Alien/Aliens Color Regrade (a WIP)
Time

From another thread:

There is that 1999 DVD release of Alien (1979) that has the production audio in one of the audio tracks, but the audio is not complete, as that track also has a few alternate music score cues. That feature has not been carried over to the 2003 DVD release nor the blu ray release.

Can somebody please sync this to the regraded Blu-ray and post it to the spleen? Also, are there any other bonus audio tracks like this for Alien or Aliens?

I did a little experiment, matching the colors of the last frame to Harmy’s Despecialized 2.0, and while the colors might not necessarily be accurate to an original 1981 print, it does get rid of that nasty blue noise, whilst retaining the 35mm detail:

Harmy’s Despecialized 2.0:

Poita work in progress:

Poita matched to Harmy’s Despecialized 2.0:

Notice how much detail the 35mm screengrab has compared to Harmy’s 2.0. See what I mean? It’s why I think TESB is the worst of the OT blu-ray transfers.

TESB DE 2.0 is still largely GOUT-reliant, although I do not know the exact source(s) used for this shot.

@DrDre: Looks awesome. Do you have a release date already? What about the audio tracks? I hope i could get it on myspleen 😉

Thanks! There’s no release date yet. It’s a shot by shot regrade, which is why it is very time consuming. I currently estimate it will take several months to complete, so hopefully it will be released before the end of this year. Since, the final release will be synced to the bluray, all the bluray audio tracks will be there at least. However, since the initial release will be as a mkv file, followed later by a bluray version, any number of audio tracks can be added.

Please consider including the the LD and DVD tracks. Those are original mixes (or at least very close to original). The Blu-ray track is a remix and not really in the spirit of what you are doing.

Certainly, do you have these available by any chance?

Schorman uploaded the laserdisc audio to the spleen for all three Indiana Jones films.

On myspleen. But you’ll need an invite first, if you haven’t one already.

The ISO is only on usenet, not on myspleen. There is an MKV based on the ISO that is on myspleen, though.

I’m looking at a link for the ISO on myspleen at this very moment. It says it was added on June 18.

Whoa, I didn’t know they brought it back. I guess this is the fixed version of the ISO too. Thanks for the heads up haha.

Personally, I think it’s implied that most of us own the 2011 BD set since it’s a requirement to download the Despecialized Edition in first place, so why include the discs in this anyway?

JEDIT: Here is your mockup without the 2011 discs

Disc 8: A New Hope (1977 Theatrical Version and 1981 Re-Release Version)
-Basically, just NJVC’s and Harmy’s BD-50 edition with the addition of the fanmade Death Star THX intro before the film (maybe omit the foreign dubs, not sure)
-Also Family Guy: Blue Harvest is the original censored TV version

Disc 9: A New Hope (1997 Special Edition and 2004 DVD Version)
-Making of the Special Edition
-Hardware Wars (both Original and Special Edition versions)

Team Negative1 - The Empire Strikes Back 1980 - 35mm Theatrical Version (Released)

There is also a listing on the spleen for audio tracks taken from the Despecialized v2.0 MKV that include the 1980 Stereo mix reconstruction. In my opinion, that’s the best way to watch these without having a high quality capture of the original mix. The optical track is decent enough, but it’s also untouched.
