Why not? Do they get all twisted-up about it or something? haha

Because it's not scanned in 4k. Read the thread.

That's not what we were talking about.  Read the rest of the forum.

Team Olie

How does that change the fact that the Negative 1 project isn't scanned in 4k?

I thought it was scanned in 4K and then downsampled several times to 1080p.

Error when ripping 2011 ANH BD - bad disc?
Time

I tried to rip ANH in AnyDVD HD to an image file but it crapped out on me at 29%. The write rate dropped from about 8MB/s avg. to as low as 0.02MB/s. Then I got an error saying certain sectors were missing or something to that effect.

Do I have a bad disc?

Also, I apologize if this is the wrong section to post this in. I'm not sure where I should be taking this problem.

EDIT: Here's the log

We've mentioned a few times we have the 81 Crawl scanned in HD, and will be including it as an extra on our release.

Could you offer it in a seamless branching feature?

I didn't do all six films in the end, just the 97SE trilogy. They sync to the standards that a few of us figured out between us a while back. The NTSC laserdiscs aren't all we've got and are actually missing frames. The digital broadcasts are far more complete, as are the PAL laserdiscs and after comparing the various releases together we discovered that between them they are frame accurate to the official DVD and Blu-Ray releases. The only exception was a single missing frame in TESB, which we decided to include as the standard because it would conform to the DVD video frame count.

I don't have TPM on laserdisc, so my only source for that would be the digital broadcast of the theatrical version. Frame counts for the prequels weren't discussed at the time, and I never investigated them properly because I find it very difficult to watch them without sighing in disappointment throughout most of the films. I might have a crack at them some day, but I don't know whether there is enough of a difference between the lossless tracks on the Blu-Ray's (at least for AOTC and ROTS) to actually be worthwhile.

I'm not sure if you refer to actually owning the laserdisc or just a preservation, but you should grab althor's Japanese Laserdisc on myspleen. The laserdisc is the theatrical cut so you could theoretically synch it to that. AOTC doesn't have a "theatrical" version released aside from the bootleg recording which is undoubtedly missing frames.

Thanks for that, will you release each in 6 mono wav files?

I was planning on DTS-HD so that people can mux it with a conformed video should they want to. The standard that they are conformed to was discussed in the Special Edition preservation standards  thread a long time ago. That said, I will make them available to you privately in any format you need so that you can adjust them if necessary.

If you did all six films, what would they each synch to?

I imagine the 97SE would synch to the laserdiscs since that's all we got basically. TPM would also use the Japanese laserdisc in that case. ROTS could use either the DVD or Blu-ray I suppose. So really all I'm asking is how about AOTC.

Info Wanted: Best ROTJ preservations/reconstructions

I think this thread would be more helpful if limited to RotJ only - even just listing preservations for SW and ESB is going to throw it off topic.

Q2s RotJ is a worthy consideration as well.

RotP is in the works.

Poita is going to be working on RotJ first.

Team Blu is working towards an eventual blu upscale.

DrDre is rendering SW superresolution as we speak I believe, and. He has stated intentions to do ESB and RotJ as well

I was just illustrating the lack of high quality ROTJ preservations compared to the other two films. You're right, let's get back to ROTJ!

Info Wanted: Best ROTJ preservations/reconstructions
Time

I’ve just finished my viewings of all the Despecialized films in their current form (at the time of this post SW 2.5, ESB 2.0, and ROTJ 1.0) and I’ve also been grabbing all sorts of other preservations from the spleen and other places. And to preface this post, I have been following Harmy’s progress on ROTJ for a while and am up to date on the thread.

ROTJ is my favorite film of the trilogy but sadly it seems to be the most neglected in the world of fan preservations and reconstructions. I want to know if there is a decent version of the 1983 original version or 1997 SE versions either released or currently underway (preferably in at least 720p).

In terms of high quality preservations and reconstructions, I currently have:

*Harmy’s DeEd (obviously)

Harmy’s Respecialized ANH

*Dark Jedi’s GOUT V3

Team Blu’s GOUT 720p Upscale

Team Blu’s ANH97SE

Ady’s ESB Theatrical Reconstruction

Ady’s ESB 1997 SE

*schorman’s 1080p HDTV Preservations

Reivax, *G’Kar, *TB, and Flunk

Of those listed, ROTJ appears fewer times than SW and ESB. I’d especially like to see something akin to the GOUT upscale and 97 SE preservations. ROTJ is the only film that doesn’t have a decent 1997 preservation outside of TB and G’Kar, which are not quite perfect, we’ll say.

Hm, perhaps.

The Ocean dubbed movies are on R1, I don't think there would be an advantage to Pioneer LDs for those.

I think the ideal versions are probably early Funi DVDs, which would be open matte (4:3) and unrestored. If we could find 16s or 35s of THOSE though...

The best I've ever found is just VHS recordings of Toonami. Good luck finding anything else.

I've got all 6 CD-ROM files from the usual newsy place but has anybody decoded and synced them to anything?

If you read through this thread it has been stated that others have synched audio already.  In fact, TPM just got a synch recently as well.

:)

I saw NSP's TPM job and listened to it on Adywan and I gotta say it's very good! I hope we can see the other five soon and have them uploaded to the organ. Also, is his ANH sync to the BD also synced to the DVD? I seem to have read in the 1997 standards thread (I'm busy updating myself on the progress of that thread and the the various subthreads) that the DVD is the frame standard for ANH97SE.

JEDIT: I'm a dang idiot. I have the ANH DTS already in the Team Blu ANH 97 BD25.

Actually, I have decided to do Jedi first for my restorations, as it has definitely been the most neglected, and has arguably the most objectional changes with that horrible dance number (replacing the slightly less horrible original one) and the Hayden ghost mess at the end. I don't like Jedi as much, apart from the space scenes which are incredible, but it needs a proper restoration done.

Forgive my ignorance, but what exactly are you doing with your restorations that is different from Team -1? I follow most of the big threads and yours is one of them but I'm confused as to what makes yours unique from theirs.

Just a different take on the same thing really. I'm scanning from multiple 35mm prints and restoring them, I do it for a living and think I do reasonable work, and am using very high grade scanners.

Both will end up looking very different, you may prefer one over the other, or not like either. I think -1 will end up getting their's done first, I am not in any hurry, but I am changing my focus to work on Jedi first, it has issues I already have developed tools to tackle, and the sources are in better shape than for the other two films.

Ah, I see. Well good luck to you and your work! I really appreciate all the work that goes on here. It's like a hive of bees.
