For the “just” word, would a soft “d” sound fix it?

I think the whole Rey Palpatine touches on Rey being afraid of herself or her power. It’s been there throughout, and I guess it’s meant to spark this.

But when it comes to actually watching the movie, it is just a red herring that just tends to eliminate all subtlety.

Fuck Rey Palptine. Rey Nobody or bust. I’m in.

A simple side idea that may have been talked about either on this thread or Hals … but I kinda wanted to sell that the “Sith” troopers are clones … which could help sell why there were so many of them. There is not a lot of footage of the red troopers, so there was one spot I used a republic commando sound file to incorporate a simple line and a grunt.

I wanted a simple line so people can pick up on it since a grunt sound is so quick and people wouldn’t catch it … but I dunno if it makes it either silly or too “fan edit-y”

I wonder why the Fett clones would resurface after the Empire phased them out, though.

If his face could be added to any underlings during the destruction of Kijimi maybe that’d be enough to subtly tip off that way of addressing the problem to fans. Not sure how possible that’d really be.

EDIT: There’s only two real people in the scene, and the rest are helmeted cardboard cutouts. No real opportunity to shove in more clone audio. But… hmmm… might be something to think about.

I’m finding myself much more willing to just go along with whatever works where I used to be continuity conscious. I guess TROS just makes no fucking sense, so whatever works!

Well, would anyone be willing to play with a few things?

  • removing the little crackle of electricity as we first see Palpatine’s hands

  • Making Rey’s hand-lightning in the desert somewhat yellow

@Hal’s first post

Reasonable question about why use them. The main reasons I came up with playing with this idea was …

1.) Already crazy that Palps has a Sith butt load of ships. With that butt load, you need even more butt loads of people for both piloting … and troops. Lots of them. Cloning helps with that.

2.) Cloning is brought back, a la Palps. He is a clone … so he and his crew still have the cloning ability, so why not?

3.) For “movie” cannon, viewers watching these movies know that “That voice is a clones voice!” so we connect that dot.

4.) In TFA, Kylo mocks Hux about using a clone army, inferring that the FO method may not be as good as clones.

5.) We like clones.

That’s about it. It is more of a fill in the gap on why the heck there are so many “baddies” out of no where. TROS already doesn’t make sense and we all understand we have to let go of common sense, but this is a minor thing that is easy to implement.

There aren’t really any other scenes to add these clone sounds, since we are talking about like 10 seconds worth of Sith troop footage. I did add a Wilhelm scream when a group of them were grenaded by Jana … but that’s all I got.

As for Hals second post: I would LOVE to see Rey’s lighting be yellow. (Also remove the crackle, but the yellow lighting is a cool concept.

I would also think it would be cool at the end, with Jonh’s footage using the Force Ghost to help out Rey, having the final lighting push back be white or something would be neat too.

What’s the motivation for making Rey’s lightning yellow?

Author

Right, okay. So the Fett clones were all phased out…
But Palpy wants to bring a clone army back…
So,
In all of Palpy’s immense wisdom…
He decides to do the only logical thing and yet again, clone the same guy who died over 60 years ago despite the fact that he possesses very few special abilities and there is already a large enough First Order army as well as an entire planet (Exegol) of humans who have already devoted their lives to him to a point where they literally resurrected him.

The Fett clones came from Kamino, so why would these clones on Exegol turn out the same?

Also, the cloners on Exegol have proven that they can clone force sensitive people, so if you wanted to clone an entire army, why wouldn’t you create an army of Sith lords instead of Jangos? That would beat the cavalry!

Hal, I know you just made it quite clear that you only want a Rey Nobody edit, but would it be possible to still have an optional file without those changes?

I’ve been advocating for this exact thing for awhile. I believe it would help logically explain who is manning the Sith Fleet. It would help link the prequels to sequels and make the films feel like a more cohesive saga. Also it goes hand in hand with Palpatine’s own cloning in TRoS. I’m not an FX expert like many of my fellow posters, but I’d love to hear the voice of the prequel clones or even a deepfake of “Jango’s” face on the bridge crew of the Sith Fleet Star Destroyers.

@chase you are thinking too hard 😉

Simple reason: connect prequels (a la after Hal’s edit) and explain the insane numbers.

I may “simplify it” and just add the grunt as an Easter egg for those who recognize the voice.

Oh, baby.

Re: yellow lightning. The idea is to deplete that moment of its original meaning of tying her to Palpatine. Since the lightning represents the inner darkness she fears, building a saber with a yellow blade at the end could be seen as her having accepted and integrated this into herself, reaching a sense of balance.

Re: clones. Ideally somebody, anybody’s face could be shown on a small group of people in like one shot aboard the Sith Fleet ships. Obviously with what we have to work with having Temuera Morrison’s voice is about the only viable shorthand with which we can telegraph that these are clones, but it raises questions. Moreso if one is into the EU, as clones had to be phased out over time.

Wow, I didn’t think I would be convinced of this idea so quickly. If no one tries to make this change I’ll try to help out with it.

I think it depends on what angle you want to approach the Final Order. Are you gonna keep the Final Order as its own thing, or does the First Order just assimilate the resources of the Sith Eternal.

If the Final Order is meant to be a fully-functional military, then I think the Sith Troopers being clones would be a fun Easter egg and a simple explanation for how they built an army in secret.

Ok here is a “more subtle” approach to it. It’ll be something that a person may or may not notice the voice for it. If this route is better, or at least agreeable, there is a variety of “grunt” clips I can use.

Thank goodness for Republic Commando and those who take the time to make these sound clip resources.

The Palpatine clones shots have been rendered and posted to the “Master Clips” folder on my drive. PM me if you don’t have the link!

There’s three versions, one with green bacta, one with red, and one with red that has larger bodies and less murkiness (a specific request).

Palpatine Clones - Green
Palpatine Clones - Red
Palpatine Clones - Red - No Murkiness

Awesome! Great work Poppasketti!
But is there a green with no murkiness?

Just rechecked your original request and fixed it! It’s there now!

I am leaning towards the no Murkiness, it seems like the heads pop out too much, kinda like “hey, look at my face!” while the full body ones seems more … natural? (Terrible word choice)

As for you Chase, with the whole “Why clone Jango when you can clone more force sensitive/palps” … the logic the movie is showing that trying to clone force sensitive/ Sith Lords is they degrade bad. Really bad.

But then again, trying to rely too much on logic is not productive for this movie. 😉

looks like the problems with the body proportions been been fixed, so I’ll go with no murkiness, Red.

Whatever flavor you like! Looking at it again, I’m actually going to tone down the murkiness on the regular ones and repost so the heads don’t pop so much. Just wanted to introduce a little haziness (it is haze) to cover the bodies a little bit and leave more to the imagination.

Awesome stuff. Thanks again.

Maybe I was too hasty is telling off Rey Palpatine. I don’t like that plot point, but from a fan editing POV I’m ambivalent.

I think two versions will be likely. I’d like to try to execute that idea as well as possible.

One teesy thing would be to leave Kylo’s revelation at “You’re his granddaughter.” No “You are a Palpatine.”

I do think yellow lightning could still be cool in a Rey Palpatine version.

I was spending some time today figuring out how I could pull off yellow lightning for you, but it seems it would require tons of frame by frame masking as we are dealing with thin, blue and white elements against a blue and white background. I do however wonder if Skenera would be able to do it, after seeing what they had done with Leia’s saber!

What do you think Skenera? Is it as difficult as I say it is? 🤔

Good idea cutting the “You’re a Palpatine” line.

I’d also suggest cutting the “my parents were strong” bull if you do Rey Palpatine. Do her parents really have to be noble and sacrifice themselves for her?

I guess if you kept the parents flashback stuff you have to show them embracing Rey with sad expressions and tearful eyes, telling her she’ll be safe in indentured servitude to a talking blobfish.
