Lol Hal, I’m never happy. MR, my edit is only using the mono center channel. I think the difference you’re hearing in the sound quality is because the original dialogue echoes into all of the other channels, whereas I’m just dropping in the center channel for now. For the final version, it would have to be copied into the other channels too, you’re right.

This is what it would sound like if “Hux” was pitched up a little bit. Like mes1983 pointed out, it might lose some of the emphasis on “Captain Hux” that I was originally shooting for. But if it sounds more natural, that’s ultimately the most important thing.

Lower: https://streamable.com/q4mu6h

I think either one of these sound perfect.

I have a VFX suggestion. The last shot of the ties flying over we see red and yellow laser shooting below??? I know it may sound a little silly but its an idea that popped in my head.

I was advocating for this earlier this year but Hal has already said pretty much that he’s not wanting to do it. 😦

As for the two shots vs. three shots debate, I like the two shot particularly the edit poppasketti just recently posted.

[SPOILER WARNING] Halloween: Forty Years Later - H18 & KILLS Combination Cut (WIP)
Time

So, having just watched HK… I was severely disappointed with it. But the most disappointing thing about it was how I felt like it didn’t really deserve to be a stand alone movie. It really just felt like an epilogue to 2018 before we get Ends.

Needless to say, I’m very interested in seeing this project unfold. I think this edit along with 1978 and Ends could make a nice little trilogy of films.

Unusual Sequel Trilogy Radical Redux Ideas Thread
Time

So, here’s a pretty radical idea I had last night that might make a large chunk of the fanbase mad. Sorry that its a little long winded and rambling.

Since the release of TROS, I know there’s been talks about converting the NotAnotherDesertPlanet into one we already know from the series (i.e. Tatooine, Jakku or even Jedha). But WHAT IF… we made Pasanna into Cantonica?

Hear me out: We already know that Cantonica is a desert planet and we’ve already visited the more opulent side of it. But what about the rest of the planet? What if in a contrast to the previous movie, our heroes have to go back to the planet and visit the more natural side of it? The side which unlike the rich, snooty city of greedy offworlders that is Canto Bight, is full of tradition and culture amongst the natural residents of it? A side which shows just exactly it means to not fight what we hate but to save what we love? I think doing this could accentuate the themes of both TLJ and any fan edits of TROS (specifically ones like Hal’s Ascendant). It could drive home the importance of family to Rey’s arc as well as adding more substance to make the final battle with the Civilian Fleet have more of an impact (showing how while rich tycoons have played both sides of the wars, it’s ultimately just ordinary people who turn the tide of battle once and for all). In addition, it helps explain a logical problem some people have with the theatrical movie about why there would be such a heavy First Order presence on this backwater planet. Because it would make more sense if this was the planet where not even a year ago, two Resistance spies caused a massive disruption and were able to sneak aboard the First Order’s capital using that planet as a springboard. Plus, we’d TECHNICALLY get to see Lando on the gambling planet. Lol.

The only downside of this I can think of is that it would make the obvious backpedaling of Rose in the movie even more lamer. Because why wouldn’t Finn and Co. let her come along to the planet she already was on? Other than that, I think it would be an interesting idea to consider.

The Original Trilogy Radical Redux Ideas Thread
Time

So, this might not be the most radical of ideas and I don’t know how feasible it is, but I was watching this video today (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hp-D-488Yxk) and I thought it would be interesting to maybe try to add some realistic in-camera like effects and glows to scenes with lightsabers from both the Original Trilogy and the Prequel Trilogy.

In the video, it shows how they did this sort of thing with their own short (at 11:25). Plus, I think it would make the whole saga more cohesive since it is kind of strange that you don’t really get natural glow on the pre-2015 movies whenever they use their lightsabers.

I don’t know, it’s just something that I think would be cool.

So, inspired both by Hal’s Ascendant edit and 13:44 of this video right here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hp-D-488Yxk), what if the re-made Skywalker saber in TROS had a different sort of ignition to it?

As we all know, the saber got split in half in TLJ and then re-made in TROS. Naturally, you would think things would be different with the saber after basically being welded back together again, whether it be the blade being crackly (ala Hal’s edit) or something else. I think it would be interesting to go one step ahead and just make the saber completely different and unreliable at points. And I think doing stuff like making it more plasma-y or whatever could be very interesting.

I just thought these days that one of the ways to make the return of Palpatine more palatable is to transform him in a sith ghost. You guys think this is a good idea? Maybe this could made his goal to possess Rey more clear, in the end. I just don’t know if putting the red silhouette around Palpatine would be difficult to implement, as well making his collors more lighter.

Somewhat related but I was thinking the other day about if it was possible to make Palpatine in this movie into one of those canon Palpatine bots that have appeared in some of the comics and games and such. But, it’s probably not that feasible.

Well, that’s pretty cool! At a quick glance, episode 4 “Light Side” has at about 6:10 a brief clip of the key moment, “I am all the Jedi” with no dialogue or music.

I don’t know if that’d be useful for Sherlock or Faraday, but worth checking out!

I would certainly say this resource would have been very nice to have, but it doesn’t appear to immediately open up any locked doors. Could have saved some effort in the past, but that’s all right.

lmao. So it goes with the fan editing game…

The same thing will probably happen if deleted scenes ever got released for this movie.

So, slightly off-topic but new fan editing resources just dropped on D+ (“Galaxy of Sound”). From what I’ve read, it’s basically scenes from the films with all of the dialogue and music turned down and having only sound effects on the soundtrack.

Has anyone here checked it out yet? If so, could there possibly be anything we could use for this edit?

How are we on the Mustafar intro? Last I recall Neverar was addressing the potential suitability of the Biomes short, though there was some question about the speed of the pan and whether it would work in practice as well as we would hope.

Barring future input, here’s where it remains at present, which I’ve never been anything other than happy with: https://vimeo.com/manage/videos/529875645

Huh, I don’t think I’ve ever actually seen this version of the opening! It looks pretty good (although I do think having a version with the Biomes shot for editors would be good since it would be such a waste to not use that gorgeous footage).

Also, I also want to state that I hope MR isn’t permanently avoiding this thread and that I hope he comes back soon. Glimmer of hope but I know he had computer problems around the time of his exodus and that he couldn’t even really work on his own edit let alone the stuff for this one. Maybe when it’s fixed, bad feelings will have cooled down and he could come back to this thread.

The Star Wars Fan Edits Request Thread: Request the links to Star Wars fan edits here
Time

Hi, does anyone still have a copy of Spence’s ROTJ edit? Preferably one that’s one video file rather than a whole slew of VOB files?

I’ve downloaded the link to this edit from fanedit.info but I’ve been having one heck of a time trying to take all of the separate files and converting it into one playable movie file. I’m at wit’s end in regards to this and I feel like I’m about to start pulling out my hair.

The dialogue in my clip has been altered from the version Sherlock posted; I mixed together the phrase “am a Jedi” from a few different sources, but in blending the phonemes to get the word “am”, there’s a slight hum from the crossfade which is unavoidable (it’s simply a side-effect of how blending separate pieces of audio works). I hoped the lightsaber hum would be enough to render it unnoticeable.

Here it is without the lightsaber.

This is perfect to my ears.
