be the only one to sense when the Clone Troopers are about to shoot) survive due to dumb luck? It's more of a personal gripe for me.

Have the Jedi ever heard of taking cover?

(And before you ask, I'm talking about the movies. No EU stuff.)

My girlfriend has never seen Star Wars!

Well folks, we watched Episode IV tonight. This is kinda embarrassing but she was all over me tonight and (here comes the embarrasing part) as much fun as that was I said to her "honey, if this were any other movie I'd make love to you till the cows came home.....but it's Star Wars and you've never seen it! Let's watch!" I felt kinda geeky turning down a woman but damnit! This may be the only chance to really expierence Star Wars with someone who hadn't already seen the films.

So during the film she pretty much watched attentively until she was feeling...uhh...you know....so I had to attempt to spurn her advances (which I failed a couple of times where I thought she didn't really need to pay attention) however I think she got the jist of the film. I had to explain a few things, like I told her to watch when Ben is telling Luke about the Force and I even had to tell her who Darth Vader was and why he was taking the princess and what the "Death Star Plans" were. She even asked me who that alien was "oh that's Greedo, he's a bounty hunter". I'm not too sure if she understood Jabba's role in the film but what are you gonna do I guess. She seemed to enjoy the film as it got later into the film. Once the falcon was in the Death Star docking bay she tended not to make anymore advances and pretty much watched.

Final Verdict: She said she liked the film. I told her not to lie to me, just to be honest but she was adamant that she enjoyed it, so I guess that's as good as I'm gonna get. I should have asked her what she liked about it, but I'll be seeing her tomorrow so I'll see what she says.

I kinda made a joke with her, I said something like "our relationship will work if we can get through all six Star Wars movies and we're still together" to which she responded "There's Six Star Wars movies!?!?!?"

Thanks for reading everyone.....I'll keep you posted on what she thinks of the next film, The Empire Strikes Back!

...

Wow. Just...

Lucas on Colbert

I didn't say most of the world loved Jar-Jar, I said there weren't really all that many that actually hated him.

Lucas conducted exit polls around the time of TPM and he found that Jar-Jar was actually a hit with the target audience (children) and a lot of women loved him as well. He says that most of the complaint came from 30 somethings on the Internet.

Sure, everyone "loved" (and I use that word in quotations) TPM and Jar-Jar when it came out. However, people started wising up. Go on any movie review site. Hell, check out the IMDB's entry on the film. All sorts of people slam Jar-Jar on there, regardless of whether they liked the movie or not. Then, Jar-Jar might have been funny, but now he's on the complete opposite end of the spectrum. He's a joke.
