Great work!

Not particularly related, but I’ve always found the sound of the Porg in the film to be far inferior to the one used in the trailer:

https://youtu.be/Q0CbN8sfihY?t=91

It’s just something about the way the Porg sustains that scream that feels incredibly forced in the film, for whatever reason.

Thanks!

Oh yeah, the one in the trailer even fits the animation better weirdly. I get wanting to make it more of a “war(g) cry” but they definitely could have gone with another couple iterations for it.

If I might make a suggestion, could you add a wipe in the “Journey to Exegol” clip, more specifically between the lightspeed shot and Kylo overseeing Vader’s mask? I feel as though a simple cut seems a bit jarring. :v

Thanks for this! I did play around with a lot of different kinds and speeds of wipes on this cut, but ultimately stuck with this. I think what I might try and do is extend the hyperspace shot out but just a few frames. The issue with a wipe is that it implies the passage of time, whereas I want this whole sequence (the Resistance leaving Crait/Kylo being led to Exegol) to be relatively contemporaneous in the context of the film.

I’ve been casually looking at your preview videos.
An observation about the Holdo’s sacrifice clip - Hux makes the trip from the bridge to Snoke’s throne room very quickly, especially on a ship that has just been sliced and diced by a Mon Calimari Ginsu Cruiser.
I know you’re trying to tighten up three movies into one edit but that watches like a speed bump to me (I feel the same way about C3P0 in TESB, in one shot he’s in the command center on Hoth and then literally in the next scene he’s in the hangar telling R2 to be careful).

I’ve never noticed that in ESB! I imagine it was due to those wampa scenes being criminally cut from the film…

I get what you’re saying, though. In the theatrical he also gets from the docking bay up to the bridge fairly quickly, too. I feel like it’s ambiguous enough as to how much time has passed since the shipwreck when we cut back to the bridge, as Rey managed to wake up, leave, steal a ship and get away already. Appreciate the feedback!

I’d kill to have Palpatine stuff be added (specifically that part you added in bbghost) into Hal9000’s cut of TFA

I have thought about getting around to doing my own standalone cuts of the sequels separate from my 3-in-1 edit, and things like that would definitely be added. I’ll let you know if that comes about!

Has anyone tried putting Palpatine chuckling or something during the looming shot of Vader’s helmet in TFA?

(If you come across this, Sparky, I don’t think this, specifically, would ruin TLJ’s hope message, as it could be interpreted as Palps’ spirit inhabiting Vader’s helmet until TRoS when Palps talks about the voices.)

Have mentioned it before in other threads but my sequel edit does some things to obliquely link Palpatine, Kylo and Vader’s helmet from the outset:
Kylo’s vision in TFA: https://vimeo.com/549080534
Palpatine summoning Kylo to Exegol: https://vimeo.com/554625583

I really never had a problem with Hux being made a farce of, or “they fly now” (yes it’s corny, but that’s Star Wars, right?)

It wasn’t until I found this forum that I realized so many people HATE that “They fly now” joke. I will never understand it. lol.

I think the fact that it was in the first clip they released from the film didn’t help! People were kinda set to hate this thing regardless, and the joke became a bit of a pre-emptive flashpoint for that.

Because the Empire, Republic, and CIS have all had jettroopers and it would be weird if the FO didn’t.

Well, the audience doesn’t necessarily know that as it was never depicted in the mainline Skywalker films, and certainly not the sequel trilogy. Also, none of the characters save Chewie and the droids lived through any of those wars, and C-3PO had his memory wiped after ROtS.

I do get where you’re coming from! But I think sometimes the moment has to come first, even at the expense of those of us who’ve spent their lives reading Wookiepedia.

Hello again,

as always: MANY THANKS FOR YOUR AWESOME WORK!
I thought about your craft after watching the Snyder Cut of Justice League a while ago.
Loved that one too.

I just finished v3.0 I got around the 15/05/2021.
You put the star wars goof back in it I see 😄

I really enjoyed it.
Version 2.0 is still the purest Rey focused journey I would show my brother who gave up after watching Episode VII in French at the theatre.
If you do a sub’ file, I’d try to cut it and translate it into French so it fits the 2.0!
AND force him to watch it… when the variants situation settles and we can simply cross borders again.

Keep on playing with your cut. I read somewhere that an art piece is finished only when you are fed up with it.
There are at least three layers of paint on the Mona Lisa, Leonardo had fun with it all his life.
That’s why it’s so looked after.

Please don’t be fed up until you have a subtitle file 😛

Thank you thank you!

I’m glad you enjoyed it, Jul! Can’t promise subtitles will be coming any time soon, but I definitely won’t give up on this project until those are done.

Here’s a mockup.

Goddamit, i wish we could have gotten his audio in good quality. There has to be someone we could contact who could supply us with the clean audio.

Not too long ago someone here got us tons of c3p0 audio.

That was done by ripping it out of the local files of VR game. The Fortnite thing was a limited time only event inside the game so the files were likely just streamed, and only the event recorded. Sad!

The Rise of Skywalker: color grade changes on Disney+
Time

thenerfherder38 said:

They haven’t updated it - I made a Twitter post explaining this (linked below), but essentially:

The ‘too blue’ screencaps are from a 4K HDR blu-ray: HDR colour data doesn’t translate to non HDR screens, which gives them sickly or faded colours. The source of these screencaps are the first Google result for ‘The Rise of Skywalker screencaps’, so people who (for whatever reason), haven’t watched the movie since cinemas (and have seen these images widely-circulated) will give it another go on Disney+ and assume it’s been re-graded.

Comparison pics are in the tweet: https://twitter.com/ChrisRogers1138/status/1397251817638187010

Thanks for the clarification!
