I think putting the jump to lightspeed from a cockpit view in the middle of ESB, takes away from that triumphant moment to conclude our favorite episode of the saga.
good point. i agree with bingowings about the menu screen.
urgh. prepare to rend garments and vomit all over the carpet.

Being a military aircraft wouldn't a Yavin speeder look different to a Hoth speeder?
Would it use camouflage like a military helicopter for instance?
that would be cool, but camouflage doesn't feature much on the hoth snowspeeders, and with that logic all the spaceships would be painted black.
star wars is above the parameters of our petty logic!
was just reading about the new blu-ray in a magazine (but foolishy forgot it's title!) and i noticed that the galaxy/thing at the end of ESB had changed to a big red nebula. does anyone know anything about this? it looked bloody awful.
there would be a large bank of anthony daniels material from the clone wars cartoon which could be good.
i can imagine a shot panning up over the massive city planet, with just a tiny speck of a deathstar, and the audience thinking... oh my god.
i think the idea of coruscant being taken by rebels could just be done as a background narrative, with minimal actual footage, other than the planet being in the background. all plot elements could then stem from it, ie
* deathstar is destroyed so it won't later be used to destroy coruscant
* han's rescue also has some other goal attached to it, such as reactivation codes for the droid fleet
* endor mission isn't actually about a shield generator, but is related to the above mission for the droid fleet.
* the droid fleet is needed to swell the rebel's ranks, maybe just for the mission, maybe for defence of coruscant.
the 'big picture' idea behind the rebels taking coruscant would draw on ideas similar to Hitler's final defeat, but if he had a nuclear weapon. He is going to lose, but how much damage and pain can he cause beforehand? The deathstar attempting to destroying coruscant would possibly be a similar scenario.
the current defeat of the empire in ROTJ is basically like hitler crashing a bomber during the battle of britain, and the war ending immediately afterwards.
this idea for an edit would encompass a six film saga, with the prequels edited extensively to support it. two big things we are shown in the prequels are DROID ARMIES and CORUSCANT. so these could be introduced in ROTJ to bring an overall closure. the introduction of new characters into possible prequel edits, could link in with reappearances in ROTJ. I'd like to think that if this was done effectively, you could watch the prequels, then ROtJ and it to sort of follow, as much as watching ANH, ESB and ROTJ and get the same sensation.
i quite like the idea that they were watching a military parade
they look really nice! especially like the escape pod shot.
If you watch Hayden's face, the movement is very similar to when he says farewell to Obiwan during the middle of ROTS.
So cheap he didn't even film original footage!
I guess one thing ROTJ lacks is the Deathstar killing Yavin IV scenario. There is a missing threat level to the battle, as there is no killer countdown.
WHAT IF
In the opening crawl, it is established that a collective of rebel groups have, in a decisive and surprise attack, captured Coruscant. (bonkers I know). The crawl could also suggest that the rebels have been going from strength to strength since ESB.
The Emperor however has escaped the rebels, and his location is unknown.
The Empire, now being under threat by the rebels, moves to take back Coruscant, and the rebel command move to defend it.
A twist later on in the story though, is that a second deathstar has been under construction, and the emperor plans to use it on coruscant itself.

I also suggested elsewhere that when Grievous takes Anakin's sword at the beginning during the escape they pull the nearest swords they can.
Obi-Wan could then retrieve Anakin's original sword when the General is killed.
That would work even better. I do wish anakin kept the same sabre throughout AOTC too.
if you think they were a giggle, this will kill you
most of you have probably played this to death.

I do wonder if Biggs and Luke racing T16s through beggars canyon could have had made a nice anecdotal parallel to the death star trench later on.
I agree though, this would have made a really nice link in the PT, as luke would have been describing something we would have seen three films earlier.
little shots like that would need to be filmed by whoever was doing the edit. but little focals like a hand passing the saber to other hands could easily be done with roughly similar outfits.
i guess when mace kicks palaptine, we would need an additional shot of his saber falling to the floor, then a similar shot of the saber being pulled to anakin using the force.
perhaps when he is arguing with mace, a shot of him scanning the room could be cut in, focusing closer and closer on the saber, tempting him. he does sort of look about the room a bit.

It ties up the PT plothole but personally I would prefer to solve that in the PT by having Anakin leave his saber with Padme for the child (after using it on Mace) and Vader using a red blade given to him by the Emperor.
ok, this sort of follows a point made in the ANH thread.
it was discussed ages ago, that anakin goes to visit padme after he finds out about palpatines real identity. if this was moved to after he tells mace, and used as an alternternative to the ruminations scene, could he leave his lightsaber here with her?
enstead of "obi wan has been here hasn't he", it could be "the chancellor has been here hasn't he". padme's expression of blissful ignorance when she says "he's been worried about you" could enforce anakin's burden.
the lightsaber he uses to kill mace could be palpatine's, which could have fallen on the floor during the fight (enstead of flying out the window). it may suggest then that he uses this lightsaber from now on.
wow, fits perfectly!
^ the man has a point.
i still don't think endor being a moon of coruscant would wash though, especially if ewoks were living there.
what if endor though wasn't home of the shield generator, but was some other objective point? like the control hub for the droid army?
the sense that anakin, like vader, is this genius manipulator is certainly lost in the PT. its sort of picked up more in the clone wars series.
your suggestion bingo is really dark, and i sort of like it more, that perhaps an inherently more sinister character, is later offered the choices of good and bad from an ambiguous beginning.
would this more manipulative anakin need to be featured at the beginning of the film? his plight and squalor could contrast against the privileged and civilised naboo, which is later brought to a similar state of despair?
- what if perhaps, anakin is a complete alternative to luke, in that he desperately wants to change things, and isn't afraid at all. an opening with anakin could be all about "i really want to change things" but its beyond his power. when he leaves with quigon his mother could tell him that now he has a chance to make a difference in the universe. ultimately he would.
ON TOPIC ATTEMPT :S
i was thinking of how the characters were originally intended to be introduced in ANH, then how they actually were, and how much stronger it was as a result. i love the way luke is called by beru, and we immediately relate to him as a result.
now this self critical approach to film editting can clearly be attributing to lucas' ex wife and editting phenomenon. are there choices that can be made in the PT with this mentality?
how could anakin be introduced perhaps in this manner? perhaps he might not be a slave, so his choice to leave may be a little less black and white and may have an element of sacrifice attached to it?
i put this consideration forward a while ago, but what if the naboo starcraft makes it to tatooine independant of the jedi, and the jedi are travelling to tatooine to collect anakin. they are weary of helping the naboo for whatever reason, but anakin forces them to get involved so qui gon can teach him.
if there is a way, perhaps quigon can speak of the prophecy to shmi, and maybe the chosen one could be like some reincarnated guy who quigon knew a long time ago. sidious is the old arch enemy of the chosen one perhaps.
^agreed, there may be something in that. especially if someone wanted to edit them as friends perhaps like some faneditors have.
