Sade1212’s are all mixed into a fully serviceable 5.1 mix. The clips CaptainFaraday sent me yesterday are not, and there are surround channels that have an echo of the original line and its placement. If sherlock can provide me with his fine-tuned take on things even just as the center channel, I’ll see whether it can be implanted into the mix.

Again, they all sound amazing and I’d be happy with any of them. I think CaptainFaraday’s has the slight edge, so hopefully an isolated version of the complete line can be presented.

I’ll send you a message to figure out exactly what I need to export to give you just the isolated clips to mix in.

I think the whole mix is a bit like a Rubik’s cube. If one part gets changed, the other parts sound different by recontextualisation, even if they haven’t been changed themselves. It’s such a tricky delivery to work with as well, and there’s no good source for any of the exact phonemes we need.

The big difficulty is getting the “æ” sound in the Received Pronunciation accented “am” to stop sounding like an “aɪ” sound which turns the word into “I’m”.

That means the only things left to do on this entire edit are:

• VFX insert shot of the plomme bloom. My friend is working on this, but he has about as much spare time as I do, so this’ll probably be the longest wait.
• Rose’s “shuttle” line. What I have isn’t working, so, I’m going to let ideas for it percolate in the back of my head. Really, I only need audio of Rose saying “The shuttle!” and the rest is clear from context, which seems doable. Any suggestions are welcome!
• Audio removal issues. The lightsaber humming in the third flashback and the music cue when Finn and Rose say “The Master Codebreaker!”. I’m okay with just using the music cue in the second as a comedy sting - it might be distracting to people who remember the original context of the music, but all I can do is work towards the theoretical “watching this edit for the first time on opening night” audience. The lightsaber humming is the bigger issue, since his saber is now off when he says those lines, and I don’t know how to remove it, if such a thing is possible. It’s present on the dialogue channel.

So far I’ve only used it for two shots, to eke an extra second or two of footage out of them. I figure it’s something to use sparingly rather than rely on too hard, in case I let it become my only option for something and then it doesn’t work for it.

I have now got access to Premiere Pro CC’s optical flow tool, which means I can extend shots seamlessly.

I have exported my I Am A Jedi line mix audio! Message me for a link.

I’m going to try one last thing with it if I get the chance, plus, I’ll try and get the Sors Bandeam line done sometime this week (although I’m happy to outsource that to someone).

I just realised - I still have to finish the Jedi Voices scene. If someone wants to help or take over with that, the main thing left to do is use interpolation to extend one shot slightly.

Apparently Premiere Pro CC can do it, which is what I have on my work laptop, so I can try it myself later this week when I do the audio exporting, if nobody else wants to run with it.

So, just to recap, my remaining jobs are:

• Export “I am a Jedi” current audio
• Try one last idea with the “I am a Jedi” line and present it here for consideration
• Finish the Jedi Voices scene.

Instead of changing Holdo’s hair colour to remove its real-world queer coding, normalise it in-universe by changing random characters’ hair colours in the OT to similarly vibrant shades. (Eg. General Rieekan, Admiral Motti, Uncle Owen, etc.)

A quick update on the I Am A Jedi audio:

I was all geared up to export it all today in my lunch break, and then… there was a huge storm overnight and work was cancelled because the power was out to the building. Of all the days.

But, I’ll definitely get it done sometime this week. I’ll just stay up one night and do it. There’s one final change I want to try making, so I’ll do that too and present it here if I think it works at all. Otherwise, Hal and Sherlock, expect a Google Drive link sometime within the week.

I still haven’t sent my individual files to Sherlock - BUT! - I might actually have my first chance to sit and export it all for him (and others) tomorrow during my lunch break at work. Fingers crossed!

Re-render the opening crawls so the text moves towards the viewer instead of away from them.

To accentuate the themes of hope across the saga, change “I have a bad feeling about this” to “I have a good feeling about this,” and apply the snapchat smiling filter to the character speaking.

Thank you for the kind words everyone! I’m surprised and touched. Working on the puppet show was a highlight for me as well, and I’m so happy that I was a part of it. I’ll definitely hang around and read threads when I can, and I can’t switch off the part of my brain that comes up with Worst Edit Ideas, so I’ll be around even if I’m not super active.

I haven’t been able to export the audio files yet, but, it’s on my to-do list and I’m hoping I’ll get a chance to do it next week.

As depressing as this sounds, I think my editing days are done, which sadly includes working on this project. I simply don’t have the time and energy to even keep up with the threads here any more - between the various increasing responsibilities of Real Life, which are unfortunately only going to continue to increase from now on, I barely even get time to sleep any more. I haven’t even been able to finish editing the Godzilla movie I was doing for my son, let alone any of the Star Wars stuff I was working on.

I’m not trying to be a downer, I just know that there are people here on this project waiting on me for things, and it seems silly to keep saying “yep, I’ll get to it!” when I actually probably won’t. I’ll make a concerted effort to make time to export the files I’m currently working with so the people who’ve asked me for them can pick up where I’m leaving off, and I’m still going to hang around the forum when I can. I’m excited for V2 of Ascendant.

It would also be thematically dissonant; the meaning behind the Canto Bight sidequest doesn’t connect to anything in TROS, only the themes in TLJ. Which isn’t to say that things couldn’t be recontextualised - just that they’d have to be, extensively. I agree that giving Rose and Finn more to do in TROS would be great, though, and Canto Bight is “modular” enough as a sequence that it could in theory be dragged and dropped (other than the costumes and hair).

I’ll check it out when I get the chance! I still have to bundle up my current files etc for some other people to play around with, I just haven’t had the chance yet. Oof.
