I wonder if there’s some additional Lando dialogue that could beef it up. As is he says like two things. Depending on how one would integrate it that might be fine, or it might feel really short.

Fortunately for us, there’s a whole plethora of lines we could crib from stuff like the video games (even the pre-Disney ones) and TV shows and the like since BDW has always voiced the character outside of the movies.

Hmm… I’m pretty torn on this. On one hand, you did some great work on this and it would be a cool thing to let the audience know just how Kylo knew Rey and Co. were going to Endor.

On the other hand though, I’m not a huge fan of Kylo having some Cerebro-esque powers where he can search through the Force for different people. IMO, it skirts a little too close to the ridiculous shit they had in the EU (like Jedi pulling down Star Destroyers from the sky and stuff like that). Also, I don’t think the line from Kylo after he listens to Leia is necessary. Just have him be silent while he’s Force Googling and then have the ANH callback when he finally finds Rey and Finn.

As someone who’s been pretty against the whole “multiple voices” thing for Palpatine, you’ve certainly made me a believer with this newest clip!

As for the Lando line, you did good audio work on it. However, I think it sounds a little too “real world” if that makes sense. I think if you made it sound more like a hologram using the sound effects Rogue Leader, it would sound more like it belongs in universe.

A Work-in-progress on color correcting and forest-ing the Vader Castle shot:

Tentative Tracking

Obviously the lights of the castle will be darkened.

As far as the shot length, I’ve sped it up 1000% (10X speed) and that’s still not enough to simply replace the castle from the original 3 shot establishing sequence. I don’t want to speed it up more since the smoke and fog looks odd (and I’ll have to re-track a slower version of the lavafall regardless), so I’m thinking that it might be possible to use this one shot to replace all three.

Thoughts?

WHOA. OH MY GOD. THAT LOOKS AMAZING.

Personally speaking, I do like the idea of having the Sith Whispers being in this final confrontation as being a last temptation sort of thing (even though it doesn’t really make sense in a 1:1 interpretation since Palp’s is trying to kill her at this point but whatever).

However, I’m really not a fan of the echo voice for Palpatine. It just seems really hokey to me (although you have done excellent work with it, Axlanian!)

EDIT: Here’s a really rough mockup of what I was thinking for this scene using Axlanian’s whispers, Hal’s whispers and SWTOR whispers for the final scene that I posted in here. It kind of got glossed over though. lol

I have two versions of the scene. The one that I’ve preferred this entire time (having Palp’s final line being “You are nothing!”): https://streamable.com/am0y0m

And then there’s the version most of you guys seem to prefer and the one you’ve been all doing your edits with (having Palp’s last line be the “Scavanger girl” line): https://streamable.com/jl01wu

I’m suddenly remembering the scene in RotJ where a character speaking an alien language recounts the story of the previous movie to a cute group of childlike aliens.

This new puppet show is just making ST even more of an OT remake/knockoff lol. I think JJ would be proud we’re advancing his vision for the story.

Currently been cleaning up the Lando audio from the Star Tours ride however; theres a kid speaking over part of the message, unfortunately all the youtube recordings of the ride have crowd cheers with the exception of the one I have found.

So, I have a pretty janky solution for this: put some crackle or interference over when the kid speaks like Lando’s transmission is going out slightly.

Could be interesting if Kylo some how found Exegol again by following the fleet call out, the audio of Lando rallying allies to Exegol on Star Tours is very interesting.

YOU KNOW… if we’re able to start making some “landing/leaving” ship scenes, we could definitely show Ren’s ship (whatever it is at that point) leaving Endor and having the Lando Star Tours audio play over it as comms chatter.

What if we overlay the Sith whispers we’ve been using for all the dagger scenes over this entire exchange? It could fill in the gaps plus be a thematic thing in regards to Rey’s arc in this movie (one final Sith pull at the very end of her conflict) while also somewhat playing into Palp’s line about being all the Sith.

I would make a mockup of it but I don’t have the whispers sound effects. Preferably, I would use this clip to do my mockup of it (courtesy of Sade): https://streamable.com/fimixx

So, I went ahead and did this. lol.

These are both EXTREMELY rough and only have rudimentary sound mixing on them (I wasn’t even able to hear them through headphones). But, it gets across the general gist of what I was thinking.

I used both Sade’s and Sherlock’s mockups for my sources. I then went ahead and added a cacophony of the Sith whispers we’ve already been hearing in Ascendant, SWTOR Sith whispers and the “Nobody” chorus Axlanian had in his “Sith Legion” edit to the scene, building up until Rey grabs the other lightsaber as one final (desperate) push by Palpatine to break her spirit.

Let me know what you guys think. And if anyone who has more expertise in audio work wants to take a crack at it (Lord knows I’m not any good at it), go right ahead!

I feel like fan edits are intended to be a “definitive version” of the actual movie.

Also, it doesn’t help when such views are either presented as “fact” and other views are wrong or “they don’t understand.”

People refute criticisms of commonly criticized films all the time. I’m doing the same with TRoS.

Dude, there’s no such thing as “definitive.” Everyone’s “definitive” version will be subjective to each person. For example, your “definitive” version is not going to be Ascendant. If you want your own definitive version, you’ll probably have to make it yourself. You can your own thread for your own project.

Again, you’re welcome to offer criticism or talking points, but they should be constructive, not argumentative. And based on your complaints, you’d be better off sharing them in a different thread; Ascendant is what Hal wants the film to be, not you.

Amen.

And to add onto the whole “definitive” bullshit Test just pulled, there’s been plenty of changes and alterations that people have brought up for this project that have been rejected that I liked. So, I’ve personally resigned myself to the fact that at some point, I’ll probably have to create my own personal edit of TROS with these changes to be my own “definitive” version of the movie.

And that’s just how the fan editing game goes. I thought you would have inferred that that’s how things work around here.

EDIT: And this will be my last thing I’ll say about this. Im sorry for derailing the thread, MR and Hal.

Porkerrican's Star Wars Rebels Movie Series (Released)
Time

If anyone still has this, I’d love to get a link as well. Rebels is still my most egregious blindspot in the Star Wars canon but at this point, I don’t really have a desire to add another show to my watchlist, regardless of how short it is. These movie edits would be a better way for me to get into the series.

but you could argue they’ve had a set change since they started talking. What do you guys think?

It was talked about when Poppa and I were working on the clean plate. The first one is debatable but the second definately could be a set change. I can try to remove them if you’d like though.

My two cents, the play is essentially “The Legend of Luke Skywalker” so it obviously ends at the last place anyone has ever seen him at.

Basically, I think just waiving it off as a scene change/play is ending and a new one has started is justifiable.
