The Prequel Radical Redux Ideas Thread
Time

My instinct is to remove Gunray and other Neimodians entirely in order to paint a picture of Dooku as a good guy, but at the same time, the Jedi need a reason not to trust him, and associating with Gunray is certainly a reason after the whole Naboo thing.

The only gap in logic is why didn't Dooku go to the Jedi with his suspicions in the first place? Why start a war first before telling an imprisoned Obi Wan that the republic is in Sith control?

"Oh would you look at that, Frink is making his own edit"
*double take*
"WAIT, WHAT?!"

Thankfully my preconception of you as the loveable ot.com jokester hasn't been turned on it's head by you doing a serious fan-edit. What losers would bother with those? Those things are ten-a-penny :-p

You need only look at the product of my homeland, Taff Wars, to see that comedy is where it's at ;-)

But in all seriousness, these may just end up being be the most watchable prequel fan-edits around. Nothing making any sense in AOTC will actually aid you in your goal.

It's a shame sswr's youtube vid 'human-cyborg relations' is no longer viewable. It could give you ideas.....I still don't know why he actually took his videos down as well as stopping editing. :-/

Star Wars Redemption: Episode 1 (Rendering final cut!) (* lost project *)
Time

Well I'm a bit late to comment as my internet has been down all day.

In terms of the narrative structure you've chosen, I have no problems. I love the direction you're going with this and I can seriously see this being my preferred way of watching the prequels in any form from now on. This edit isn't meant to be star wars as we know it, but a fresh experience :-)

Technical editing is excellent, except I feel in one transition (which I've already discussed with you elsewhere but can't resist seeing what other people think) ;-)

In the escape pod shot in the 'a quick escape' clip, Benja has transitioned from the launch of the pod straight to it's fall to the planet, so as to save all the r2 and threepio stuff for later.

In our conversation about it last night, I felt the transition was a bit jarring and could use some smoothening out. Benja thought I might just be too used to the way it was originally.

I've created a clip with an example of how, using the soundtracks, it can be (in my opinion) improved. It's probably not a dealbreaker, but I'm curious what everyone else thinks. Maybe it's fine the way it is and I just need a hearing aid.

STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW

As everyone probably guesses, being that those mock-ups were made by me ...

I'm all for ditching the episode numbers, and doing all the crawls like the '77 one, with the "STAR WARS" logo replaced with each movie's title.

It makes it much easier for me to ignore the prequels, and I just like the look of the '77 crawl more than the others.

I'm not, however, sold on the different colors thing. But it's true that the Empire script has the crawl in blue, over the backdrop of Hoth - I'd say that's worth a mockup...

I can see your logic that it helps us to ignore the prequels, but isn't this a moot point as, last I heard, Ady's going to be editing the prequels?

Not directed specifically at you ChainsawAsh. There just seems to be a bit of a discussion going on about it for reasons that wouldn't apply to the Revisited saga as it includes the prequels.

STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION

Only list the names of those whose ideas you actually use. That way, if someone posts just to get their name on a list, they won't unless they actually offer a reasonable suggestion, much less one worthy of using (since if it is used, that would mean some sort of involvement for giving a usuable idea).

Then you'd have people trying to get there first with ideas, or repeating ideas redundantly because they think it'll get them in the credits. All in all it'd undermine the relaxed atmosphere these forums have where people chip in because they want to help, not because they want recognition.

And that's also suggesting that the ideas Ady doesn't end up using are somehow of less value than the ones he does. To a dark place this line of thought will carry us :-)

Nah, the way Ady has already said he'll do it makes sense. He's kept his word about people who haven't directly contributed still being in the credits of EMPIRE:R (even though he's under no obligation to) but the way he'll do it from ROTJ:R onwards is more practical. I'd have no problem with him doing the same with every release (including ANH:R HD) only crediting people involved directly in the credits and having a more extensive ot.com credit list accessible from the menu.

Practicality, consistency, and saving Ady's sanity is more important than seeing my name at the end. :-p

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)
Time

Urgh, I hate DRM. It's exactly the same with PC games. Their efforts to combat piracy only inconveniences those who actually pay for the product. Not the pirates, who have all the DRM removed for them by other, smarter pirates. Why can't publishers see how counter-productive it is? When I bought Bioshock 2 for example, I had to download a crack designed for a pirated copy just to get it working. It's the same for almost every new game I buy.

That's fine as an explanation, Bingo, but how would it be conveyed in an edit?

Having Gunray as an antagonist in Episode 1, and on Dooku's side in Episode 2 makes it very challenging writing Dooku as a good guy. Along with all the other stuff too. :-(

Edit: In reply to your idea about the droid too, if it can cut a hole in a window, then it obviously has technology capable of penetrating the 'glass" so why not just shoot her with it? :-p

Star Wars Sound Effects Archive - A collection of SW sounds for use in Fan Edits (* unfinished project *)
Time

I haven't forgotten about this project. I'm assembling this archive for me as well as everyone else on these boards. Because I'm on a Mac, I've decided to also make every archive available in AIFF as well as Wavs.

An updated version of both archives I've done already will be uploaded soon. And I'll be assembling other archives when I can too. I don't want to release a 'game sounds' archive though, and then have to re-release it because I've found more files since, so please forgive me if it takes a while.
