To be honest, that was not my intention. I just keep running into “SO DISAPPOINTING!” articles all around the web today. So I figured that it must’ve not done enough then?
Seems like many people voted with their dollars this weekend. I’ve read some opinions saying that they won’t be watching any Star Wars in the cinema if Kennedy remains in the cockpit. Would things really get better if… let’s say, Filoni replaced her?

I just watched some explanation / theory videos on YouTube. Darth Maul isn’t a Sith anymore and he is (most likely) the big boss running the Crimson Dawn? No wonder I felt so out of the loop during that cameo! I guess I really need to watch the animated series now.

Ron Howard probably deserves a medal for taking the reins on this. I suppose we’ll never see the footage shot by those other two guys.
Actually Ron Howard said in an interview (I think it was with Collider’s Frosty?) that they kept some of the Lord & Miller stuff, some things were combined with reshoot material, some scenes they did again. But yeah… we’ll never know for sure what they specifically shot. He might’ve also said that just to make them feel / look better.
In the trailer I remember seeing Qi’ra with a ponytail (during the Corellia chase) and in the final film she had polka hair. So I guess all the Lord & Miller material can be seen in some of the trailers?
I just came home from the cinema and… well, it was not as bad as I expected. Not amazing but fine. I definitely still think that this movie didn’t need to be made but I don’t really mind since it doesn’t ruin the OT Han for me. I’m one of those people who whine about even the smallest things that just don’t click with me… but I’m still always going to be first in line to see a new Star Wars movie.
I’m just going to ramble some random things that come to my mind while writing this.
At first, I liked the DTA (Don’t Trust Anyone) ideology of Beckett but I think they took it a bit too far in the movie with the “I’m not on your side after all… even though I really am!”
I read a few articles about L3’s (unnecessary?) droid rights advocatism in advance so I was already slightly irritated by her right from the get-go. I was quite relieved to see her go so quickly. She’ll be definitely added to my “list” right next to the Rathtars, Bor Gullet, Porgs and Fathiers. The Space Octopus in the Maw also made me feel a bit funny.
Alden did a good job portraying Han and I didn’t have any trouble “believing him” right from the beginning. There were some moments where I thought “I wonder how Harrison would’ve done that?” but other than that… he was great. I also noticed some pointy fingers in some scenes which was awesome, haha!
Donald Glover was Lando… nothing else to add. Such swagger!
Enys Nest could’ve been some super cool looking (Boba Fett-ish) villain to remember but instead it was some cute teenage girl with dreams of rebellion. That was quite disappointing for me because I was expecting some kind of a Western showdown at that point or at least something more exciting than Dryden Vos.
The Qi’ra twist with the Skype call was probably one of the only scenes where I really felt goosebumps on my arm. I guess I just need those hooded people with lightsabers in my SW movies to get a thrill overload.
Did I understand correctly that Qi’ra was Darth Maul’s apprentice who was undercover in the Crimson Dawn? How is he still alive by the way? My first thought was “Wow! They retconned Darth Maul?!” but then I remembered that I probably need to watch the Clone Wars and/or Rebels to understand it fully.
Also quick shoutout for the mention of Teräs Käsi, which most of you know, is the hand-to-hand combat form and it’s Finnish for Steel Hand. I had already forgotten that it existed in the SW universe.

Haha, I have only just recently started to get into anime (Death Note was my virgin cruise!) and Dragon Ball has always been something that I’ve known about but never really had the time for because of the huge amount of episodes. Now I just decided one morning that I need to see the whole series, starting from the original Dragon Ball. Then I began to read all about the different releases and color corrections etc. Dragon Boxes, Season sets, Levels sets and oh boy… so much information. 😄
Someone recommended WinxBloom1980’s DBZ to me but that ship seems to have sailed. It had the broadcast audio too if I understood correctly?

I’ve been browsing for the “perfect DB package” on Nyaa for a few weeks now and everything seems to be out of seeders. Fortunately I managed to get the Utsukushii’s Dragon Ball (which only has the Japanese audio with English subtitles). I think I can live without dubs though.

There is a team online working on a project of that level via dragon box quality combining different sources like the broadcast audio, I don’t have all the details since they haven’t posted any episodes publicly yet, but they do have the first dbz movie online as an example for what to expect moving forward. This thread has been dormant for some time now but I’d still like to query if someone knows about this “original Japanese broadcast audio” that people keep mentioning all around the interwebs? Is there some fan-made package somewhere with DBZ “Levels” quality video and the Japanese broadcast audio? I have read that the broadcast audio is much better (or clearer) compared to even the bluray audio.
…or should I just forget about this quest and go straight with Dragon Ball Kai? I heard the English dub is pretty awesome. I just usually go with Japanese audio + English subs.

Haha, even though I can speak a bit of Swedish… my first language is Finnish so that is the one I’m translating the subtitles into. I haven’t started the operation quite yet (because I’m too busy playing video games) but I’m going to translate RotR and this one as well. But I’ll PM you if/when I get them done.
