The only way I can see the dialogue working with Rey saying “No” is as follows:
Palpatine: “I am all the Sith! A scavenger girl is no match for the power in me. You are nothing.”
Rey: “No… I’m a Jedi.”
Oh… Yeah, that would work. lmao.
Maybe her saying “No…” (shot of her catching the lightsaber) “I am a Jedi!”
I was thinking this as well. However, it doesn’t make sense as a logical response to what Palpatine is saying to her in that scene.

You know, if you’re going to acquire that, it would also be pretty beneficial to get ones of Ajan Kloss and Endor as well… 😉
Also, to add onto the “I am all the Jedi” discourse, I actually have a pretty half-brained radical idea: why don’t we just cut the line completely? We already have Rey’s big moment with the Jedi Voices/Ghosts and the music is already doing a lot of the heavy emotional lifting in the scene. We could almost make it be a nice bit of (semi) non-verbal acting.
How I’m imaging it, we have Palps line, we have the push in on Rey’s face (maybe cutting it a bit earlier so we don’t see her saying the line), cut to the lightsaber coming to her hand, and then immediately to her clashing the two sabers together, pushing back the lightning.
IDK, just throwing the idea out there on the wall to see if it will stick.

I thought of a connection and a mental/logical/reasoning/insert-other-word/etc. if Hal you are good with adjusting Kylo’s line in the hanger to not explicitly say “kill Palpatine together” and more of “Let’s stop him together.”
So for Ascendant, we know Palps tells Kylo “Kill me and I transfer to you yo.”
So Kylo doesn’t want to do this, or at least is hesitant to it since, well, he has a problem. He wants to remove Palp as an adversary, but how? Also, I want myself some Rey-ness, maybe with our Dyadness, we can do something about it. Anyway, I’ll need to ponder on this.
So fast forward to the hanger. Kylo still has his “for sure goal” is to have Rey on his side. So let’s try to convince her that together, we can stop the Sith! We got Dyad power! How exactly do we do this? Well, let’s take this one step at a time. We got that ace up our sleeve with the Dyadness, maybe we can do something with that.
That doesn’t work, she rejects him again.
So now on the DSII, they have their duel, he gets stabbed, Mom dies … and get healed. He is finally getting drawn back to the light. But here is the problem, what can he do? Cant just kill Palpy since … he transfers, so it is a lose lose situation.
Then Han appears. Remember Han’s personality/style? Just do it and don’t think about it. Think back to TFA, the most recent thing about going to Starkiller base. We know he doesn’t plan things out fully, just goes with it. So with that pep talk and Kylo going back to Ben SOLO … aka, has some of dad’s personality … he knows he needs to stop Rey from getting Palpatined. That’s the immediate thing. What do you do after that? Well … we are winging it … so don’t give me the odds.
So you have Ben going there to STOP Rey from falling to Palpy’s trap. What to do after that? He is not sure.
BUT! Now with the Chosen Jonh who gave us the Force Ghosts at the end … the movie has an explanation on how to stop Palpy’s transfer. They do it. But needs Rey to face Palpatine and ACCEPTS SHE IS A JEDI. (Which is why I LOVE Sherlock’s change with Rey’s response. She finally accepts it. She finally opens herself to it and TRULY accepts her responsibility, as a Jedi. I think Ben’s redemption was the final push for her to “go all in” since it was something more tangible she sees.) It opens the way for Four Force Team. Everyone has their part and importance in the final scene. It is not about just the ONE person to stop Palpatine, it’s everyone … as the series tells us … it’s not just about the one, but the some.
This ends my terribly written Ted talk.
(Personally I will adjust my edit to remove all the Sith … and just focus on Palpatine … he figured it out finally and it fits, in my opinion, the cannon and what was shown/told us from the movies before. Either way people want it, the above still fits whatever direction.)
And that is EXACTLY why TROS is my favorite Sequel Trilogy movie and a great continuation from both TLJ and TFA!

I feel like Across the Stars is secretly lightsaber fight music (warning: extremely half-baked mockup). I’m not sure this is a feasible rescore though; you’d probably have to seriously butcher together bits of various renditions of AtS and re-time the sequence to get them to fit together. Plus, it’s a very on-the-nose needle drop.

I’m not sure if this is the right place for this but, is there any edit of ROTJ out there that happens to end the film on the Vader bonfire rather than on the celebratory ending? I know Adywan is doing this for his ROTH: Revisited edit but I would like to see how it would look in another fan edit before then.

Speaking of extending the ending of TROS, heres a test shot of the Falcon moving across space trying to match the look and lighting of TROS. Unfortunately, Streamable has decided to clip the dark and light values again making it look more contrasty than it should.
Looks great! Can’t wait to see how this evolves.
I threw this together in about 30 min. VERY rough take for an extended ending but I just like the ending notes of the song from TFA way too much and I think it offers such a better transition from the end of Rey’s theme. Hopefully you like it Hal and someone with more tech than me and make it look official!

I just can’t help thinking about it in the broadest sense of how each trilogy ended. Although the suns shot is really cool, we already got a suns ending with ROTS. I just think it’s neat that we’re ending the film quite literally where the first one started.
I know Hal doesn’t really like this idea but if you happen to make an edit with this ending DZ, I will be VERY interested in checking it out!

So if the end of the film is extended so the musical cue can finish more naturally, what if we see the Falcon go to Hyperspace above Tatooine, and the backdrop for that new effect is the same shot of Tatooine from the very beginning of A New Hope and we circle out from there for the end credits?

I attempted to recreate the lighting of the Falcon in TROS using Blender 2.92, it somewhat looks more like a miniature than a CG ship. I’m planning on probably fixing the last shot wherein it will fly away from Tatooine, but instead of the sunset, it would go straight into hyperspace from space.
WOW… That looks amazing! I’m all for extending the final shot in order to put the full music cue in there (which is one of the minor nitpicks I’ve had about this project).
And y’know… If you happen to get some models for some other ships in the film (i.e. Bestoon Legacy, Kylo’s TIE Silencer, Luke’s X-Wing, etc.) we could maybe start implementing the idea of maybe adding some take off/landing shots that some people have brought up to help pad out the flow of the movie a little bit.
So, seeing that we’re already mulling over the DSII Duel Scene, has anyone ever considered using the editing trick of cutting out a frame every time before the lightsabers hit to make the fight a little more brutal? I think with how we’re accentuating how Rey is somewhat losing herself to the Dark Side during this scene, I think it would be a good albeit subtle change to the scene.

I’m curious why the shots being mixed vs how it was edited for the duel of the fates. Looks and sounds great but it’s just throwing me off because when I was a kid and saw that it made me go like, “Oh that’s how they get up on the upper balcony!”. It starts on the upper balcony and back on the long ramp so it just throws me off lol.
It’s stuff like this and the whole cut probe droid scene that makes me question what the hell George was thinking back then, editing wise.
Going to put in my two cents here in regards to the “Ben Lives” ending and say… if you’re going down the “Ben arriving on Tatooine” route, you could possibly modify and re-use some footage of Driver from The Man Who Killed Don Quixote (from my vague understanding of the film plus seeing trailers of it, I think most of that film takes place in desert-y locations).
However, I know how hard doing something like that would be plus I haven’t actually seen TMWKDQ and don’t really have a good idea of what shots could be used. But, I thought I could bring it up again in this thread.
Hello, thank you all for your suggestions. Firstly, The shot of Finn recieving the blast wasnt created there. However, I just whipped up a quick “proof-of-concept” of Finn a actually getting hit with the lightning, albeit it looks alot more deadly, overkill and less “subtle”.
The sound effect was from YouTube and I just did a right-left pan to sonically flow with the visuals a bit more. I completely cut out the wide shot of him flying back and left the last shot unfinished (since I’m too lazy to edit it now, but I’ll finish this shot sometime tommorrow) but also since I’m not so sure as to how to structure the shot.I don’t really know how to make it subtler, so any help is appreciated! https://streamable.com/gyj6k2
SIDENOTE: I edited the shot with 16-bit colorspace, but the one being uploaded to streamable seems to have completely clipped the highlights and shadows so I don’t know what’s up with that.

Sherlock is how I interpreted it. The fact that she doesn’t react would be what would give it weight.

Also, to carry over discussion from the Ascendant thread: I like Rey using a tiny burst of Force Lightning when she shoves Finn, and if anyone does the VFX, I’d edit it into a personal cut of the movie if I ever make one.
I’d definitely consider it too.

It’s a bit of a bummer that it won’t happen for Ascendant though. 😕
