Actually, I have decided to do Jedi first for my restorations, as it has definitely been the most neglected, and has arguably the most objectional changes with that horrible dance number (replacing the slightly less horrible original one) and the Hayden ghost mess at the end. I don't like Jedi as much, apart from the space scenes which are incredible, but it needs a proper restoration done.
Forgive my ignorance, but what exactly are you doing with your restorations that is different from Team -1? I follow most of the big threads and yours is one of them but I'm confused as to what makes yours unique from theirs.

May as well ask this here.
What's the best way to watch ROTJ OOT? Harmy's DeEd 1.0 is awfully spartan and obviously incomplete, so I'm wondering what's the next best thing.
TeamBlu did some nice upscales of the GOUT, which is a bit more consistent in image quality than the DeEds, though it's sub-HD. Puggo has a 16mm scan of the film coming out soon enough, and Harmy's 2.0 ROTJ is currently being worked on, along with Team Negative1's 35mm scans. However, this film is probably the most neglected of the three when it comes to preservation efforts.
Wait, there are Team Blu upscales for the whole trilogy? I thought only Star Wars was available.
There are DVD-grade upscales for the whole trilogy but only Star Wars has received a 720p upscale, I believe.

I'm following all of those closely. And yeah it seems to take back seat to SW and ESB with every major effort to preserve the trilogy unless it's something like a Laserdisc preservation, which are subpar to a videophile like me. (Not to say they have no worth - they do, but I'm looking for something that won't make my picky eyes bleed.)
I guess the GOUT upscale will have to do for the moment. I've got all the various audio selections for it so I don't have to limit myself to the stereo mix.

I wish people would realize that Toei is not going to save the franchise. It's the Lucasfilm of anime. They'll never embrace the original version. Leave it to the fans/collectors to restore and release it all.
How much of the Japanese broadcast audio is dispersed? I've seen episode 95 as well as 1 and maybe 2 on nyaa. And then there's the Big Box CD which contains CD-quality mixes of episodes 229 and 237.
I know about all the dubs you mentioned extensively. It's maddening to most, but I've organized them all in my head and on a spreadsheet.
I'm here, keep your pants on.

Dragon Ball Z is the Star Wars of anime, both in a cultural sense and in a Funimation-is-George-Lucas sense.
What do you think of the Dragon Boxes?
I think they're great, but not perfect. In Star Wars terms, the closest analogue I can make is that they're like the GOUT of Dragon Ball Z, but instead of the ghosting and motion smearing preserved from the 1993 LD transfer it has poorly aged colors and muffled optical audio that sounds like it was encoded underwater. It's the best we have in terms of complete, clean, uncut DBZ.
Also I would try to put us back on topic but what even is the topic since Harmy has completed the Respecialized version for this thread? Anyway I might move this discussion to the non-Star Wars board.

Can someone please send me a link or point me in the right direction of where to download this? Love your work on Despecialized Harmy, would love to see V and VI Respecialized as well!
Apologies in advance, I'm a newb here. Finally joined up today.
He'll make V and VI when they reach the 2.5 mark. I believe he said that this one only took a matter of a couple of days to put together.
I know you're new (so am I relatively) but the thing to do would be to PM just about anybody on this forum for an invite.
Well said and just to give every new member a heads up the protocol is to PM Frink for any invitation request, or just for any question in general. Keep in mind he's famous for the whole "there's no such thing as a stupid question" thing and he absolutely loves it and is happy to help out. When I was new I had like a million questions and I PM'd Frink for literally every single one and he was super helpful.
So I'm still relatively new and I'm not sure if that's a joke but if it isn't then that's good to know.
Also let me just take a quick moment to say that everybody on this forum is the best. I'm a member of at least three other forums that are not nearly as friendly and even familial as OT.com. So kudos to you guys for being awesome.

So I guess the top post never gets updated anymore, huh?
Where will you upload the final product?

Team Negative 1, is this IB print the one you're using for your excelent project?
http://fd.noneinc.com/savestarwarscom/savestarwars.com/technicoloribscreening.html
Somebody on the forum has already taken the colors from an IB print for future color correction efforts.
It would be nice to recreate a Pan & Scan version using something like the Despecialized version as a source or perhaps even a high quality preservation instead of just a reconstruction. Pan & Scan is how a lot of people first saw the films and they deserve that bit of nostalgia for them just as fans who saw the films in theaters deserve theirs.
Can you explain to me what part of the process the "first pass" is? And the other parts of the process as well too? I keep seeing these posts from you guys but I don't have much background in film or film restoration/scanning so I'm kind of lost.

Has some poor soul out there got a 35mm print of TPM?
Not to sound like a broken record but some of you really need to get around the forum a bit and read. Us old timers have to do it to keep up, you should too.
I'm the one you should be calling a broken record with all these questions I've been asking in the threads lately. I'll try to lurk moar. Thanks.

Alright the corrected 48khz release should be hitting the web soon.
I will say that unless you are intending to watch/release on a disc format, the 44.1khz files are fine and are technically truer to the original source.
However, due to some friends that have far deeper pockets to fill their PCs with cool software than I do - I am releasing this as a full DTS-HD track (and a 448kbps AC3 for DVD releases.)
Will you include the Adywan reconstruction with it? I don't want to have to download two torrents if I don't have to because of ratio BS (even if it is minute).
Ratio is part of the deal if you want to torrent. Why make the uploader work harder when they are the one supplying the goods?
clutchins said:
Now if only somebody would upload his ESB 1080p '97 SE Reconstruction.
As far as I know even Adywan hasn't uploaded this yet because I don't believe he's gotten to it though I could be wrong.
It's just nice to have everything in one place. But I see your point.
And ESB is on usenet but, back to my previous point, it's easier to have it on myspleen.
What exactly is this going to be synced to, if anything? The Laserdisc or maybe even Adywan's Reconstruction?

Funny, I recently downloaded an "Adywans Theatrical Phantom Menace with Cinema DTS.mkv" from Myspleen. I would know because of their "3 days worth of seeding or bust" policy.
Oh yeah I forgot that he put out the rough sync with that.
Now if only somebody would upload his ESB 1080p '97 SE Reconstruction.
The way I see it is that the '04 and '11 editions are inevitably some children's first ever viewings of the films. It's not unlike the days of watching the films on P&S VHS or even the P&S DVDs. They might be inaccurate, nonstandard versions of the films (albeit for different reasons), but somebody watched them for the very first time with Jabba in ANH and with Hayden Christensen in ROTJ. That's their version just like the originals are our version. I for one watched the 2000 VHS rerelease of '97 version in what I'm pretty sure was P&S. I don't have any VHS tapes left in my house but if I had any nostalgia for the format I would buy that set back instantly and put it with my other Star Wars releases and preservations.
I think oftentimes people here forget that point, and while they are wholly entitled to their opinions of the Special Editions, they also forget about "everybody else" for lack of a better term. And to qualify my statement, I agree with most everybody here that the Special Editions are a stain on the franchise, but I am not going to forget about them outright and wish for their exclusion in any upcoming sets.
Remember, those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it!
What are the shots in all three movies that have no better source than the GOUT?
