Remove Yoda from ESB. The Force is better when it’s more mystical and ambiguous, like it was in ANH. Having a character sit down and explain its powers to the main character ruins it.
DanielDubb and I are still tackling the final “I… am a Jedi” line, so there might be more to come on that one.
Also, I’ve still got to finish the Jedi Voices scene. I just need to find the time to do it, but thanks to covid I’ve been really busy at work, and my downtime is currently spent finishing an unrelated edit for my son to watch. That’s almost finished, though, and then the Jedi Voices scene is next cab off the rank.
That might be very difficult to rotoscope, but, if everyone is okay with me doing an exceptionally bad job of it, it’s doable! (Not that I anticipate much of my visual additions to be good, but I figure that’s not really the point of this whole endeavour.)
I figured you’d do the whole thing with G5 style animated sprites overlaid on the actual film.
Oh, yeah! I forgot that I’d be cutting that along with every fight scene. My plan is to do it in Pokémon Showdown, since I can set that up with custom match-ups and control the outcome.
Very important question time: who is Holdo’s partner pokémon?

I really want to end my TLJ edit by irising out on the group shot of the Resistance inside the Falcon, but the shot isn’t long enough to fit the music. It’s only a few seconds too short - I’ve seen people here extend shots using interpolation software, but I don’t have the technical know-how to do it myself; is there anyone who could give it a crack?
Also, my own answer is the Wallace and Gromit theme.

Very random thought, and one I believe I’ve suggested before:
In the movie’s final scene, I think it would be interesting to create a new shot of Tatooine’s yellow sun coming over the horizon, and placing that at some point near when Rey activates her yellow lightsaber. I recall a lot of people wondering why they went with yellow for Rey’s saber color, and I think by placing the imagery of the yellow sun rising near Rey displaying her yellow lightsaber could help make the symbolism clearer. And to clarify, I think the yellow is meant represent a bright, and hopeful future, as well as Rey representing a new dawn for the Jedi.
Also, I don’t really know if I would prefer it or not, but I would be interested to see if we could change the final interaction between her and the old lady to go like this:
WOMAN: There’s been no one for so long. Who are you?
Rey looks over at the ghosts of the Skywalkers, then looks back.
REY: A Skywalker.
Or, you could still have her say “Rey Skywalker” and cut the old lady interrogating Rey and asking for her first name, last, date of birth, etc… haha. I just thought “A Skywalker” could be an interesting answer, because you could interpret it as Rey taking the last name, or that she is creating a new order called “Skywalker” and she is claiming that title. Maybe that would seem contradictory or redundant after Rey saying “I’m a Jedi” at the climax.
I like all of this.

Should I:
A) Release a V1 with all of the current “dialogue reduction” trims, without the additional story changes and VFX changes I’m currently waiting on, and leave those for an eventual V2?
B) Wait until those are complete, which could potentially be never, the workprint with unfinished shots in place is fine until then?
It’s certainly more of a thread for jokes on the premise rather than genuinely believable suggestions these days, but a) there’s the occasional diamond in the latter category and b) I like jokes.

I don’t think the creators of SC38 ever intended it to be edited into ANH; it’s meant to be its own standalone piece of media.
I’m very much a Theatrical Edition purist when it comes to ANH, but if I was going reshoot the Ben vs Darth duel, I’d do a short, terse, Kurosawa style kendo/samurai fight - like Rebels eventually did with Kenobi vs Maul.

I really like SC38 as a standalone short fan-film. I’d rather have interesting and unorthodox fan-films like that, or story-driven little films like Birth of a Monster, than Look At My Jedi OC And My Cool Lightsaber In This Bad Fight Scene version 4,398,289 on YouTube.
A sudden thought upon rewatching that “I am a Jedi” clip: could we get a noticeably audible Skywalker Saber ignition sound in there?
When she catches Anakin’s/Luke’s/Rey’s saber behind her back, it’s turned off, and then when things go silent and she says “… am a Jedi,” she pulls it up already turned on. I think it would be nice if, after she says “I am a Jedi,” right as she pulls up the saber, we hear it loudly ignite off-screen as the sound that breaks the silence of the moment (rather than the growing crackle of the lightning).
It would really solidify her declaration of being a Jedi, and the idea that she’s taking up the Skywalker legacy, if in that moment we clearly hear that iconic, distinctive lightsaber sound, for the final time.
I’ll try that when I get the chance - the hum of a lightsaber that’s just been activated might be enough to disguise it successfully. The ignition sound doesn’t even need to cross over the dialogue, the hum would be a better sound anyway.
Edit: I misunderstood your comment, BUT, I think the way I interpreted it might solve the problem! I’m imagining:
“And I…” (SNAP-hiss, vrmmm) “…am a Jedi.”
I quite like this idea. Sometimes the best option is the most straightforward one.
First time listening to this: I think the only part that needs work is “am a”, it’s said pretty quickly and sounds just a little bit clippy. But the audio of the rest of the scene works great, and the line itself is a fantastic change
Sorry, missed this earlier. I know clarifying the “am” was something that Cap was working on (my version just used the “am” from the original line); “a” has been the elusive part of the whole thing though. It’s such a short, mushy sound in the first place - it tends to blur into whatever words are surrounding it, making a clean extraction difficult - and the original line reading is pretty quick already, so I don’t think there’s much that can be done in that regard. But I’ll at least try to smooth out the clippiness some more. Thanks for the feedback!
I’ve reached a stage where I don’t think any more can be done with my sources than what I’ve already done, short of adding some electrical crackling SFX over the scene that could conveniently mask the slight hum on that phoneme. The only other option is to delve into Daisy Ridley interviews and try and grab the entire word, but for the reasons you point out, that’s a hard task.
Delete the entire movie and watch Kieślowski’s Three Colours trilogy instead. But when it reaches the runtime for Star Wars, stop watching.
Just jumping in again to ask if Captain Faraday has managed to make any more progress with the Jedi voices scene… Are you still having those same issues mate? I can always take a look at it if you’re needing a second opinion on something.
I haven’t had the chance to have a look at it, but it shouldn’t be more than an hour’s work on my end to finish it. I’ve been pressed for time for hobbies due to Real Life Stuff happening.

Add the Simon and Garfunkel song “Baby Driver” to the theatrically soundtrackless podracing scene, to tie the concept of racing to foreshadowing Anakin and Padme’s relationship in the next two films.
