Spence's Obi-Wan Kenobi (V4 Final Released)
Time

SPENCE!!! I absolutely love the beginning of that duel scene with the slow version of Battle of the Heroes! That feels like something straight out of a samurai film. Unfortunately, I don’t think the song works when they actually begin to start fighting. Also, I know that you said you fixed the mix on it but I honestly think the music could be even lower. Almost like it’s just playing in the wind, hanging there like a ghost of their past friendship.

Anyways, I think the other music edits you did are fantastic as well (and I really like how you cut the “running away in the tunnel” part of that one clip shorter jkimm!)

There’s only three shots from that scene in the edit, you still find that to be too much?

The small-file version of V2 I downloaded has most of the chase sequence intact, lasting around 50 seconds. Does the large-file version truncate that sequence?

I mean, you could always make your own edit that removes more of the chase if you want, my dude.

HER? What an inconsequential piece of information that has blown my mind.

Snooker is trans; it’s only fair to provide ample warning so as to avoid accidental misgendering leading to unpleasant misunderstandings.

Ample warnings… we ought to speak as we like mate.

I think this along with your “guetto” comment in NFBisms Obi-Wan edit genuinely warrants a ban. This site shouldn’t tolerate racism or transphobia of any kind, especially from this chud.

I like Reva though! I’m actually trying to find a way to include her a bit more as this goes on without it feeling out of left field for who’s mostly been a background player

Why do you like the character? Also, out of curiosity why shift the focus onto a secondary role. I personally found her as stuck up, ill headed, guetto stereotypical want to be baddy. Not sure why anyone would want to include even more screen time.

Assuming “guetto” is a typo for what I think it is, kindly fuck off from this site. We don’t need your kind here.

I think Sasquatch’s idea about Rey’s father being a Sith scientist who ran away is great, but I still prefer Rey nobody, so I’m gonna have to agree with RogueLeader here.

I’m kind of surprised both you and Rogue seem to think the scientist idea clashes with Rey Nobody. In the grand scheme of things, some clone scientist and his family would be nobody compared to legends such as the Skywalkers and the Palpatines.

I was thinking earlier about the Immolation scene in ROTS and how it feels off. It’s a standard complaint that the end of the fight feels small in comparison to the rest, and it has never felt right to me that Obi-wan would tout having the high ground when he’s just on a bit of a hill. Both of these issues stem from the fact that they are fighting on the side of a nondescript gully and they could have gotten off the platform whenever and wherever they wanted. Anakin could have just stepped off the platform and walked around Obi-wan, but instead he attempts a dramatic leap over his head.

The obvious solution would be to change this hillside into something more dramatic, and I imagine it wouldn’t be too terribly difficult to change some of the landscape to indicate that this gentle slope is actually a narrow promontory surrounded on both sides by fissures or sheer cliff walls.

Original Location:
Original

Dramatic Peninsula:
Dramatic

There are quite a few shots of this location across two scenes, but I imagine with all the smoke and distortion to hide imperfections, it wouldn’t be an insurmountable task.

Ooh… I like this a lot!

So, I had a thought today which is going to be REALLY funny since I was talking mad crap about those original “fishtank” shots you had used in the original sewer entrance idea. But WHAT IF…

You turned those shots 90 degrees so that the movement of them go up and down rather than side to side and zoom them in a bit, add motion blur, color correct it so it looks like they’re chilling in the murky Nur water, add a water overlay to sell the effect more, and then put in some elevator and submerged sound effects to make it seem like this is part of Obi-Wan’s elevator trip down into under the city?

BrotherOfSasquatch, that’s totally okay. I see where you’re coming from, and I hope you will enjoy it (or learn to like it) in the spirit of what the edit aims to do and how the film will leave you feeling after the full experience.

Oh, yeah. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still very much excited for this edit! Also, I never took into affect the real life implications of how PTSD is when it comes to this opening. I’ll have to keep that in mind when I watch the final cut.

No need to be a butt, my guy.

Not at all. Trying to be helpful.

If that were true, you would’ve saved the sarcasm. Besides, it would be much more accurate to actually get someone who knows the language to do it rather than let Google do it where it can’t accurately translate certain nuisances of the lines and whatnot.

Opening

So, NFBisms made one hell of a opening in the spirit of what I think most of us expected the tone of Kenobi to be, and people really wanted to see it in this edit when it dropped. Me and NFBisms talked about it (page 16 or something) and I really wanted to use it, but parts of it broke with the promised tone of the rest of my edit (mostly the complete lack of music and too rapid of a pace).

So, what I did was that I re-made the opening in the spirit of NFBisms’s opening, and completely stole his first 90 seconds (because it marvelously sets the tone) and some tidbits throughout. Then the soundtrack slowly gets introduced (only the real somber tones) as we build up to a kind of PTSD-climax.

I’m going to be a hater/stick-in-the-mud yet again and say that I personally am not a fan of this. lol.

It’s edited quite nicely, don’t get me wrong. But it feels too “comedic” to me, for some reason. It reminds me too much of something like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HIKl0HwunyU

(Also, fair warning about that clip. It’s pretty NSFW and gross. lmao)

TBH, I’m not a huge fan of how this whole sewer thing is working out. Also not a big fan of the music change during the final duel as well. But, that’s just me.

What do you think is not working? I ask because say you saw this for the first time … what is and is not working?

Well, for starters, I think the shots of the “fish” in the tanks is kind of weird and off putting. They just seem like they’re arbitrarily there. I feel like the beginning of the sewer section would be better if it just goes from Kenobi checking out the doorway to underneath the city and then it cuts to him swimming.

I also don’t think communicators work underwater so hearing Kumail talk to Obi-Wan while he’s swimming is also something I’m not a fan of. Maybe have him talking in Obi-Wan’s ear through the communicator while he’s checking out the door to establish that’s the doorway to the underbelly of the city and leads into the sewer system of the building that Leia is being held up in.

Another nitpick I have, which I will admit is something that Anjohan can’t really do anything about is the clothing discrepancy between the two scenes. The whole disguise thing of Obi-Wan and Leia when they leave the doorway works since you’d think they’d have to change after swimming back. But the clothing he wears in both of these scenes is vastly different and causes some continuity errors.

And finally… I’m just not a fan of putting this rescue so early in the series on a conceptual level. I think someone else already kind of said this but having him go full Jedi action hero to rescue Leia really undercuts the moment later in this episode where he uses the Force for the first time to save her when she falls off the building. I can honestly tell it’s a tricky situation since this is one of only a handful of big action moments in this series in an episode that’s entirely superfluous. But personally speaking, if I had the choice between just cutting everything from the Nur rescue or trying to implement key moments from it into the second episode, I would go with the former.

Unusual Sequel Trilogy Radical Redux Ideas Thread
Time

The other day, I was thinking about TROS and it’s “Palpatine Problem” and I had some scattershot ideas that are more likely to be fan fiction rather than fan edit. But I figured I’d go ahead and put them out in the universe in case it sparks an idea for one of you to maybe try to implement in some sort of way.

 1. One of my biggest problems with TROS is how it pulls a “Palpatine All Along!” sort of plot contrivance much like the Prequel Trilogy. It’s much more worse in the ST since he’s just kind of chilling on Exegol this entire time until he arbitrarily decides that he’s not anymore and does his Fortnite message. So, I was thinking… Instead of Palpatine getting resurrected at some point shortly after the Battle of Endor, what if it happens in the midst of the Sequel Trilogy? I’m thinking maybe during Rey’s first lesson in TLJ when she starts bugging out about the Dark Side Cave, we could get glimpses of Palpatine getting successfully resurrected. I think using footage from the end of the Star Wars: Eclipse trailer of that mysterious figure rising out of the black goo could be used for this sort of thing. That way, it doesn’t look like Palpatine and the Sith Eternal were just kind of sitting with their thumbs up their robes the entire time.

 2. Speaking of the Sith Eternal, I wonder if there’s a way to establish that Snoke is an autonomous member of it who’s paving the way for when Palpatine gets resurrected rather than just being his proxy meat puppet. I feel like this idea can go hand in hand really well with my first idea (although I have no idea how this one could be done TBH).

 3. Finally, going back to the canon “Palpatine was resurrected shortly after Endor and was just chilling” line of thinking, what if instead of Rey’s Father being a weird Not-Clone of Palpatine, he was a Sith Eternal scientist who defected right before they successfully resurrected him? Obviously, I feel like this idea would work solely for a Rey Nobody version (and specifically Hal’s version of it). How I see it, Rey’s Dad defects from the Eternal and escapes to Jakku. He becomes a nobody and a drunkard (I’d become alcoholic too if I helped bring back to life the most evil man in the galaxy). While in hiding, he meets Rey’s Mother and they conceive Rey. Palpatine finds out where they are and sends Ochi to go kill them. The parents sell Rey off and ditch Jakku to spare her a grisly fate. Ochi catches up to them and kills them. And coincidentally enough, Rey turns out to be the one to ultimately destroy Palpatine in the end with the help of Ben Solo. Again, much like my second idea, I have no idea how this could be established but it could be a really interesting sort of idea.
