Interesting to see that there are more burn marks than our little friend from the home video releases.  Wonder if those were common ones too or exclusive to this print.

Those are the same known marks you're seeing on the home video releases.

Really?  I've only ever seen the one in the right corner and it's the only one that none has featured in his comparisons as well.

I'm going to be "that guy" and say that I trust Harmy's judgment on the coloring.  While the above may look more natural, if the top is how the film is supposed to look than I prefer that myself.

for reference: a shot from the Senator Theater screening here that's lookin' kind of green too.  Keep in mind it's obviously a picture of the projected image though.

Damn, didn't mean to piss off so many people. In the past five seconds I've read that I don't love Star Wars, I am a troll, a former poster, and that I haven't read enough; though that last one is probably true.

What I meant to say was, my first impression of the forum has been people complaining. Every thread has just been "George Lucas takes a dump on Star Wars fans" or "What pissed you off most about Blu-Ray release and any SE?"

To answer your question one look in the "Preservation" section would answer your question.  Labors of love such as this this and this certainly prove dedication to the movies if nothing else.  Hell, even the fanedit section would prove you wrong!  Adywan has, for instance, actually built new models to use for his Revisited edits - ILM '80s style.

The General Discussion forum is a place of lots of bitching and moaning on a regular basis.  There's definitely plenty of complaining over here (and I promise not to single anyone out) but the saving grace is that you can also find plenty of well-thought out criticism.  Or, once every blue moon, somebody says something nice about the movies/extended universe and puts it in a new light most of us probably hadn't previously considered.

That said, welcome to the forum and may you read this before swearing us off.

The thing is that when you un-crush the blacks, more grain that was previously hidden shows up. And also compression eats up a lot of grain, so that's why this higher bitrate encode looks overall more grainy.

Wow!  I honestly thought you had added it, I had no idea standard-definition had killed the grain so much on the 2004 DVDs.  Who knew the blu had so much grain?  I sure didn't.

Hello Harmy,

I watched most of the workprint today and all I have to say is wow.  I was impressed, even with V1; but, I think - for the first time ever when watching Star Wars - it showed its age!  Now, I mean this positively of course.  Never before have I watched it and it actually looked like it was filmed in the '70s.  Suddenly it just feels like it belongs.  This color pallet you've created is simply phenomenal and words cannot express how eagerly I'm awaiting the rest of this workprint... let alone the final release!

And also, I don't know how often you applied the grain filter.  I thought you said only during the static grain problem-shots, but it seemed to be throughout.  Either way, I think it works and I love it.  There's not too much, but there's enough that Star Wars feels like a movie again.

A+ from bkev.

I think GL's plan all along was to destroy the OOT, even before empire and jedi were made. People like GL, who have more money and power than the common people, can control the course of history regardless of what others say. It has been like that since the dawn of civilization; why does GL need public opinion? He will succeed without a doubt in destroying everything related the OOT because that was always his vision, to make people love a movie so much that it becomes more than just a movie, but an inextricable part of the cultural idiom, and then remorselessly destroy it.

What the fuck is wrong with you?  Seriously.  You have to be kidding yourself.  I'd say you're a blatant troll but you've been at this for so long I think you're just crazy.  While it's true the victors write history, that DOES NOT apply here.  At all.

Sans the mark, the added blur is a little depressing. Harmy please reconsider the added shake/blur whatever you added to the droids opening scene. To watch a crisp clear film only to see some of it noticeably blurry takes me out of the film.

Anyway nothing too heated here, just my opinion. Thanks for your time and work on this.

I mentioned this on the previous page but you were far more articulate about it.  It was really bothersome for me as well, and I am curious as to why the decision was made to add it at all.
