mithrandir, these are some of my old vids, where i had a stab at the vintage HUDS. same trick on both.

why customise what is there when something different could be inserted? i'mgoing to try some cuts from 2001 and such films possibly to a similar point.

i wasn't aware of that experimental scene, ill have to check that out.

the edit was just a quick file bash really, but i have always felt that the duel would be great if it could be closer to the one in ESB, with obi wan being overpowered like luke was, and his defeat of anakin could be anecdotal of his defeat at the hands of dooku or possibly grevious. ambitious, radical, and miles away from anything i could achieve.

some music would help, especially if lead from some tense dialogue, then the music could be composed of the wind and fire like in the ESB gantry.

i also would love to see the whole mustafar affair devoid of padme. bonkers plotwise (the twins and her retirement from the story would be set before) but then obi wan would run to his former apprentice, seeking to redeem him (like luke does) but fails.

the movie would end as SSWR roughly laid out with him appearing to steal baby luke from a coma induced padme and flying off into space.

Well the problem with Anakin and Palpatine talking in the senate is the lighting. You can change what's in front of them pretty simple. The problem is with the face shots as they talk. The color tone changes about 200 times. So it's pretty hard to replace the opera with anything, unless it's something that has the color of the room changing every 3 seconds.

One second the background is purple, then its teal, then it's (insert 5 different shades in between). Otherwise I would have done this a very long time ago.

It's a damn good idea tho. Just not possible to make it happen without it being obviously altered

It could be either a guy (a clone or an officer dressed ala imperial, or even more, three or four officers/clone commanders) speaking and telling the news, or it could be an animation of Star destroyers about the strategies/tactics of the republic in the war (the romans used to do this when they sank the arena of the coliseum, I had the idea from that).

i like this idea, possibly just holograms of armiesand such like the seperatists view on mustafar and geonosis.

There's some merit in that video, and I agree totally that you get more invested in the battle when it is shown solidly.

In a more radical TPM edit though, the space battle could get recycled into a diversionary attack so the Royal Starship can escape. Then if the jedi battle was on the battleship, that could explain the destruction of the droid army later on.

I'd be happy to see the gungans go entirely, so the end battle is just theed insurrection and the jedi duel.

I was watching king-kong recently, which like TPM returns to its original location at the end. But what Peter Jackson did cleverly was redesign New York for the second time by introducing snow and mainly using night scenes. Could this be done possibly for TPM? It could recycle the location into something vaguely new.

Just throwing a nugget in the works.

What if the duel was AFTER yoda, bail and obiwan have the meeting where they decide to go into hiding? Yoda knows through the force that they are the last of the jedi, and all is agreed, but obiwan must find out what happened to anakin. Yoda warns him not to go, and that 'the boy he trained is gone'. Obi wan goes anyway and everything carries on as usual.

Major issue would be the birth of the twins. If there was anyway of having them born before, or possibly born without yoda being there. Potentially lots of back-an-forth.

I don't know if this idea has been floated before, but here goes:

I've been toying with the idea of pulling together space battle footage from other sci fi movies of the late 70s/early 80s for use in the PT. Things like Battlestar Galactica, Battle Beyond the Stars, Galaxy of Terror and the like. In addition I've also been looking for Star Wars knock-off scores like Stu Phillips' Galactica score (though I think it's unfair to call such a good score a knock-off... let's call it inspired by instead).

What I have in mind is replacing special effects scenes with footage that would be more in line with the visuals in the OT. Just a thought. What do you all think? Any suggestions for source material?

didn't want this post to get lost in the faff. i have also been thinking along similar lines for a while now. it could be a really good resource if we could have a thread for random retro space footage.

In ANH Beru and Owen seem to know a lot more about Anakin and his fall that they could possibly know from their brief encounters with Jedi and Senators in AOTC and ROTS.

from their reaction in ANH i always thought that perhaps owen could know about anakin turning to the darkside, and beru just knowing him as the nice jedi.

i always thought owen and beru would be larger characters in the PT, almost like the previous non-jedi characters like han and leia. could be cool if ady has multiple clone identities, that owen is an old soldier. a captain who jumps ship with obi wan and yoda.

good first attempt, and i see what you're doing. i liked the voice in the dark, but that could have been an opportunity to put in some reminders from ESB. music was good too (what was it?)

agree with rpvee, a bit blunt with the cuts, although i wouldnt worry about the dullness. ROTJ sort of begins with the slow hangover after the binge that was ESB.

have a crack at reopening all the films? each one would demand a different flavour.

star wars but not star wars.
