Info Wanted: Best edits of Ep 2 and 3?

Not to mention, morally you should probably ask him permission to use his shots anyway. But even if you did, his shots are going to stick out like a sore thumb.

The quality is already degraded an unusual amount in his edit. I figured that being a pro editor, he'd have ripped using a codec like apple prores422 or even lossless. But using his work in your own would add 2 further steps of degradation on top of this.

I'm pretty sure that he also rotoscoped out the "slow steam" effect from the shot of Anakin and Padme arriving in the Geonosis factory, as well as some rotoscoping work in the scene with Dooku and Mace in the Geonosis Arena with the Jedi in the background (since he did some scene readjusting with when the Jedi appeared in the story).

Is this in the commentary? I don't recall...

Need Help With My New Laptop!!!

I'm not interested in Ubuntu. You all already know how much I love macs ;-). What do you think of my laptop? Do you think I got a good buy, remember I bought it when it came with a free webcam valued at $150? Where can I find a free version of Windows XP to install?

What hardware in a laptop do you recommend for a good gaming laptop? I already I asked this.

A legitimate "free" version of XP doesn't exist so I don't think it would be wise to advise you of where to find one on this forum.

As for whether it was good value, I have no idea what webcam this is, and whether it was actually worth $150. But it's all subjective as I'd never buy a webcam for that much, and would get one integrated into the laptop lid for convenience. Even the cam I have on my gaming PC is only a £10 one.

Have you considered making this laptop of yours a Hackintosh, considering you like Macs so much?

He did a frame by frame roto of Obi Wan walking out of frame as Anakin is about to say "she hardly even recognised me, Jar Jar" and flopped him (final cut term - means flipped :-p) horizontally as well as scaling him down slightly so he looks further away so he looks like he's walking back on himself in a circle.

He does this because he cut all the whiny dialogue (and Jar Jar talking!) which doesn't give Obi Wan time to have made it back around without it.

As for the other rotoscope you're asking about, I have no idea...I didn't know there was one.

Install and run something like 'pc decrapifier' to get rid of all the pre-installed bloatware. I had a laptop with 'Windows 7 Starter' preloaded and the speed was horrendous due to all the crap the manufacturers put on.

A better option would be to just reinstall Win 7. Or XP. Or Ubuntu (my personal favourite system on a laptop where you don't need to do any gaming)

The Prequel Radical Redux Ideas Thread
Time

Speaking of sounds, I've recently bought 'The Sounds of Star Wars' book. The one with the (surprisingly good) attached sound module. I'm at this very moment ripping all 256 sounds off it via the audio jack. Now obviously I don't know where to mention this as it's not just relevant to the prequels - there are sounds from all 6 films and some from The Clone Wars too, but would anyone be interested in me making it a download? There are sounds in here I've never found anywhere else.

Would it be worth making a dedicated sound effects thread where I could assemble an archive of the sounds I've gathered and other people could add to it?

The one thing that makes the troopers looks really fake is when they have their helmets off. Placing a real head on a CG body just didn't work and the ones where they are fully CG their faces looks so fake. Why the hell didn't they just build a few costumes for these shots?

I'm hopefully going down the real-trooper route when i get to the PT. Also they won't be clones of Jango. Jango will have been hired to recruit the best mercenaries from all over the galaxy for the cloning process so there would be a variety of clones and you can have different voices, which would tie that into the OT where the stormtroopers don't all sound the same

Remove the kid and have Jango be Boba and that's exactly the route I'd like to go (short of reshooting so the clones are the bad guys and the troopers are just regular people) :)

STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION

I heard a story, and this might be entirely fictional, that John Williams was so unhappy with the way his score was butchered in Episode I that he wrote George Lucas a letter where in he disowned the score as it appears in the final cut of the film. Urban legend perhaps? I don't know. I do know that the way Lucas makes his movies now prevents Williams from scoring them the way the OT was scored. Hence why so many musical cues are recycled over and over in each film.

I did hear that JW wasn't at all happy with how his score was utilized in Episode 2 - e.g. how what he composed for the arena battle was removed in favour of no music followed by recycled stuff, and how it was then butchered and used entirely unsuitably in the march on the temple in ROTS.

He also wasn't given enough time on the AOTC soundtrack, it was rushed and there's a lot of horrible recycling of the same tracks throughout the film as a result (as well as from TPM). The episode 2 soundtrack is the only one not to have been released as a 2 disk uber edition - there's just not enough material to even make one. If there was it would've been milked, I'm sure!

Anyway, kinda straying from the topic a bit...

@Jaitea I completely agree that OT and PT williams have a totally different feel to eachother.

I loved the music change myself, and it worked tremendously with the editing, cutting back and forth to the escapees at just the right times. Sounds so dramatic when Han goes "let's hope he got that tractor beam out of commission" and it cuts back to the duel.

However, what ChainsawAsh said above is certainly interesting. There are musical cues in the other OT duels, but only at dramatic moments, whereas the ANH:R duel as it stands now has constant music.

So basically I'm on the fence.

Instead of the god awful Hayden standing next to Yoda and Obi-Wan why not have Vader in his suit standing there.

He was last on the good side in the suit and it was what he was wearing when he died like Obi and Yoda.

Still have him look over to Yoda and Obi and them look back at him. But we all know he is good now.

Might not be as good as Sebastion Shaw in Jedi robes (that he never wore) but its better than Hayden.

Yoda and Sebastian Shaw were in ANH?!

Looking forward to seeing this. Haven't posted on one of your threads before, Jambe, but have been a fan of both your other deconstructions since long before I was a member here. Building Empire, along with Deleted Magic were among the first things I ever heard about on these forums and subsequently downloaded.

It's seriously shitty that OCP is selling other people's work AS WELL as his own.

I can understand it turning up on ebay and stuff. There are a lot of opportunistic sellers on there that'll do anything to earn a few quid off someone else's hard work, but Garrett should know better!

I only just noticed the thread title change. Ady, you are a God!

I disagree with what someone else said about the CG Tie reveal. I loved it. I hope that Will still has them for you to use. Hopefully in a resolution that suits the HD ANH:R.

But I guess Will and other contributors have at least 5 years to work on these things for you.

Here's hoping for a Blu Ray release of the theatrical versions in the next 5 years to make your job easier when the time comes.
