SW Episode III - Reign of the Dark Side (* unfinished project *)

Looking good!

A few ideas. I agree that the saber coming out of the sleeve should be cut. Gives that much more impact to the saber igniting in the darkness.

Have Palps get up slower. Cut from him starting to get up to showing the Jedi again with their sabers drawn but have the lights flicker accompanied by the force rumble sound effect. Maybe insert a puzzled closeup shot of Mace's face during the flicker before cutting back to Palps getting up all the way as the lights dim completely.

I think it would be perfect then. I think it's important to get a reaction shot of sorts from the Jedi to the lights flickering/dimming.

How I would do it:

Are you threatening me, master jedi?

Not yet.

Palps gets up and the lights flicker as he does so

Cut to the shot of the Jedi with their sabers drawn. Lights flicker more along with inceasingly loud force Rumble.

Closeup of Mace's face in the flickering light.

Shot of Palps after the omitted sleeve closeup. It's treason then. (lights flicker and dim to nothing) Palpatine's saber ignotes from the darkness.

I also have a shot in TPM that I feel is poorly animated, as if they never finished rendering the shot.  It's in the Gungan/Droid battle after a billow of smoke clears and a group of the hover tanks apear.  Just looks like a video game graphic with zero detail.

I know exactly the bit you mean. Has always stuck out like a sore thumb to me.

Man, Jake Lloyd gets on my tits! Anakin should have been older! In fact, it would be very tempting in my edits to make Episode 2 into Episode 1, Episode 3 into Episode 2, while padding them both out with some sequences from Phantom Menace where appropriate.

Of course, that would mean there'd be no episode 3 anymore. Lol.

But seriously, whilst Episode 1 is arguably the best of the prequels, it totally butchers the origins of Anakin Skywalker (as well as how it ruins our preconceptions established in ANH that Owen and Beru knew Anakin very well before Obi Wan dragged him on an "idealistic crusade")

Just had a funky idea,

what if Anakin decides to join the sith before he goes and tells mace Palpatines identity, but doesnt say that HE is the sith

then when Mace confronts palps & sees the lightsaber pop out it of his sleave it is a shock to him and the other Jedi (maybe have it so they don't light up their blades until then.)

*confused* How is it a shock to them if, as you say, Anakin tells them Palpatine's identity?

This is one idea I don't agree with. The way I always saw it, the sith eyes were something that developed from years of corruption by the darkside. Not something that suddenly appears due to the character's mood.

Same goes for Palpatine's Halloween mask features. I don't agree with that either. The first time we should see prune faced palps is ESB if possible.

Edit: Having said that, it DOES make Anakin's fall seem more believable and less of a conscious decision. You can see he's giving in to his hate, rather than making a conscious decision to do bad things.

So basically, I'm on the fence. Your way works a LOT better than the original though :)

But it begs the question why was he impersonating a Jedi to begin with? He wants Obi Wan to join him, but for what purpose? His reason for trying to convince Obi Wan he's good and that together they can "destroy the sith" is never explained or followed up on. It just shows that George wasn't thinking at all about the characters' motivations when he wrote the script.

That's why, IMO, it's better to make him a rogue Jedi. It's not perfect that way either, as even then, the Jedi refusing to believe him when "he couldn't assassinate anyone. It's not in his character" is stupid.

Unless we can find a way to either give Dooku motivations that make sense for wanting to appear good (but really being evil) or make it more plausible that the Jedi don't believe him (has he tried explaining things to them? What reason have they possibly got to not question everything when he's TELLING them that he's discovered the republic is under Sith control?)

If these things can't be addressed whichever way an editor goes with it, I fear that the prequels will be forever broken.

I think I'd vote white too. As for grievous' sabers, I'm all for him having his own red set, but I'm wondering if it's possible to change the handles. Not only are they all different (which doesn't sit right with me if we're to ignore the "trophies from dead jedi explanation" but anakin and obi's sabers are there amongst them. Moreso, and I forget where I saw this, but the sabers change colour from blue to green in respect to their corresponding handles (obviously this isn't an issue in your cut, but worth mentioning all the same) What are the guys at ILM paid for exactly?

On the episode "Grievous Intrigue" of Season 2, you have Grievous delivering the line: "The story of Obi-Wan Kenobi ends here!" wich I think its a great line for him to say during the movie... but... that scene of the TV series might have too much noise and music.

IIRC, Adywan mentioned in another thread a while back that The Clone Wars is broadcast with voice and sound effects in the centre channel and the music in the others (unlike the films, where the music bleeds into the centre channel) so you can isolate it from the music completely.

The way they've mastered the sound for that is a fan editor's wet dream. I just wish they'd do it for the movies too. So unless there are a lot of sound effects as he's saying the line, there shouldn't be a problem, as long as you get hold of the audio from the broadcast rather than the DVD. :)

Having the Executor as close as it is when she says the line is what the problem is really all about, and not the line itself. Thats what I would be suggesting to ady instead of the line change.

Agreed. Make the Destroyer less glaringly obvious and that would solve the 'princess obvious' problem.

At the risk of pissing people off for going off topic, have you heard of the restored content mod for KOTOR2, Darthmunky?

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/The_Sith_Lords_Restored_Content_Mod

They've just released a final version after months of Beta testing.

Proof that whenever a studio (be it film or game) fail to deliver, the community takes matters into its own hands, and "fan edits" are born.

See, I brought that one on topic....sort of :p
