STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW
Time

I thought just having him so still and expressionless made the emperor more eerie. That he's become so inhuman and evil now that he doesn't emote (unless he's taking pleasure in doing something evil such as mocking/torturing Luke).

But that's just me. In any case, I never thought it looked fake. How much are you guys expecting his face to move just from talking as sedately as he does? It's flickering so much that you surely wouldn't notice anyway!

The eyes not blinking aren't really a problem for me, nor did i notice it until other people pointed it out. Again, it could be seen to add to his "monster" quality.

Also, the eyes being in shadow helped evoke the original hologram more. That was far more shadowy than the 2004 version. We also don't know what ady has in store for the PT. Cut halloween mask palpatine entirely? If so, and his face is just the result of age and corruption, and not a Sith lighting blowback accident, then the evil "sith" eyes are saved for his reveal in ROTJ. We get a glimpse of how old and warped he's become via an obscured flickering hologram, but we don't see the full extent of it (his eyes or bumpy head) until ROTJ.

The amount of movement on the hologram effect is unfortunate, but obviously necessary as it relied on the interference on the mouth. If we had the source video of that 2004 hologram handy, it would be possible, as well as making ady's job a hell of a lot easier!

All in all, I'm blown away, and hope he doesn't take people's observations (I hesitate to call them criticisms) to heart.

I've got the files, just not sure exactly what we want now.

What we want? Lol. I'm not sure I understand what you mean.

brash, I can get you all of the sounds from Star Wars Galaxies if that would help.

That would be excellent, as I've never owned Galaxies. If you could upload them and PM me the link that'd be totally wizard :-p

It might be better to treat this as a preservation project in the same way one might for documentary footage or soundtrack mixes etc.

If all the files were sent to one person (presumably Brash) and when the the archive is sufficiently comprehensive it's chapters could be released as a series of disc images (which people could download from the usually places and design covers and labels for etc).

That way the links don't get anyone into trouble and will not be subject to the whim of a single file sharing site owner.

That is an excellent idea Bingowings. I'd never actually thought that they might be interested in hosting it on that site.

Look into this, I will!

Great idea! My advice - leave it @44.1Khz, 16 bit Stereo. Any conversion may degrade the quality

Here is my Star Wars Audio colletction (when my server is online). May be useful for you:

Thanks for that. I'll take a look!

As for what you said about conversion degrading the quality, it wouldn't be converted again from 44.1 but rather from the source files, so that's a non issue. I'm just wondering which is best :-)

Already got it, Erik. :-) Though the sound quality on those is pretty bad....I'll probably end up including it though if some of the sounds/dialogue on there are unavailable in higher quality elsewhere.

I'll update my first post with the resources I'm looking for/looking to extract sounds from so that people can offer advice on how to rip, or even upload the folders if they've already done it themselves.

And of course, people can suggest more resources.

I'm sure someone will have devised a way to automate the process somewhat. If you look over at ffshrine, there are guys there who extract game music (some of which happen to be unreleased cues) in order to build more complete Soundtracks than the official so called 'complete' collections. It's those kind of guys who will have devised ways to streamline the process I imagine.

If not, I have patience. I've actually been thinking of buying republic commando on Steam for some time but not got round to it yet.

Thankyou, bobgargia! I've been looking into whether the sound rips for that game are somewhere on the net already. Unfortunately, no luck. There are a lot of music game rips over at ffshrine, so it's likely they'll have extracted sounds as well.

I'll have to ask around! Eventually I hope to have all the game sounds. Thanks for the link! :-)

Have just updated my first post to include the official soundboards. All in the relevant folders and converted to .wav to save people the trouble if they don't want to save, arrange, rename and convert the files themselves.

Both my uploads so far have been at 44.1Khz, 16 bit Stereo.

Can any audio/editing gurus tell me if it's worthwhile redoing them at 48Khz, 24 bit?

I was thinking I could put his name along side the original editors in the credits so as not to alude to the film being a fan edit.

It's a fan edit, everyone who watches it will know it's a fan edit, no reason to try and "disguise" the fact that it's a fan edit.

Whether it's a fan edit or not, I appreciate editors like adywan who go that extra mile in seamlessly creating new credits that are as professional as the originals.

Ghostbusters, Ubuntu is more stable, more lightweight, less resource hungry, community driven - so they only include the features people actually want.

And its way of installing things through the ubuntu software centre is just inspired. You search for a program in the search box and if you want it you click install. It does all the rest. No more waiting for an exe to download then running it yourself, then unticking all the included crapware. Everything in the Ubuntu software centre is approved by them.

Rather than including everything in one compressed file, I'm going to upload each different bundle seperately so that people have the flexibility of only grabbing what they want. I also won't just be linking to the originals as there's nothing worse than finding what you want on a forum, and following a link to something that's been taken down by the original uploaders. I'll be uploading to megaupload or something. One bundle (probably the one the least people have got to listen to) is being uploaded tonight after I painstakingly type out a track list. What kind of disclaimer should I put in the accompanying text document?
