Star Wars: Episode VII to be directed by J.J. Abrams **NON SPOILER THREAD**

I did not hate Furlong in T2, i did hate him in that horrid 3-D movie as well as Arnold. It was totally phoned in with a bad story as well and supposedly written and directed by Cameron. Some even called it his T3.

As for star wars what audience is Disney shooting for PG?

I assume they want the broadest possible audience so there is little hope the sequel trilogy will be adult in any way.

I doubt Disney would even do what Lucas did on Revenge of the Sith with the violence on the volcano planet when Skywalker loses all his limbs and burns in the lava. Securing a PG-13 rating.

They managed to do it with The Avengers with an all adult cast , without toning it down for the Kids, and I would think that STAR WARS would have a bigger built in fan base. I doubt Disney would be stupid enough ignore the market that made Star Wars part of their lives for the last 30 years.

I think the backlash to Jar Jar in episode 1 would've taught everyone within the Star Wars camp a valuable lesson about dumbing down the brand.

What Went Wrong/What Can Be Avoided Thread

I think the biggest problem with Maul was that everything was focused on his look and his physicality. He was created to be an awesome looking action-figure but they didn't give him a personality or any sort of characterization. I think they should have cast an actor rather than a stuntman to breathe some evil and depth into the character.

STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW
Time

so the Rebels have evacuated Yavin and have built and set up a well established base on Hoth , Han & Chewie ran into a Bounty Hunter on Ord Mantell somewhere in between all that, and the Empire are still wasting time lurking around Yavin sendng out probes? Doesn't make much sense . I'm not sure of the actual 'canon' timeline between the first two films, but I always assumed it was close to a year.

Give Star Wars a break for 6 months or more...watch with a critical eye
Time

The fast door that Luke shuts as he entered the hanger control room....you can see that it bounces or settles weirdly as though it was made of plywood

I'm pretty sure that was a sloppily executed Jump cut caused in the editing room and not so much a problem with cheap sets, there's also a similar jump cut in Empire when Luke is searching for Vader on Bespin. Adywan fixed them as best he could in his revisited edits

I find I'm a lot more forgiving when it comes to traditional visual effects , than I am with more convincing CGI effects . i still notice them but they don't take me out of the moment like bad CGI does. Although it most likely has to do with the films being better than modern plot-less blockbusters.

Childhood Misconceptions (aka The Trap Thread, but misconceptions still welcome)
Time

I was 7 in 1977 when i first saw Star Wars, just the one time in the cinema, and I distinctively remember having arguments in the schoolyard about a false memory of an image of Darth Vader's head super-imposed over a star-field at the end of the film saying " I Will Return ! ".

It was a full 3 years before i saw the film again in a re-release, long before home-video and Television screenings. but i think my memory was a composite of the multitude of star wars merchandise commercials that flooded our TV screens flogging everything from Action figures, to ice creams, shoes etc. it was full on Star wars mania. I also had a T-Shirt with Vader's head emblazoned over a starfield with the words Darth Vader Lives

Who should the villain(s) of the sequel trilogy be? (if the sequel trilogy has villains)
Time

i'm not suggesting trying to outdo what has been done before, they will never come up with a villain as iconic as Vader, but it is a new Trilogy, they will need some form of conflict or new threat that is going to carry a trilogy. I really hope they don't make the mistake of having a new minor villain emerge with each successive film, the way we had Maul, Dooku and Grievous

I'm not a fan of 'prequalism' but the LOST TWENTY was something that was never properly fleshed out in the prequals, maybe there are still a few floating around that aren't necessarily fallen Jedi, but they have conflicting ideas to Luke's . It's hard trying imagine a new Big Bad that could compete with Vader, even if the prequels destroyed his character

I could never figure out why Lucas didn't restore Red Leader's dialog in the SE about having met Luke's father when he was younger, and that he was a "great pilot". It doesn't seem to contradict anything in the prequels.

although unless Red Leader was a Clone pilot or a Jedi or one of those pilots from Naboo, how would he know that Anakin was a good pilot? although I'm only using the prequels as a point of reference, perhaps they'll retcon red leader into a Clone Wars episode now that I've said that.

Could be he flew for some planetary defense force similar to Naboo's. Likely the route The Clone Wars would take if they do so.

I'd actually like to see that, come to think of it.

I think Clone Wars have already started that route with the first story arc of the latest season involving the Jedi mentoring a small band of rebels to take back their planet from federation rule, so it's entirely feasible even if the prequels didn't suggest it.

When did The Empire Strikes Back become more highly regarded than Star Wars?
Time

If you'd have asked me in 1983 when I was twelve I would've rated ROTJ, ANH & TESB in that order of best to worst, as for as I was concerned at that age ROTJ was like the best bits of the first 2 movies and then taken to the next level. asked the same question at age 15 after repeated viewing Empire would have had a slight edge over Star Wars and ROTJ would've come in 3rd.

Empire just had so many more layers to it that became apparent with age and repeated viewings.

not a fan of the EU, but with the announcement of Episode 7 it did make me wonder,

Why would Leia and Han name one of their children after one of the most evil men in the galaxy, that tortured both of them on separate occasions and who later turned out to be her biological father, yet Leia didn't think to honour her adopted father and name a child after Bail Organa, the man who raised her from birth and practically started the rebel alliance?

Vader may as well have pushed the button that destroyed her adopted father and entire home planet of Alderaan, but hey ! he came good in the end , decided not to kill his only son and threw the Emperor down a hole, Lets name a kid after him!
