Star Wars Radio Dramas - a general discussion thread
Time
i ALWAYS THOUGHT Lando WAS CORRELLIAN ,

it was interesting to see Perry King who played Han Solo in the radio dramas, auditioning for the same movie part in the original screen tests on the Empire of dreams doco. Not to mention seeing Terri Nunn (lead singer of 80's band BERLIN-that had the hits:- Take my breathe away, No more Words, dancing in Berlin, they were my favourite band in the 80's and I had such a crush on her, it was a real shock to see her auditioning for the part of Leia, she would have been a very slutty princess.

Idea: About De-SEizing the DVDs... We need to Vote on Changes!
Time
AT THE RISK OF BEING UNPOPULAR, I ACTUALLY LIKE A LOT OF THE COSMETIC CHANGES, the only ones I'd get rid of would be

-remove the droid bonking the probe droid on the head and the Jawa falling off the ronto in the MOS EISLEY entrance
"MOS EILEY SPACEPORT ,nEVER WILL YOU SEE A MORE WRETCHED HIVE OF SCUM AND SLAPSTICK!"

-bring back the wolfman and get rid of the gecko with the bong

-han shoots greedo first (it goes without saying!)

-lose the Jabba scene

21. Alderaan explosion Remove the Praxis-ring (works for Death Stars, not for planets), but keep the rest of updated explosion

fix lukes lightsaber on the falcon (training remote) scene

and fix the audio glitches that have been reported on the 2004 disc

Why the fans complain...

There's also a more passionated kiss between Luke and Leia, a brief moment of it can be seen in the original trailer. I don't know where that scene would be, it looked like an alternate version of Leia's kiss, but didn't work as well as the surprise kiss one.

If you look at the production stills on disc 4 , theres a shot of Luke REALLY snogging Leia (they're going for it!!!!) ultimate proof that the leia/sister idea wasn't cooked up until ROTJ

Does this make sense?

the dialogue in the original was great, it didn't need to be spelled out for the morons, I was 10 when i first saw Empire on it's first release and I managed to work it out, if Empire is supposedly set 3 years after A New Hope, then the all-seeing ,all-knowing Emperor is a little slow in catching on , I assumed he'd found about Skywalker from being able to read Vaders mind/feelings anyway, long after Vader had worked it out for himself.

STAR WARS DVD Producer Van Ling answers the tough questions!
Time
I don't understand the point of doing a 30th anniversary 2007 release, when the version Lucas is most likely to release will have nothing to do with the movie that was released 30 years beforehand, unless he suddenly has a radical change of heart and returns from the darkside and decides to release an archival set of the Original cuts, I think George will keep tinkering (burying) his original vision under layers and layers of CGI until his dying day.

I've made the comparison before, but I liken George and Star Wars to Michael Jackson and his ever changing face, neither of them happy with the way they looked in the early eighties, both George and Michael both used technology as a means to perfection, now in 2004 look at the Hideous looking freak Michael Jackson has become, how far away is the day when Star Wars is unrecognisable?

I think the best we can hope for in future is that George starts listening to what others are saying, and decides to undo some of damage he's done to the trilogy, reverting back to the original Han/greedo scene (really, how many arguments would be saved if Lucas admitted he was wrong on this change? I could just about live with the rest of the changes if this one was fixed) give up on Jabba in A New hope, unless you can make him look exactly like Jabba 2 films later in ROTJ (and I don't mean replacing Jabba in ROTJ with CG Jabba!) fix the new Emperor hologram in Empire strikes Back the new version would have been perfect without the additional dialogue and if they kept Mcdiarmids face shrouded ala Darth Sidious, got rid of Jedi Rocks, bring back lapti nek I don't mid if you give sy snootles and co a bit more articulation digitally, and get rid of Hayden at the end of ROTJ

if you look at Empire of Dreams and the other supplemental features on disc 4, I never realised what an unhappy miserable bastard Lucas was during the filming of the original trilogy, the way he discusses all the production issues and studio issues, it's a wonder he didn't put a gun to his head, It didn't seem like anyone on set liked him, his only method of directing seems to be ' Can you do it again faster and more intense!' and the cast don't seem to have a lot of love for him either, sure they're happy for the parts they had in the saga, but I doubt you'd find anyone who would jump at the chance to work for Lucas again.

Anakin's ghost?!?!?!
Time
It 's sad that George has decided to ruin the Bad-ass character he created in the original trilogy, by showing him as a whiney, bratty doofus in the prequals, thereby destroying any of the mystery that Vader has in the original trilogy. I beleive future generations when watching all six fims in correct order will look at Darth Vader in a completely different light and his character will lose it's impact in episodes 4-5-6

the most annoying thing about the new emperor scene, is how easy it would have been to do it right , yet they managed to fuck it up completely, if they had simply recreated the original scene with Ian Mcdiarmid with the original dialogue, identical camerashots, and the emperor kept hidden under hood ala Sidious in the prequals, there'd be no complaints.

Time

IS IT JUST ME OR HAS THE VADER KENOBI DUEL BEEN TIGHTENED UP? IT SEEMED LONGER AND MORE DRAWN OUT ,ALTHOUGH THE PACING AND THE CUTS SEEMED A LOT FASTER AND MORE DYNAMIC? iF IT IS A CHANGE I QUITE LIKE IT.

Vader, well there was something about his voice that didn't sound like it used to. At least to me. He sounded less threatening or menacing.

yeah I agree, he sounded more like James Earl Jones than Darth Vader (and yes I DO know that they are one and the same!!!) the voice sounded more organic and less enhanced than I remember, and the breathing seemed to be really toned down, overall there was something 'not quite right' about the sound in the movie

The DVD's........Man!!!

"Ah, hell. A 'boink' sound? What is this? Saturday morning TV? Give me a break."

what next? little birdies flying around his head, and then the stormtrooper shakes his head from side to side and makes that cartoon 'argyargyargy' sound . of course the extra hitting his head on the scenery was always part of Lucas's original vision.
