... reversing the left and right surround is not difficult at all...

From what I remember, it's only the music in the rear channels that is reversed - the sound effects are correctly positioned. So, in order to fix the issue, you would need to isolate the music from the effects. Not easy.

Sometimes I wonder how people could notice things like this.

adding LFE to GOUT (Released)

I was thinking, with all these new projects from the Japanese special collection LDs coming and with all the different audio mixes on a.b.starwars, would it be hard to synch up these new dvds to match the gouts so we can use the audio as we please?(I have all of them I think)

Or is this always done, to match was does already excist?

(the mono-mix and belbecus pcm rips have been out for some time now)

Laserdisc revived - pics added - Japan Definitive Collection & Special Collection (WIP)

I'm stealing this thread a little.

I'm really interested in how "good"/bad a LD movie looks when it's projected. Is it even watchable in 100" 16/9 on a screen?

Screenshots would be much appreciated.

(dark jedis 16:9 gout is another deal, I bet they could look pretty decent with a good blu-ray player doing the up-scaling)

So has anyone watched these yet?

We would love to know what you think of them.

Watched a bit of empire today. This is almost real DVD quality on my 32" tube. I have seen anamorphics dvds from the 70s that dont match this image. I guess it doesn't look as good on a 52" plasma but... hey, this is a big upgrade to what I've seen before

Then get a usenet account.

I finally did that yesterday. $25, 180gb. Set it up in 5 min and started downloading dark jedis Gout. Damn this was easy. And you can d/l a lot of stuff with 180gb. So that $25 ain't no money to talk about if you're interested in this stuff.

Go get it!

As far as i know the video qualiy has to suffer from a bitrate starvation and look like shit to fit a full PCM track on it, supposedly even if you strip out all the extras and other audios already on the dvd it still won't mux right, from what i've heard anyway.

I think it was something like that I read before yes.

I have plenty of concert dvds with PCM 2.0, don't know what bitrate but I guess you can do a hell lot more if you're Sony Columbia... ;)

2. How's your maths? 48kHz (1000 samples per second) x 16 bits per sample x 2 channels = 1536kbps. I suppose you could use 96kHz/24 bit if you really wanted to...

Not very good heh heh. But that's what I thought anyway.

Although I thought I read somewhere before that it was a bit difficult to put a 1536 pcm 2.0 to a dvd, because of the high bitrate... or I am dreaming?  If not, why wasn't the full lossless rip included(or ½ bitrate pcm)? There was atleast 1gb free space on each discs...

(Sorry if this have been discussed before)

I think it looks good. But I never understand why people dont like grain...

Well, all my testing and tweaks were intended to retain as much original film grain as possible and lose the analog video noise (in addition to reducing the wobble and aliasing). I know some of the doom9 filters were designed to completely kill original film grain and I cringe when I see shots of completely grain-free processed films with a flat, antiseptic, digital look. I always appreciate good Blu-ray transfers that retain all the grain you would see in a theatrical print.

That's good to hear.

Patton is a horrible example when reducing grain gone wrong. People look unnatural and waxy.
