Info & Ideas: ESB and ROTJ Wishlist
Time

Maybe not tossing the sabre into the fire, that would suggest giving up. Burying a sabre in the dirt (yoda's green bladed crystal, and a pyre on tatooine), would suggest something completely different. Maybe finishing what Yoda should have done years before. The prequels should set up this great mistake the Jedi made. Rivalry and infighting (EP1), Rogue Dooku (EP2), creating Vader (EP3) etc.

Palpatine's speech could link brilliantly. Would be great if it that theme could be brought back into ROTJ more.

The Last of the Jedi thing might also tie in with Kurtz's original idea for Luke going it alone after 6. Maybe just leaving the galaxy behind. He suggested episodes 7-9 would concern Luke's relationship with his 'sister' (not Leia!).

What if by this point, years and years later, the force potent sister (or perhaps the sister's child) is running wild with powers she cannot control, maybe as a dangerous self educated Jedi to combat a new threat. Luke reluctantly comes out of retirement, much like Obi-wan, to train her and passes on his sabre to her to start the order afresh.... Dark Knight Skywalker Rises.

What Bingo said.

I'm not sure if this is possible, but it would be great to somehow have Luke doubt the future of the Jedi, now knowing the truth of his heritage. An ending where he decides to bury his lightsaber, and trust the galaxy to continue without the Jedi or Sith might be interesting.

For single trilogy/non-definitive, one off edit, flashbacks in ROTJ could be interesting to explore aswell. Generally ROTJ edits leave it quite lean at 1.30 or less, so maybe this could bulk it up.

The Hayden Christiansen-less alternate audio mixes: Episodes 2 and 3 (Released)
Time

there are two experiments i'd like to see outside of AOTC.

one would be redubbing sebastian shaw in ROTJ, just to see if it fits.
another would be a sample of vader lines, to be distorted to vaders tone to see how that also fits.

inside i'd like to see some more playful responses/banter. just little 'i knows' and chuckles between padme/anakin, and conversely sighs and groans for obi-wan.

some one-liners for the dooku duel would be good. maybe joking at his age.

For people who have seen Dark Knight Rises, has seeing the film inspired any radical ideas for an awesome unlikely ROTJ?

I floated the idea a while back about having it set much later:

The Empire now on the backfoot, and the alliance is a formidable opponent.

The kickstarter for the plot would be when the civilian population manage to miraculously overthrow the ruling powers on Coruscant temporarily, giving the rebels a reluctant foothold there. Literally every rebel personel is required to just hold off the constant imperial attacks.

They find the plans for the death star 2 on coruscant, as well as the location of the emperor who fled the capital in time. A small force is sent to attack it, etc. The additional twist would be that the Emperor intended for Coruscant to be overthrown so all the rebel eggs would be in one big basket for him to come and blow up (its a BIG trap!).

I was trying to figure out a subplot that would drag the droid army into it. There would need to be bunch load of extra footage and characters created (various rebel troops and generals etc).

I like the idea that Luke might have just gone missing straight away after ESB, and would have been on dagobah for years. If there was a beard filter on after effects I'd use that too.

A New Star Wars Prequel Trilogy Supertrailer!
Time

Yeah, there is a bit of a difference between sending a message, and giving the show away.

Such as an anakin themed trailer might suggest the potential for emotional turmoil, without revealing that he turns to the darkside etc. Its about introducing the threads of a story. A teaser trailer however is much more abstract, its either throwing people off the threads, or just introducing an abstract concept.

The Dark Knight Rises trailer for instance plays on defeat and.. well... rising. The original Dark Knight Rises teaser introduced the idea that it would reference Batman's past with the league of shadows. The earlier Dark Knight teasers were literally just 'look its the joker!'.

hey jedi mehdi!

a really good first trailer! i really enjoyed it.

visually it works, you have got good movement, but it does seem a bit 'general' at the moment as far as message is concerned. have you considered perhaps re-cutting it to focus on just one part of the story?

you might want to cut back on the intense fighting in the latter half, and reintroduce more character moments later on.

Some more thoughts for the rough plot.
It will require redubbing, some new shots and CG etc. Bery ambitious.

Alot is based on a reinterpretation of Count Dooku as new Vader:
He is a mysterious masked figure, with a distorted menacing voice. He is the leader of the Seperatist Faction. Noone knows his real identity, where he came from etc.?
A new actor with a matching costume could stand in with a mask, and a CG mask grafted onto Christopher Lee's face until the BIG REVEAL later on. The Mask allows for easy re-dubbing, so we can see alot more of this consistent villain now.

ROUGH PLOT SO FAR

Film opens with the conquest of Naboo and Amidala's escape. The entire affair is watched by our new Dooku from the bridge of his Flagship (much like Vader). He contacts a mandalorian via hologram, demanding her assassination.

Cut to a star destroyer passing over a blue planet, a Jedi fighter drops out the bottom. A very editted sequence in Kamino, acts as an introduction for Obi-wan. He encounters Jango Fett (with Zam replacing Boba in Slave 1) and pursues him under instruction from the council. The clones are still commissioned by a long dead Jedi master.

Amidala settles in Coruscant (no bombs). Somehow she needs to discuss the plight of naboo, without using footage from Ep1 to avoid all the makeup. This might be a good opportunity to introduce Palpatine.

Assassination attempt on Padme in her apartment not sure how, but somehow Obi-wan intervenes, diving through her window and the scene continues. Zam shoots out the ball droid thing and Obiwan falls, only to be saved by a new hero - ANAKIN SKYWALKER (super late introduction). Everything follows as normal.

-----

Not sure how to tackle it from here. The lift scene could be used for the Jedi Council meeting, maybe they revisit Padme afterwards. Really not sure how to explain anakin and padme going to naboo, although it could be a new planet. Also the visit to tatooine might also not be as appropriate now.

Ultimately it turns out that Count Dooku is actually *Sifo Dias*, he removes his mask to reveal this at the beginning of the duel, then gets out his lightsaber. It is just obi-wan fighting him, and all the 'Join me obi-wan' dialogue is used during the fight. Anakin jumps in from nowhere like before, maybe having flown in from a different transport.

Probably no 'Dark Side' in this episode, save that for the next one when we might not know if its really that bad or not.

Lend me your brains people!

Yeah I imagined a prequel Episode 1 and 2, then we have a gap for a new Episode 3 which would either be a really good future fanfilm that could link to an ambitious ROTJ edit, or an edit made from the live action tv-series should one ever be made (which i doubt).

Considering we waited for the prequels for nearly 20 years, content to have the three original films by themselves, I'm sure an overall better, yet incomplete saga wouldn't be SO bad!

I've just brought this up again at FE.org, and thought we could perhaps brainstorm here aswell. (Sort of follows on from the Episode Alpha, Beta, Gamma edits that were suggested a while back)

An Episode I which opens with Padme fleeing the invasion of theed, using footage from the end of TPM shooting droids etc. This then leads to coruscant and footage from AOTC. We follow her plight initially like we did with Leia in ANH, and are introduced to Anakin and Obiwan much later like we did with Luke.

Could a new story be formed around this? Does the Clone Wars start because of the invasion of Naboo? Maybe Padme now pushes FOR the creation of a clone army? Would there be a mystery?

A new sort of Desert-Naboo could be created by combining it with Geonosis, so the film ends with its liberation. Or perhaps a sequel edit would open with Naboo's liberation?

Episode II: Shroud of the Dark Side (the TM edit) (Released)
Time

although its not an ideal fix, would you consider using some of the battle sequences from the clone wars tv series? there are some episodes that feature battles in geonosis and the spaceships/y-wings might be a better solution than using footage from some other films (aside from the dune footage which was perfect!)

are you likely to revisit any of the ideas from your edit, now considering there has been a considerable amount of new ideas bashed about since its initial completion?

Info: Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. We have actor for Anakin, need new dialogue fast
Time

although this might not be that 'conservative' i'd love to see the ending completely changed so its not building up to ANH so much. SSWR did an edit ages ago of Obi-Wan just flying off into space with baby luke alone, which in tone reflected the beaten ending of ESB much more.

In an ideal trooperman edit i'd rather see ambitious and experimental than off the shelf quality edit.

The ANH:SE Redux Ideas thread (Radical Ideas Welcome).

I'd like to see an theoretical edit, having the duel start as the han/leia/luke flee to the falcon, and then continue during the tie fighter battle/death star escape. This was done in a trailer for MMO - Old Republic and is really dramatic.

Along Bingo's thoughts though, does luke ACTUALLY need to SEE obi-wan get killed though? If the fight begins far from the hangar and ends far from the hangar, could luke be seen to feel a tremour in the force?

If we ignore the deleted scene from the SE, Jabba is repeatedly only mentioned by name in the OT, only to be revealed in ROTJ. That clearly worked, and worked well. So the same logic could be applied to Yoda.

If we think about what Yoda's character represents aswell in ESB, his presence doesn't make any sense in the PT as he is.

I wonder how much could be added to the PT through additional characters, subplots and dubbing? Introducing a few tricks like Dooku wearing a mask until a big reveal in AOTC could allow more shots of him to be added. Also if we consider ROTJ to need some additional treatment, then maybe some added PT subplots could manifest in ROTJ 30 years later (with reoccurring sub-characters, locations etc)
