The 2004 DVDs will be Limited Edition! No more to be produced after Dec 2004!
Time
and Darth Vader was just a big ole Leather Daddy and sometimes his Sabre was pink.

Just out of curiosity does anyone have any news about promotional tie-ins that are being done with the release of the DVD in their local territory? We've seen the different limited edition packaging at HMV and that cool black box that's been offered in the U.K, I've asked a few retailers in Melbourne Australia if they are offering anything in the way of a limited edition promotion, all I've manged to find is that Toy's R Us are offering a free double pack of those new playschool cutesy versions of the Star wars characters on all pre-orders , It'd be interesting to find out what is being done around the world to mark the release.

Changes in 2004 DVDs
Time
I know when the movies originally were released "from the Adventures of Luke Skywalker" was often used in promotion and in the novels to describe the trilogy.

and on another point, didn't we all secretly know that George would somehow come up with another way to fuck up the original trilogy in a way that would be as universally hated as when he made Greedo shoot first in the 97 editions? (I'm referring to the insertion of Hayden in ROTJ), come on we didn't seriously expect him to actually make the films better?

they said the same thing about the E.T dvd when it was released and 2 years down the track there are still plenty of copies floating around dirt cheap (at least in Australia anyway!), they may stop production at Christmas, but that doesn't mean that they won't flood the market with copies, I think it's just a big marketing beat up in the lead up to X-mas, It'll be a huge seller, but I wouldn't get into a panic about it selling out, there'll be plenty of Star wars for everyone!

Episodes 7,8,9?

I could be wrong because I only listened to the audio of Mark Hamill discussing the saga once, but wasn't he referring to conversations he had with Lucas whilst waiting in between takes on the set of A New Hope? nearly 30 years ago?

I don't think it would be out of the question for Mark Hamill to reprise his role in the newly announced TV project just announced, He certainly isn't too 'big' and actor to knock back the opportunity, considering he's never been able to escape the shadow of Luke Skywalker it would be only fitting for him to return to the role that made him famous, and going by recent photo's where he has ditched the beard he still has the look to carry it off, and seeing as Anthony Daniels and Peter Mayhew have made careers out of their associations with the franchise, on the fan circuit I doubt you could keep either of them away from a project like this, I doubt Harrison or Carrie would have anything to do with it, but I think a storyline similar to Jedi Academy, where Luke searches the Galaxy recruiting a new generation of Jedi
could have plenty of possibilities.

Reminder: Empire of Dreams on now

i think the part which really hit me hard was when they showed the opening day lineups with that music playing in the background... along with people of the film remembering how the audience took it...
Quote

one of them said they remember the crowd giving a standing ovation...

that hit me hard as to how big this movie must have been...
hell ive seen people clap during the end of a movie... but to give a standing ovation... those are given at opera's and musicals... this was a movie and was given that sort of respect by its audience...

YET STILL APPARENTLY IT NEEDS FURTHER IMPROVEMENTS?

Episode III is the last one
Time
George Lucas on Star Wars & Indiana Jones
Source: MTV Friday, September 10, 2004

George Lucas talked to MTV and he reassured that Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith is the last live-action film in the saga (though a TV series is in the works, more on that here).

"The original 'Star Wars' was only three films, and that was what it was meant to be," Lucas said. "After a lot of pondering and thought, I went back to do the back story, but that pretty much tells the story. Episode six is the end. There isn't any more to it."

THE HISTORY ACCORDING TO GEORGE:
THE STORY CHANGES EVERYTIME HE TELLS IT, WHEN MY GRANDMA STARTED DOING THIS WE PUT HER IN AN OLD FOLKS HOME.

Yoda's line of "Too old! Yes, too old to begin the training"...
Time
yeah , I was watching Attack of the clones the other day and it struck me how stupid Obi-Wan suddenly became in that scene
let me paraphrase: "this is where the Planet should be, and gravity around the empty spot is still behaving as if the planet was still there, But Damn I can't see the planet? Where'd dat pesky planet go?" it sounds like something George W. would say, it shouldn't take a five year old to figure that the planet has been erased from the chart. I think George has been on a big kick to get as many children as he can into the prequals to make up for the fact that there weren't any at all in the Original trilogy.

I'm not sure how the new Han/Jabba scene looks in motion, but in all the stills that I've seen Han doesn't make proper eye contact with Jabba, he always appears to be talking to Jabba's shoulder.

and I still don't understand how Luke is supposed to figure out who the young guy is standing next to Obi-Wan and Yoda?

when Lucasfilm gave the greenlight for the Expanded Universe Novels there were strict guidelines as to what could be written about in terms of timelines, ie: everything post Return of the Jedi was open game, whereas with the exception of Shadows of the Empire (BLECCH!) nothing was aloud to be written that might impact the storyline of the prequals or the original trilogy, I doubt Lucasfilm would allow so many books to be written about the characters post Jedi if he indeed intended to do a post ROTJ trilogy based on Leia and Han's children. I can't imagine for one minute that George would use anyone else's ideas as a basis a third trilogy, he'd have to start with a clean slate.

Yoda's Secret Identity
Time
my first memory of Yoda came with the release of the action figure, back then in Australia we were at least 6 months behind the U.S with the release of most movies, but we got the action figures a couple of months before the movie, and I remember buying this cute little green guy with pointy ears and a snake around his neck (which was soooooo cool!) without having any idea what part he played in the story. I was ten at the time. Essentially I had created this funny little characters identity in my head well before seeing the movie, so I was a bit shocked when I eventually saw the movie and saw what a prominent role he had in the movie and I was amazed how different his voice was to how i had imagined, although I was also a big fan of the muppets, I didn't make the Frank Oz connection for a few years after that.

anyway the big shocks for me in the movie, were the Vader/ luke's dad revelation and the fact that Luke got his hand cut off, I was one of the last kids in my year to see the film, and I remember many a schoolyard arguement over one of the kids telling me that not only was Darth Vader Luke's father, but also that he cut off his hand, of course I refused to believe their 'lies' until I saw the film for myself.

All Stormtroopers with Jango's voice
Time
it's a pity they couldn't redub jango's dialogue with the helmet on so that he sounded more like the boba fett from Empire, so that he had a completely different voice with the helmet on to when he did unmasked, it would have added a lot to his character, in his line of work it would pay to be able to disguise his voice, look at what it did for Vader's career, Imagine the uproar if George redubbed all of James Earl Jones' dialogue with Hayden (in Georges twisted 'vision' it would certainly be a logical change in terms of continuity). god I hope he doesn't read this and get anymore brilliant ideas.

Star Wars Music
Time
The Biggest problem I had with the music in the prequals was the complete absence of music in scenes that really needed it . the two most prominent examples were the Podrace in Phantom Menace- not only was the sequence way too long, but the Music didn't come in until nearly the end of the race, up until that point theres a real lack in any sort of tension that could have been created by Williams's music. In Attack of the Clones it's the chase in the asteroid field that is completely stripped of any tension and excitement because it's
done in complete silence to higlight the cool sonic wave explosions. granted it is a cool sound effect but it doesn't add any tension to the scene.

Other SW DVD releases- expected by year's end
Time
I must admit to being guilty of enjoying the Ewok Films, although it's been years since i saw them, they were released theatrically in Australia, and at the time they were the next best thing to a real Star Wars film, it also helped that my little brother was about 4 when they came out and i was about 14 so it was a good way to introduce him into the world of Star Wars, it's probably for that reason that I don't find the don't find the Ewoks in ROTJ as contemptable as most people do, Give me Ewoks over Gungans anyday!!

I'm looking forward to the release of the Ewok Films on DVD with a hint of Nostalgia, hope they're released in Australia.
