I like the final HDR grade.
I like the final HDR grade.
There’s no confirmed voice cast for LEGO Skywalker Saga, but after Battlefront 2 used the TCW cast, it’d strike me as odd if this game didn’t. The Holiday Special used Matt Lanter, Dee Bradley Baker and JAT for their TCW roles, at least. On the other hand, Droid Tales didn’t use the TCW cast, so there are pre-established LEGO VAs for the prequel/TCW/Rebels characters that LEGO could fall back to (but I for one would be disappointed if they went that route). I definitely wouldn’t expect any actual movie actors - except the eternal Anthony Daniels - because I seriously doubt they’re contractually obliged to do this one.
Like Anthony Daniels as 3PO, Billy Dee Williams always seems to be happy to voice Lando in literally anything. But then, if I was Lando Calrissian, so would I.
If you’re listing samples in the main post, you might as well link to these:

I can’t tell any difference from the original on the Rey’s Dad one, I’m afraid! Still, a good find that someone has at least attempted it.
Here’s an idea: Alternate Ascension. Someone should take all the ideas that were considered but ultimately decided against for Ascendant - even ones you don’t necessarily agree with - and put all of those into an edit. A mirror image of Ascendant, if you will. There’s certainly no shortage of ideas to implement.
Also, to carry over discussion from the Ascendant thread: I like Rey using a tiny burst of Force Lightning when she shoves Finn, and if anyone does the VFX, I’d edit it into a personal cut of the movie if I ever make one.
Shower thought I just had:
I know plenty of people have tried to salvage the “I am Iron Man” one liner by trimming it into various forms, but has anyone tried dubbing it over with something else?
I imagine that by muting the audio and just looking at the lip movements, there’d have to be other things which could a) match convincingly, and b) be a better pair of lines.
I have no idea what they’d say instead, or whether you’d use audio of the actors or just find good soundalikes of Rey and Palpatine, but it’s worth at least a cursory investigation, right? Even just to rule it out?
I tried throwing in “I’m no one” over the shot of her getting the saber. People didn’t like it, although that could be partially due to a rough audio mix.
I don’t remember seeing this - do you have a link?
“Moff Jerjerrod”
Note: After doing this test I realized why Adywan decided against doing it 😦
“Obi-Wan’s Lightsaber…”
Instead of Luke bringing his saber to Vader, he goes unarmed. Vader decides to show Luke one of his trinkets from the past.
And here’s the one that I’m really excited about:

Luke takes Vaders saber from his belt, then this happens:
Was this lightsaber swap ever done for the whole scene? Or just this one proof-of-concept shot?
Update: now released!
Is there anywhere remaining that we need a line of regular-voiced dialogue recorded (ie, not a C-3PO impression etc)?
If there is, I reckon I could get a pretty fun vocal cameo from someone Star Wars related whom I won’t presently name.
EBSynth is pretty much a “style” transfer deepfake, wherein it animates a scene using the style of another artist, or using a scene thats been repainted to match a different style. See the video below for further clarification:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fILG1J6gMBsUsing this concept, we can pretty much transfer the “style” (which in this case is the single frame still image of ROTJ Jabba edited into ANH CGI Jabba) to the entire video and animate it using AI. Sorry if it’s a bit convoluted but after you watch the video, you’ll see what I mean.
That’s a good explanation, and the video demonstrates it well too. Thank you!
I don’t know anything about EBSynth - could it be possibly used to replace heads/faces similar to a deepfake, at least for limited shots?
Also, this isn’t related to anything at all, but you know when Rey and Kylo are dueling on the Death Star, and Rey turns around and pushes Finn back? I was thinking it might be cool to have lightning shoot out and hit Finn, rather than a Jedi-like Force Push (kind of like when Snoke threw Kylo back in TLJ, he did it with a burst of lightning). Just like with the lightsaber sputtering out, it would symbolize that she’s dangerously close to losing control (something I never really felt in the theatrical version), and it would help to build to her stabbing Kylo in a cheap shot and then wanting to flee. (REY: “I’m here because I had a vision of myself on the Sith Throne.” LUKE: “Rey, that was 90 minutes ago! You haven’t even used any Sith powers since Pasaana, and that was four locations back!”)
God, just imagine it - the rain, the crackly saber, the bleak Duel of the Fates music…Rey accidentally loses control and shoots lightning at her friend (again), and then a minute later the legendary Skywalker Saber - that she failed to rebuild - starts to sputter out. She has utterly failed as a Jedi. It’s genuinely her lowest point in the film - makes a whole lot more sense why she would suddenly be so scared that she goes into hiding on Ahch-To.
UGH, I LOVE THIS.
Please let this become a reality.
+1
Heres a new breakthrough in Deepfake technology: Lip-sync and vocal synthesis and stitching done in less than a minute.
I presume this can be really useful in a lot of cases, letting the actors say what we want them to say through the use of AI.
Even the first video they pulled the bait-and-switch with is kind of unconvincing; my initial reaction was that they must have intentionally chosen a video with already bad lip sync as a base to make their result look better by comparison. But it’s early days into the technology, and this is a big step forwards; give it five years and it’ll probably be flawless.
Another update:
Due to some big life changes, I’m having to put this on pause for the foreseeable future. Hopefully I’ll be able to get back to it in a month or two.
I can assure you that it’s not being abandoned! I’m excited to pick it up where I left off, but I’m not going to be able to fit any hobbies in for a while. I still consider this a “WIP” rather than “on hiatus.”
Can we maybe agree on a blanket ban on saying ideas belong in the Worst Edit Ideas thread? I understand that people generally say it as joke, but it’s not a particularly positive or constructive thing for someone to hear when they float an idea.
I’m not going to have the time any more to do the graffiti for the Kijimi composites, sadly. So if anyone else wants to take the reigns on that, feel free.
I could try my hand at incorporating it if Hal or someone provided the video for where they would want the graffiti.
I haven’t had time to draw any designs to incorporate into the footage, I mean - some unexpected big life changes happened this week (nothing bad!), and as a result I’m not going to have time for any hobbies for at least the next month or so. If nobody else has drawn anything when I eventually get the time, I’ll definitely still draw a design, but I’m not trying to call “dibs” or anything that might slow the process down!
I agree with Jar, having a young Ian McDiarmid as Rey’s father would be a small change that would make a big improvement.
Also, just for fun, I’d love to see a) young Alex Guinness and young Sebastian Shaw deepfaked into the PT, and b) James Arnold Taylor and Matt Lanter deepfaked into the PT.

It’s so far in the background that I wouldn’t have noticed if you hadn’t pointed it out. I personally wouldn’t worry about removing it for continuity.
For me, Shaw is Anakin. I love Hayden’s performance in the PT and Matt’s performance in TCW, but I grew up with Anakin being the guy under the Vader helmet and the Force Ghost at the end of ROTJ.
IIRC, Hal’s said that he thinks Hayden Christensen as Anakin is a better fit for TROS, and I actually agree with that. It feels more like something that could have been plausibly released in cinemas by Disney in 2019, and for a project like this, that verisimilitude is important. But having the additional option of a Shaw version? Man, I felt genuinely emotional when I first saw jonh’s Phantom Four shot; I’d probably well up if I saw a version with Sebastian Shaw Anakin.
No, no, no. Replace him with an aged up Matt Lanter. /s
To help tie ROTJ to TROS, add Obi-Wan’s force ghost to the throne room after Vader throws Palpatine down the reactor shaft, using footage from ANH to make him say, “Palpatine are easily startled, but they’ll soon be back, and in greater numbers.”
I like Sherlock’s edit of that line. Incidentally, what Octorox says is also the reason given in the TROS novelisation.
I’d like to watch a workprint of this once it’s at that stage, if possible.
